In all cases where cold food fails to digest or retained food does not disperse, the presentation resembles Taiyang disease (disease of the Taiyang channel). Symptoms include fever, aversion to cold with shivering, headache, and stiffness in the waist and spine. Shuangjie San (Double Release Decoction) should not be used; instead, Daoyin Wan (Guiding Drink Pill) or Muxiang Binglang Wan (Aucklandia and Areca Nut Pill), 50–60 pills per dose, should be administered. The dosage should be adjusted according to the patient’s deficiency or excess condition. After five to seven bowel movements, when the ingested cold substances and old wine are thoroughly expelled, the headache and other symptoms will resolve spontaneously. Subsequently, Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) should be taken, decocted with fresh ginger and jujube, using "long-flowing water" (water from a moving stream) to extract approximately five to six qian (a traditional unit of weight). Jiuzheng Wan (Alcohol Syndrome Pill) and Jinshi Wan (Food Advancement Pill) must be avoided, as these contain Radix Euphorbiae Lathyris (Badou, Croton Seed), which is highly toxic.
For individuals accustomed to rich and refined diets, living idle and comfortable lives, and overindulging in nourishment, injuries caused by alcohol and food lead to retained fluid in the Zhongwan (CV12, Middle Jiao region), manifesting as nausea, epigastric distension and fullness, and acid regurgitation. Muxiang Daoyin Wan (Aucklandia Guiding Drink Pill) can be used for treatment. Conversely, for rural laborers who eat coarse food, wear thin clothing, and engage in strenuous physical work, if injured by alcohol and food, presenting with abdominal fullness and oppression, acid regurgitation, and frequent spitting of sour fluid, Jinshi Wan (Food Advancement Pill) may be used due to its stronger purgative potency. In severe cases, purgation may be performed three to five times per month.
In all cases of severe internal accumulation, or when phlegm-fluid retention prevents eating, causing dizziness and vertigo of the head and eyes, and inability to promote clear yang and drain turbidity, Chatiao San (Tea-Regulating Powder) should be used to induce vomiting. This should be followed by Qixuan Wan (Seven-Promoting Pill) and Muxiang Binglang Wan (Aucklandia and Areca Nut Pill).
If a person coughs once, or makes sounds of weeping, laughing, crying, or wailing, and suddenly experiences sharp stabbing pain in the lower back after lifting heavy objects, rendering them unable to turn their body or exhale properly, Buwo San (Sleepless Powder) should be administered via nasal insufflation. Sweating will occur, and the pain will cease.
For all injuries caused by blades or weapons, use one jin (approx. 500g) of weathered calcined iron ore (Fenghua Duanshi) and four liang (approx. 125g) of Dragon Bone (Longgu). Grind both ingredients into fine powder. Four days before the Duanwu Festival (Dragon Boat Festival), collect Cirsium japonicum (Ciji, Thistle); on the early morning of the Duanwu Festival, pound them together, mix into dough balls, pierce a hole through the center, and hang them in a shady place to dry naturally. Once dry, grind and sieve into powder, and apply directly to the wound. This preparation is also effective for internal and external sores as well as various miscellaneous ulcers.
For dog bites or snakebites, do not immediately apply plaster or skin-nourishing powders. As stated in the Huangdi Neijing (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon): "Treat the interior first, then the exterior." Initially, use Daoshui Wan (Water-Guiding Pill) or Yugong San (Yu Gong Powder) to purge accumulated fear/stress and toxic vapors. If ten or more bowel movements occur, pain and swelling will immediately subside. Only then should plasters or skin-nourishing powders be applied to achieve healing.
For all injuries from insects or beasts, back sores with swelling and toxicity, or traumatic injuries from beating that flare up or penetrate inward, administer Muxiang Binglang Wan (Aucklandia and Areca Nut Pill), 70–80 pills, or even up to 100+ pills, taken with ginger decoction to induce five to seven bowel movements. Adjust the dosage based on the patient’s deficiency or excess. This aligns with the Classic saying: "Treat the interior first, then the exterior."
For falls from horses or wells resulting in blunt trauma, if sudden mental disturbances arise, this is due to phlegm-saliva dispersing upward. The Huangdi Neijing states: "Disease arises externally due to qi movement." Sancheng San (Three-Sage Powder) should be taken on an empty stomach. If the patient is weak and emaciated, Shengdu San (Sole Sage Powder) should be used to induce vomiting. Afterwards, administer herbs to calm the spirit and secure the soul, such as Dingzhi Wan (Stabilize Will Pill), containing Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang, Bezoar), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, Ginseng), and Cinnabaris (Zhusha, Cinnabar).
