Commentary states: If one initially feels numbness and insensitivity in the muscles, which over time develops into other syndromes, the disease is named Bi Syndrome (Obstruction Syndrome). This arises from the invasion of Wind, Cold, and Dampness pathogens into the meridians, lodging in the blood vessels, and struggling with Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, thereby causing skin Bi Syndrome characterized by numbness and insensitivity. If Heat is present, there is vexing pain in the muscles and bone joints; if Cold is present, there is a sensation of coldness. Acquired in Spring, the pathology resides in the Tendons (Jin); acquired in Summer, in the Vessels (Mai); acquired in Autumn, in the Skin (Pi); acquired in Winter, in the Bones (Gu); and present throughout the four seasons, it resides in the Muscles (Rou). Furthermore, if prolonged without resolution, each transmits to its corresponding Zang organ: Untreated Tendon Bi enters the Liver, causing fright during sleep, increased appetite, frequent urination, and abdominal distension resembling pregnancy. Untreated Vessel Bi enters the Heart, causing obstruction of the vessels, vexation and fullness, palpitations in the epigastrium like drumbeats, and sudden upward rushing of Qi. Untreated Muscle Bi enters the Spleen, manifesting as flaccidity and lethargy of the four limbs, coughing, vomiting of saliva, and severe upper jiao obstruction. Untreated Skin Bi enters the Lung, manifesting as vexation, fullness, wheezing, and vomiting. Untreated Bone Bi enters the Kidney, manifesting as propensity for abdominal distension, inability to stand on heels (sitting on buttocks), and spinal curvature replacing the head (hunchback). Although these symptoms are numerous, they must all begin with muscle numbness and insensitivity. In the initial stage, treatment should employ Zengsun Xiao Xuming Tang (Modified Minor Continuation Life Decoction); if symptoms vary slightly, adjustments should be made according to this method. For chronic diseases penetrating deeply, Lu Gong Jiu (Lord Lu's Wine) is used.

Chop the above herbs finely, soak in 4 dou of wine for ten days. Take 1 ge per dose, ensuring the warming effect of the wine persists continuously.
If the stomach is dry with thirst, accompanied by muscle numbness and insensitivity, this is due to residing in low-lying damp places or working with water, causing muscles to be soaked by dampness, leading to Bi Syndrome known as Rou Wei (Flesh Flaccidity). It is treated with Yingsu Tang (Poppy Decoction).
Yingsu Tang
Yingsu (Papaveris Somniferi Fructus, quantity unspecified)
Grind the above herb into fine powder, boil thin porridge, mix with honey, and drink. It greatly resolves toxicity from mineral and metallic drugs.
If one side of the foot and knee is weak, gradually becoming emaciated, with lusterless muscles, pulling upwards to the hypochondrium and downwards connecting to tight tendons, unable to walk, this is caused by excessive loss of body fluids after a major illness, resulting in blood deficiency failing to nourish, and Qi weakness failing to transport. With Liver Qi deficiency and lack of blood to nourish the tendons, the tendons become dry, tight, painful, and unable to lift. It is treated with Huoxue Dan (Blood Activating Pill).

If one frequently feels leg weakness, quickly moxa the Fengshi (GB31) and Zusanli (ST36) acupoints, 100-200 moxa cones each. If feeling heat and stifling, do not moxa; strictly avoid alcohol, wheat products, and sexual activity.
Location of Fengshi (GB31): Have the patient stand upright with arms hanging down, palms touching the thighs; the tip of the middle finger marks the point. Location of Zusanli (ST36): Three cun below the knee cap on the lateral aspect, where pressing creates a depression. Another method: press deeply with the finger until the foot Yangming pulse (Duyang pulse) is no longer palpable.
