Regarding the three types of Xiao (Wasting and Thirsting), the *Neijing* states: The three Xiao refer to Lung Xiao, Diaphragm Xiao, and Wind Xiao. Boil silk cocoons in water to make a decoction (Siaosi Zhu Jian Tang), clarify it, and take it in one dose for recovery; alternatively, taking fresh lotus root juice in one dose also leads to recovery.
The term "Lei Tou Feng" (Thunder Head Wind) is a vulgar misnomer. This disease arises from cold phlegm in the chest, often caused by frequent head washing. It can be treated with Cha Tiao San (Tea-Powdered Regulation Powder) to induce vomiting; after expelling two or three sheng of cold phlegm, administer Shen Xiong Wan (Divine Angelica Pill) to purge the bowels three to five times; subsequently,服用 Yu Feng Bing Zi (Wind-Healing Biscuits) will lead to recovery. "Lei Tou" refers to red, swollen nodules on the head, resembling slices of ginger or sour jujubes. These can be pricked with needles to release blood, thereby permanently eliminating the root cause.
Persistent headache is due to pathogenic invasion of the Three Yang meridians. Each of the Three Yang meridians governs specific areas: Pain in the head and neck belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian; pain at the Cuanzhu acupoint, commonly called supraorbital ridge pain, falls under this category; pain above the temporal angle, commonly known as migraines, belongs to the Shaoyang Meridian. If the pain persists for a long time, it may lead to blindness. Since the Three Yang meridians are affected, it is invariably caused by old phlegm accumulation in the chest and diaphragm. First, use Cha Tiao San to induce vomiting; then treat with Xiang Ru Yin (Elsholtzia Decoction) and Bai Hu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) for recovery. However, if the headache persists, a decoction of green onion white roots and fermented soybeans (Dou Chi) can be used to induce vomiting; after vomiting, herbs such as Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) and Bohe (Mint Leaf) can be taken to clear the upper body with pungent-cool properties, along with formulas like Sou Feng Wan (Wind-Searching Pill) or Xiang Xiong San (Angelica and Ligusticum Powder). Zhang Zhongjing stated: Green onion roots and Dou Chi can also be used to treat headaches caused by Cold Damage (Shanghan). Wang Shuhe said: A rapid pulse at the Cun position accompanied by headache is indicative of this condition.
Sudden redness of both eyes with unceasing swelling and pain can be treated by inducing vomiting with a salt decoction made from running water; subsequently, administer Shen Xiong Wan or Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction). The *Neijing* states: Sudden diseases all belong to Fire. It further states: In treating diseases, there is urgency and slackness; in urgent cases, treat the branch (symptoms); in slack cases, treat the root (cause). Here, the "branch" refers to redness and swelling; the "root" refers to heat and fire. Inserting a grass stem into the nostrils to induce epistaxis is most effective.
For sudden severe redness, swelling, and pain of the eyes that prevents opening them, apply Qing Jin San (Metal-Clearing Powder) intranasally to induce sneezing and bleeding; inducing nasal bleeding is even more rapid in effect.
