Master Wu stated: "Clearing the Spleen" does not refer to cooling; rather, it means attacking the pathogenic factors so that the Spleen region becomes clear. Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Praeparatum) removes dampness, transforms phlegm, opens qi dynamics, and disperses exterior pathogens. Assisted by Caoguo (Fructus Tsaoko) and Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis), the turbidity of the Middle Jiao is rectified. However, the pulse in malaria is naturally wiry, indicating that Liver wind must be stirring. Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) and Qingpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) can disperse pathogens in the Jueyin channel. When Wood is excessive, it inevitably overacts on Earth (Spleen); thus, Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) and Fuling (Poria) can consolidate the Taiyin Earth. Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) clears fire, and Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) moderates urgency, thereby resolving the malaria pathogen. Nevertheless, this prescription is intended for robust individuals. Overuse may cause the pathogen to sink deep and become entrenched, leading to prolonged and difficult-to-cure conditions, or even transformation into other syndromes that are ultimately incurable. Physicians responsible for human life should certainly be vigilant and take this as a warning!
A miraculous treatment for long-standing malaria with persistent alternating chills and fever: Use high-quality sweet cinnamon bark (Rougui, Cortex Cinnamomi). Remove all coarse bark and cut into small pieces like coins or grains. Just before the onset of the malaria attack, hold the piece whole in the mouth to suck/chew. The chills will recede, fever will lighten, mental clarity will return, appetite will increase, and recovery will follow. Truly a miraculous prescription.
