In cases where women suffer from a deficiency of both Qi and Blood, pregnancy lacks adequate nourishment, resulting in weakness and fatigue in the four limbs, as well as poor appetite or reluctance to eat. Alternatively, they may have a history of habitual abortion (spontaneous abortion). This is because the fetus is nourished by Blood, while it is protected by Qi. To preserve the fetus and ensure a safe pregnancy, clearing heat is appropriate. Pregnancy is like a bell suspended from a beam; if the beam is soft, the bell will fall. Therefore, stabilizing the fetus must primarily focus on tonifying Qi and Blood and consolidating Middle Qi. Additionally, one should cultivate emotional stability and avoid violent anger to prevent the risk of miscarriage.
[Main Formula]
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (5 fen), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (7 fen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (7 fen), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (5 fen), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (6 fen), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) (1 qian), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (7 fen), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (5 fen, honey-fried), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini) (1 qian, fried with clam powder), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex) (6 fen, coarse skin and silk fibers removed, fried; specifically for relieving lower back and abdominal pain).
Add two zhong of water, decoct until one zhong remains. Take warm after meals. (Taking several doses monthly yields excellent results; mugwort leaves may be added.)
Modifications:
For abdominal pain, add Shaoren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) (5 fen) for its analgesic and Qi-moving properties. For emotional distress and Qi stagnation due to worry and anger, add Zisu (Perillae Folium) and Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) (5 fen each) to harmonize fetal Qi.
Ante-natal Decoction (An Tai Yin)
Suitable for use during pregnancy to clear heat and nourish Blood.
Dangguishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (1 qian), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (8 fen), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shaoren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (1 qian each), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 qian), Tiaohuangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (1.5 qian), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Aiye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) (8 fen each), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (4 fen).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Modifications:
For persistent vaginal bleeding, add Puhuang (Typhae Pollen) (1 qian) and Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini) (1 qian, fried). For abdominal pain, add Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) and Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) (1 qian each). For lower back pain, add Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex) and Xuduan (Dipsaci Radix). If there is fetal leakage (spotting during pregnancy), remove Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); adding Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) is also effective, as this condition belongs to Qi and Blood deficiency.
Danxi Fetus-Stabilizing Pill (Danxi Antai Wan)
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, fried) and Chenhuangqin (Scutellariae Radix, sunken wood quality) (2 liang each).
Grind into powder and form pills using congee, sized like paulownia seeds. Take on an empty stomach. For deficient individuals, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Huangqi (Astragali Radix). For Qi stagnation, add Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma); for Fire stagnation, add Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus). After the eighth or ninth month of pregnancy, it is advisable to take Dasheng San.
Jingui Danggui Pill (Jingui Danggui Wan)
Suitable for pregnant women to take regularly.
Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, wine-washed), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, wine-fried), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (4 liang each, with 2 liang stir-fried with vinegar), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, bran-fried), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, fried), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (2 liang each), Shaoren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) (1 liang).
Grind all ingredients into powder, bind with wheat paste to form pills sized like paulownia seeds. Take 60-70 pills per dose on an empty stomach, washed down with boiling water or rice soup. This formula consists of herbs that nourish Blood and clear heat. Thin individuals often have insufficient Blood and internal Heat, leading to restless fetus and a history of spontaneous abortion. It is advisable to take this formula prophylactically to clear the root cause and prevent complications. During pregnancy, women's Spleen transportation and transformation are hindered, leading to Dampness, which generates Heat. Ancient practitioners considered Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) as the supreme herbs for stabilizing the fetus. Baizhu tonifies the Spleen and dries Dampness, while Huangqin clears Heat. Furthermore, the fetus relies on Qi and Blood for nourishment. This formula adds Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), and Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini) to nourish Blood, and further adds Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Shaoren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) to stabilize the fetus, regulate Qi, and relieve abdominal pain, making it particularly excellent. After taking this formula, delivery becomes easier. The newborns, whether male or female, are free from fetal toxins, have fewer instances of chickenpox or smallpox, are healthy and easy to raise. Repeated use has proven effective repeatedly.
