In cases where women suffer from head wind (Toufeng) and vertigo, experiencing dizziness, dry eyes, numbness in the hands, hair loss, forgetfulness, and mood swings when riding in carriages or boats, these symptoms are all caused by phlegm-fluids retained in the chest. One may use Gudi San (Melon Peduncle Powder) to induce vomiting; subsequently, administer Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction) and Darenshen Banxia Wan (Ginseng and Pinellia Pill) decocted in long-flowing water.
For women suffering from pain in the waist and hips, numbness in both legs, aversion to cold and preference for warmth, as stated in the *Neijing* (Classic of Internal Medicine): "Wind, cold, and dampness combine to form Bi syndrome" (Obstruction syndrome). Initially, one may take Shichu Dan (Dampness-Expelling Pill), 70–80 pills, adjusting the dose according to deficiency or excess. Next, administer Yugong San (Yu Gong Powder) to purge, aiming for more than ten bowel movements; the expulsion of clear, cold accumulated fluid and yellowish frothy saliva indicates efficacy. Afterwards, decoct fresh ginger and jujube in long-flowing water and take it together with Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction); this disperses wind-dampness and naturally harmonizes Qi and Blood.
Regarding breast abscesses causing pain in women, the pathology also resides in the Heart, commonly known as "Chui Nai" (Blowing Milk). "Chui" refers to wind pathogen. Wind-heat accumulates between the breasts, causing blood vessels to coagulate and stagnate; over time, if not resolved, it ulcerates and rots into pus. It is appropriate to use Yiyuan San (Yi Yuan Powder), taken with ginger juice tea, served cold; or sip newly drawn cool water frequently without stopping, three to fifty times day and night, until relief occurs; alternatively, decoct Jiedu Tang (Detoxification Decoction) and take it in one dose.
When women experience menstrual stagnation, with menses absent for several months and gradual emaciation, the *Neijing* states: "Heat in the Small Intestine is full and transfers heat to the Large Intestine, resulting in Fu Xia" (Hidden Mass) becoming stagnant. "Chen" (Sinking/Stagnant) refers to the stagnation of menstruation, hence termed "Fu Xia". Urgent treatment with Tao Ren Cheng Qi Tang (Peach Kernel Decoction to Order the Qi) added with Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis) is required, prepared in a large dose; recovery will occur within no more than three doses. Subsequently, tonify with Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction), and it is advisable to also take Bing Lang Wan (Areca Seed Pill) from the Xuanming formulas.
For women suffering from metrorrhagia (blood flooding), whether aged forty or above, or caused by excessive grief, the *Neijing* states: "Excessive grief causes the Heart Tie (Heart Tendon/Connection) to contract; contraction of the Heart Tie causes the Lung to rise, blocking the Upper Jiao, leading to heat accumulation in the middle." Thus, the classics say: "Downward flow of blood involving the Heart Tie constitutes 'Blood Mountain' (severe hemorrhage)." If chronic and unhealed, symptoms include sallow complexion, hot skin, and emaciation; one must strictly avoid heat-inducing treatments. Since blood scatters when exposed to heat, such methods are contraindicated. Treatment should employ Dang Gui San (Angelica Powder) and similar remedies.
For women over fifty experiencing sudden heavy vaginal bleeding, which exceeds the normal cessation of menstruation at the age of forty-nine (seven sevens), this aligns with the *Neijing*'s principle that "Fire governs sudden speed," often triggered by sudden joy, anger, worry, or fear. Do not treat this as a cold condition. Using harsh heat-inducing drugs will certainly lead to death. Instead, clear the upper burner with Huanglian Jiedu Tang (Coptis Detoxification Decoction), use Lotus Shell and Charred Palm Fiber Ash to drain dampness from the lower burner, and then administer Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) and Yanhusuo San (Corydalis Powder), which are cooling-blood and meridian-harmonizing agents.
When women, including unmarried maidens, do not have their menses, the *Neijing* states: "This is due to the closure of the Bao Mai" (Uterine Vessels). The Bao Mai belongs to the Heart and connects to the Uterus. Currently, Qi ascends to connect with the Lung, but Heart Qi fails to descend, thus preventing menstruation. One may use Chatiao San (Tea-Regulating Powder) to induce vomiting; subsequently, use Yuzhu San (Jade Candle Powder), Xiong Tang (Ligusticum Decoction), Sanhe Tang (Three-Harmony Decoction), or Guiling Baizhu San (Cinnamon, Poria, and Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder) to reduce Heart Fire, nourish Kidney Water, stimulate appetite, differentiate Yin and Yang, and promote urination. Strictly avoid harsh, toxic heat-inducing drugs. Ingestion may transform the condition into Fei Wei (Lung Atrophy), bone-steaming tidal fever, cough with purulent sputum, hematemesis, wheezing and distension, difficult urination, and continuous night sweats, progressing to emaciation and a large pulse; even with a skilled physician, it becomes incurable. Alas! Is human death truly determined by fate?
For pregnant women suffering from malaria, one may decoct Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction), Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction), or Chaihu Yinzi (Bupleurum Drink). If the stool is hard and constipated, Da Chaihu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction) may be used to purge. Mild purgation is sufficient; severe vomiting or purging must be avoided to prevent harming the pregnancy. The classics state: "Summer injury by summer-heat leads to autumn malaria."
For pregnant women suffering from Shanghan (Cold Damage), Shi Qi (Seasonal Epidemic), or Wen Yi (Warm Epidemic), presenting with headache and fever, one may use Shengma San (Cimicifuga Powder), one liang, decocted in half a bowl of water in a large dose, strained, and divided into two doses. The first dose induces vomiting; the second does not. Subsequently, decoct Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction) with fresh ginger and jujube in long-flowing water, take it hot; once sweating is complete, the pain stops immediately.
For pregnant women with difficulty in urination and defecation, Bazheng San (Eight-Righteousness Powder) may be used in a large dose, omitting Huashi (Talcum), and adding Kuicai Zi (Malva Seeds). The classics state: "Bladder dysfunction is called Long" (Urinary retention). Long refers to the obstruction and non-passage of urine. Adding Muxiang (Aucklandia Root) to Bazheng San accelerates efficacy. The classics state: "The Bladder excretes through Qi transformation." Subsequently, take Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction); three to five doses will result in cure.
For women whose bodies feel heavy and who become aphasic (mute) in the ninth month of pregnancy, this is due to the discontinuity of the collateral vessels of the Uterus, hence the inability to speak. The classics state: "No treatment is needed." However, rather than ignoring this, one may decoct Yuzhu San (Jade Candle Powder), two liang, in half a bowl of water until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, add honey, warm, and sip occasionally to direct Fire downward, clearing Lung Metal, thereby restoring voice, as the Lung governs sound.
For women suffering from dystocia (difficult labor), caused by dryness, astringency, and tightness preventing the opening of the birth canal, it is advisable to start in the month of expected delivery. From the beginning of that month, take Yiyuan San (Yi Yuan Powder) mixed with long-flowing water, three times daily, ensuring easy delivery. Postpartum, various deficiencies, heat, and Qi-Blood disharmony will be prevented. If taken before the due month, it is contraindicated because Huashi (Talcum) has a slippery effect on the fetus.
After major postpartum hemorrhage, if umbilical, abdominal, or lower back pain occurs, it is caused by retained evil blood and foul matter. Physicians mistakenly treating this as deficiency-cold using drying-hot drugs have been in error for a long time. The *Nanjing* (Classic of Difficult Issues) states: "All pain is Excess. Excess implies Heat." One may use Daoshui Wan (Water-Guiding Pill) or Yugong San (Yu Gong Powder) to purge three to five times; then treat with Yuzhu San (Jade Candle Powder) and other herbs that unblock meridians, descend fire, and benefit water. One must not directly use Heishen San (Black Divine Powder) or other drying-hot drugs; it should be treated similarly to miscarriage management.
For postpartum women suffering from Xin Feng (Heart Wind), do not simply treat it as generic Wind disease. Use Tiaowei Chengqi Tang (Regulate the Stomach Decoction to Order the Qi), two liang, added with Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis), half a liang, finely chopped, decocted in three to four bowls of water, strained, and divided into two doses. Profuse purgation of three to five stools will cure it. If unresolved, use Sansheng San (Three-Saints Powder) to induce vomiting. This is because manic wind belongs to Yang.
For postpartum women, one or two days after delivery, experiencing gradual fever and dry mouth, one may mix Yuzhu San (Jade Candle Powder) with newly drawn cool water, or Ganlu San (Sweet Dew Powder) mixed with water, which is also excellent. Do not treat this as deficiency-cold.
