In cases where a person suddenly faints, loses consciousness, and has phlegm rattling in the throat, people generally attribute it to Wind (Zheng Feng, stroke). However, who would suspect that this is actually due to Qi Deficiency? If treated as Wind, death is inevitable. This occurs because of improper sexual conduct in daily life, leading to Essence depletion and subsequent Qi deficiency. Coupled with irregular living habits, symptoms resembling Wind appear, but it is not truly Wind. The prescription is as follows:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (1 liang), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) (1 liang), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (1 liang), Fu Ling (Poria) (5 qian), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (3 qian), Bai Jie Zi (Sinapis Semen) (3 qian), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) (2 qian), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (1 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
This formula tonifies Qi without treating Wind, resolves Phlegm without consuming Qi. After one dose, the spirit settles; after two doses, the Phlegm clears; after three doses, recovery is complete.
This syndrome may involve Kidney Water Deficiency failing to ascend and communicate with the Heart, or Liver Qi Dryness failing to generate Heart Fire. All these are Yin Deficiencies capable of causing sudden fainting. The prescription is named Zai Su Dan:
Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) (2 liang), Shan Yu Rou (Corni Fructus) (1 liang), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (1 liang), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1 liang), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus) (1 liang), Fu Ling (Poria) (1 liang), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) (1 qian), Bai Jie Zi (Sinapis Semen) (3 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
This formula tonifies Kidney Water, nourishes Lung Qi, calms the Spirit, opens orifices, clears Heat, and disperses Phlegm, demonstrating miraculous efficacy. In an alternative version, use 5 qian of Fu Ling; ten doses will effect a cure.
There are cases where Heart Fire is deficient and fails to descend to communicate with the Kidney, resulting in sudden fainting; this is Yang Deficiency. The prescription is Quan Sheng Tang:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (1 liang), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (1 liang), Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood) (5 qian), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian), Sheng Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (3 qian), Sheng Zao Ren (Ziziphi Spinosomi Semen) (1 liang), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (3 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Upon swallowing the medicine, the Phlegm subsides and Qi flows smoothly. Continuous administration for several doses restores normal health.
There are also cases caused by Stomach Heat preventing the Heart Fire from settling, leading to sudden fainting; this is also considered Yang Deficiency (in the context of the text's specific pathology). The prescription is as follows:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (1 liang), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (1 liang), Sheng Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (5 qian), Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthis Radix) (5 qian), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (3 qian), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) (1 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
After one dose, the Heart settles; after two doses, the Heat clears; after three doses, recovery is complete.
