For treating minor sores and toxins, there is a prescription as effective as divine:
*Jinyinhua* (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 1 liang) *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang) *Pugongying* (Taraxaci Herba, 1 liang) *Jingjie* (Schizonepetae Spica, 1 qian) *Lianqiao* (Forsythiae Fructus, 1 qian) *Gancao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
After one dose, symptoms alleviate; after two doses, they disappear; after three doses, recovery is achieved. This is an excellent method of treatment that people should know and not neglect. For sores on the head, it is absolutely forbidden to use ascending drugs (medicines with upward-dispersing properties); this must be strictly observed! Diseases in the lower body are suitable for ascending treatments, whereas diseases in the upper body are not suitable for ascending treatments. Sores on the head are best treated with fire-descending medicines (herbs that clear and drain heat/fire).
For treating sores on the head and face, use the following prescription:
*Jinyinhua* (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 2 liang) *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang) *Chuanxiong* (Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 5 qian) *Jiegeng* (Platycodonis Radix, 3 qian) *Pugongying* (Taraxaci Herba, 3 qian) *Huangqin* (Scutellariae Radix, 1 qian) *Gancao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 5 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Complete resolution occurs within two doses. When treating sores on the head and face, ascending-promoting drugs must not be used; fire-descending medicines are most appropriate. Remember this well.
Whenever toxic fluids flow into any area, large blistering sores arise, known as Huangshui Chuang (Yellow Water Sore, a skin ulceration with yellow exudate). These blisters rupture upon slight touch because heat-toxin is constrained in the skin and hair follicles. It should be washed with a decoction to achieve cure. Use the following prescription:
*Xionghuang* (Realgar, 5 qian) *Fangfeng* (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 5 qian).
Boil these two ingredients in ten bowls of water for several boils, strain out the dregs, and use the liquid to wash the sores until healed.
For treating carbuncles and ulcers on the body, hands, and feet, use the following prescription:
*Jinyinhua* (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 3 qian) *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang) *Pugongying* (Taraxaci Herba, 3 qian) *Tianhuafen* (Trichosanthis Radix, 5 qian) *Gancao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian) *Furongye* (Hibisci Mutabilis Folium, 7 leaves; if leaves are unavailable, use 3 qian of root).
Decoct in water and take orally.
For treating damp sores on the legs, use the following prescription:
Yutiao (Ulmus twig, 1 liang) Chuntiao (Toona sinensis twig, 1 liang) Sangtiao (Morus alba twig, 1 liang) Huaitiao (Styphnolobii japonici twig, 1 liang) *Jingjie* (Schizonepetae Spica, 1 liang) *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang) Conghu (Green onion bulb, one handful) Suanban (Garlic clove, several cloves) Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyllum bungeanum fruit, one pinch).
Decoct in ten bowls of water until reduced to five bowls, and use the liquid to wash the affected area. After washing, apply Yinxing San (Ginkgo Powder):
Yinzhu (Vermilion, 1 liang) Xingren (Prunus armeniaca seed, 5 qian) Jingfen (Rice starch, 5 qian).
Grind into a fine powder.
