Liu Hua (Willow Flower), when applied to moxibustion sores, treats damp-bi syndrome with tendon contraction and urgency. Its root, used as a mouthwash, expels the salivary discharge caused by gan accumulation (chronic malnutrition disease in children). The leaves treat blood stasis pain in the heart and abdomen. The branches treat wind-toxin causing urticaria and itching.
The tender branches of Shuiyang Ye (Salix babylonica Leaf) grow beside water margins, having absorbed excessive yin qi from water and earth; thus, its taste is bitter, nature is neutral, and it is non-toxic. Possessing bitter-cooling properties, internally taken it can dissipate damp-heat causing bloody or white dysentery; externally bathed, it harmonizes blood, resolves blood stasis, and alleviates qi stagnation associated with smallpox lesions.
Shi Nan (Rhododendron molle), also known as Gui Mu, obtains the qi of Geng Metal; therefore, its taste is acrid and bitter, nature is neutral, and it has slight toxicity. It belongs to yang within yin. It enters the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian and Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Obtaining dense metal-like qualities, it generates kidney water; thus, it specifically enters the liver and kidneys. Consequently, internal injuries with yin deficiency naturally recover, skin and hair become healthy, and leg weakness naturally strengthens. Long-term use by women induces intense longing for men, which is due to its ability to tonify kidney qi and assist yang fire.
Nan Teng (Gynura segetum Vine), also called Gong Ding Teng, specifically treats wind-pain. Soaked in wine and taken orally, it expels wind pathogens, strengthens waist and knees, removes bi-syndrome, supports weak legs, tonifies decline, and raises yang. Its action is vigorous; it can also be ground and swallowed, turning white hair black. Furthermore, Shi Nan Teng growing on rocks is most suitable for treating kidney decline and leg weakness, effective for wind-damp bi-syndrome, but women should not take it long-term, as doing so causes intense longing for men. Its fruit is particularly effective in killing parasites and detoxifying. It also expels wind-bi and accumulations.
(Taste is acrid, nature is warm, non-toxic.) Chen Xiang (Aquilaria Sinking Wood) is black in color, thus directs northward to regulate the kidney. Tan Xiang (Sandalwood) is yellow in color, thus directs centrally to regulate the spleen. Jiang Xiang (Daemonorops Draco Resin) is red in color, thus directs southward to regulate blood. Purple-black varieties are not used.
Jiang Zhen Xiang (Daemonorops Draco Resin) is among the clearest and most potent aromatics. Thus, it repels all evil qi and misfortune. Burning it wards off epidemic qi (seasonal infectious diseases) and strange phenomena in dwellings; children wearing it repels evil qi. For medicinal use, those imported via foreign ships are superior: they are reddish, sweet-smelling yet pungent, and highly effective. Deep purple varieties are inferior. Upper body trauma with stagnant blood accumulation, tenderness upon pressing the chest/diaphragm bones, or pain in the chest, hypochondrium, and ribs indicates impending hematemesis. Urgently, scrape Jiang Xiang into powder and decoct for oral administration; this is optimal. It treats internal injury or hematemesis caused by anger injuring the liver, replacing Yu Jin (Curcuma Wenyujin Rhizome) with miraculous effect. *Famous Doctors' Records* states: Zhou Chong was slashed by a pirate's blade, bleeding profusely with bones feeling severed. Huarui Shi San (Flower Mineral Powder) failed. Soldier Li Gao covered the wound with Zijin San (Purple Gold Powder); bleeding stopped, pain ceased, scabs formed the next day, healing firmly like iron without scars. Inquiring about the formula, it was made by scraping Zi Teng Xiang (Purple Vine Fragrance) from porcelain tiles and grinding it into powder. Zi Teng Xiang is the best quality of Jiang Xiang, having saved thousands.
