Dysentery with blood and abdominal pain is caused by Fire pathogen. The prescription is as follows:
Dangguiwei (Radix Angelicae Sinensis Cauda, 1 liang) Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1 liang) Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, 3 qian) Zhike (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, 2 qian) Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, 2 qian) Luobozizi (Semen Raphani, 2 qian) Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 qian)
Decoct in water and take orally.
Dysentery with blood but without abdominal pain is caused by Cold pathogen. The prescription is as follows:
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 3 qian) Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 3 qian) Binglang (Arecae Semen, 1 qian) Zhike (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, 1 qian) Luobozizi (Semen Raphani, 1 qian) Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 qian)
Decoct in water and take orally.
The former prescription treats robust individuals where the Fire pathogen is accompanied by Dampness. This prescription treats cold dysentery with no abdominal pain. [Although bloody dysentery is divided into painful and non-painful types, essentially both involve the Fire pathogen accompanied by Dampness. Theoretically, both prescriptions can be used interchangeably; distinguishing between pain and no pain is for greater caution. Both prescriptions are highly effective with minor modifications, so there is no need to hesitate excessively; one is used for pain, and the other for no pain. When the Fire pathogen stagnates Dampness at the junction of the intestines and spleen, preventing smooth downward movement, tenesmus (li ji hou zhong) invariably occurs. The brilliance lies in using Danggui and Baishao to promote free flow, allowing the Fire pathogen to descend directly, which not only soothes the Liver Wood but also nourishes the Spleen Earth.]
This condition arises from contracting Damp-Heat. It presents with red and white discharge mixed together, resembling pus and blood, and is extremely critical and urgent. Using cooling herbs to stop bleeding or hot herbs to attack pathogens are both not good treatment methods. The prescription is as follows:
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 2 liang) Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 2 liang) Binglang (Arecae Semen, 2 qian) Zhike (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, 2 qian) Guangmuxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, 1 qian) Luobozizi (Semen Raphani, 1 qian) Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 2 qian) Huashi (Talcum, 3 qian)
Decoct in water and take orally.
One or two doses will achieve the result. The brilliance of this prescription lies in using a large amount (2 liang each) of Danggui and Baishao, ensuring sufficient Liver Blood so that it does not overact upon the Spleen Earth, thereby naturally restoring the conduction function of the Large Intestine. Added to this are Zhike, Binglang, and Luobozizi, all substances that expel filth and accumulate debris, particularly capable of employing attacking methods within tonification. Meanwhile, Huashi, Gancao, and Muxiang harmonize the pace, neither too fast nor too slow, ensuring all stagnation is expelled. For milder cases of dysentery, simply halving the dosage yields excellent results. This prescription is highly effective regardless of whether the dysentery is red or white, painful or painless.
Another prescription:
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 liang) Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, 7 qian) Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Lanceae, 1 qian) Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, 1 qian) Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 1 qian) Dafupi (Pericarpium Arecae, 1 qian)
Use two bowls of water, decoct until one bowl remains, and take in one dose.
