Using Huang Dan (Lead Monoxide, 黄丹), first stir-fry it until purple, pour it into a vat, soak it with one bucket of boiling water, then fill the vat with cool water. Stir frequently by scooping water with hands, and let it steep overnight. Drain the water, then fry again as before. Repeat this process twice, then grind into powder for use.
According to Tao Jie'an: I once used this ointment to treat sores and internal abscesses with remarkable efficacy. A woman once suffered from amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) with abdominal masses and pain. Applying the plaster to the lower abdomen stopped the pain after menstruation resumed. Subsequent external application and internal administration based on symptoms were invariably effective. It was especially effective for ulcerated ymei chuang (syphilitic chancre, 杨梅疮毒). This further demonstrates the wonder of this prescription.
Generally, when the human body is affected by heat-toxin, presenting with blurred vision, dizziness, dry mouth, bitter taste in the tongue, palpitations, back heat, numbness of the four limbs, and a sensation of red halo on the back, immediately take one large spoonful of Huai Zi (Sophora Japonica Fruit, 槐子), clean it thoroughly, stir-fry it in an iron ladle until brownish, decoct it in one bowl of good wine until boiling, filter out the dregs, and drink it while hot. Upon finishing the wine, profuse sweating occurs, leading to recovery. If the pathogen has not receded, decoct and take again according to the previous method. Even if suppuration (pus formation, 成脓) has occurred, there is no case that does not heal. This is a formula of Zhi Qi, verified repeatedly over thirty years.
To treat all types of yong ju (carbuncles and sores, 痈疽), fa bei (back carbuncle, 发背), ding chuang (furuncle, 疔疮), ru yong (mastitis, 乳痈), bian du (venereal bubo, 便毒), hou bi (throat obstruction, 喉闭), and ru e (tonsillitis, 乳蛾), regardless of whether they are ulcerated or not, crush Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 金银花) including stems and leaves, extract the juice (half zhong), mix with half zhong of hot wine, and take hot. For severe cases, three to five doses suffice for recovery. If fresh herbs are unavailable, use one to two liang of dried herbs, add one zhong of water, decoct to half zhong, and mix with half zhong of hot wine to take. These two prescriptions use easily accessible materials but yield great results; they are particularly suitable for remote mountain villages without medical access, to be kept in reserve for emergencies.
Repeatedly used with verified efficacy. Generally, when a person suffers from yong ju or fa bei, whether condensed or not, if the area is red, hot, swollen, and painful, first cover it with wet paper. The place where the paper dries first indicates the head of the ju (abscess point). Take a large clove of garlic, slice it to a thickness of approximately three qian, apply it thickly over the head, and moxibustion with large moxa cones for three zhuang. Replace with a new garlic slice. If painful, moxibustion continues until pain ceases; if painless, continue until pain is felt, then stop. The most crucial aspect is early detection and early moxibustion. In the first or second day of onset, ten applications result in ten cures; on the third or fourth day, seven out of ten cure; on the fifth or sixth day, four out of ten cure. After seven days, moxibustion is contraindicated. If several heads emerge together, grind garlic into a paste, form into cakes, place on the wound head, and perform clustered moxibustion, which can also stabilize the condition. If a yellow grain-sized nodule appears under the skin at the initial stage of a back lesion before swelling occurs, slice a single garlic clove and moxibusture as described above. The next day, remove the scab, and pus will naturally drain. The effect is extremely good, beyond description.
