Treats various hemorrhoids with remarkable efficacy. Place a silkworm cocoon into a man's fingernail, filling it to capacity. Wrap it externally with hair from a young boy, burn it to ash while preserving its medicinal properties, mix with honey, and apply topically.
For chronic, non-healing hemorrhoids: Take one crucian carp, remove the entrails completely, fill with alum until full, burn on a tile until carbonized but retaining medicinal potency, grind into powder, wrap in chicken feathers, and apply to the lesion for immediate effect.
Hemorrhoids infested with parasites causing itching: Decoct bark of Sophora root (Huai Bai Pi) strongly, soak the affected area, replace when cool, repeat soaking for an extended period until worms are expelled.
To treat various hemorrhoids: Grind pig's hoof tip (Zhu Xuan Ti Jia) into powder, take two qian with rice water on an empty stomach.
Sophora flower (Huai Hua), Schizonepeta (Jing Jie), Aurantium (Zhi Ke), Mugwort leaf (Ai Ye): Decoct in water, add alum, fumigate then wash first, then cleanse.
Another prescription: Take seven Semen Momordicae (Mu Bie Zi), extract the kernel and grind, add two qian of alum, decoct in water, fumigate and wash two or three times.
Another method: For hemorrhoids with a distinct head/protrusion, use root of Genkwa (Yuan Hua), clean thoroughly, pound in a wooden mortar, squeeze juice with a small amount of water, slow-boil into a paste in a silver or copper vessel. Pass a silk thread through the paste, tie it around the hemorrhoid head. There will be slight pain during tying; wait until restlessness occurs and the hemorrhoid falls off. Then dip a paper twist in the paste and insert into the anal canal to permanently eradicate the root.
Wash with decoction of Jing Jie, Saposhnikovia (Fang Feng), and Mirabilite (Pu Xiao). Subsequently, grind Semen Momordicae and Curcuma aromatica (Yu Jin) into powder, add a little borneol (Long Nao), mix with water for topical application. Alternatively, mixing with bear bile (Xiong Dan) for application is especially excellent.
Place one slice of garlic, and mold head scum (Tou Gou) into a cake. First place the head scum cake on the hemorrhoid, then place the garlic slice on top, and perform moxibustion.
The onset of all diseases stems from the Six Evils (Liu Yin, external pathogenic factors) and Seven Emotions (Qi Qing, internal emotional factors). Among these, swelling disorders are particularly severe. These include edema due to Spleen deficiency, drum distension (Gu Zhang), general distension, skin swelling (Fu Zhang), and deficiency swelling, categorized by involvement of Zang or Fu organs. Children have delicate Zang-Fu organs; irregular diet damages the Spleen, impairing its ability to control water, leading to fluid overflow into the skin. Symptoms manifest in three types: Gan Water, Ji Water, and Jing Water. Gan Water results from Heart and Spleen deficiency, presenting with yellow complexion and swollen feet. Ji Water arises from accumulation in five Zang organs within the abdomen, condensing into fluid. Jing Water results from repeated fright, drying dampness with Heart fire, and excessive drinking leading to fluid retention. If the pulse in water disorders is floating, large, slippery, and excess, survival is likely as the pathogen is superficial and Qi is not severely deficient. If the pulse is deep, fine, deficient, and faint, death is likely as the pathology is interior with extreme deficiency, compounded by Yang deficiency failing to transform Yin.
If Dampness invades the Spleen and Stomach, impairing transformation, causing Qi to float to limbs and swelling of head and face, this is called Damp Swelling. If Damp-Toxin and other toxic vapors linger in the epigastrium, entering the abdomen causing pain, this is called Toxic Vapor Swelling. If Taiyang disease is purged too early, allowing pathogens to enter the abdomen causing swelling, this is called Taiyang Swelling. Deficiency swelling occurs after major illnesses where both Qi and Blood are deficient, Middle Qi is insecure, leading to outward floating and swelling—facial puffiness in the morning, foot swelling in the afternoon. If Yuan Qi is not exhausted, urgently nourish the Stomach and regulate the Spleen; the swelling will recede spontaneously.
Edema specifically refers to Spleen deficiency with Dampness invasion, causing Ying and Wei stagnation, Spleen failing to transport, Lung failing to descend, leading to water invading upward. Symptoms include puffy eye sockets, large white abdomen, cold swollen calves, pitting edema that rebounds quickly, and shiny skin like blisters. Untreated, skin may ulcerate and weep. Generalized sores are treatable; collapse indicates danger.
There are ten types of water disorders: Shortness of breath preventing lying flat is Heart Water; tight painful hypochondrium is Liver Water; loose diarrhea is Lung Water; heavy limbs is Spleen Water; lower back pain and cold feet is Kidney Water; bitter taste and dry throat is Gallbladder Water; alternating deficiency and excess is Large Intestine Water; abdominal urgency with emaciated limbs is Bladder Water; urinary obstruction is Stomach Water; lower abdominal fullness is Small Intestine Water. Gas accumulating in the Bladder causing scrotal swelling is also noted. Generally, Kidney deficiency fails to move water, Spleen deficiency fails to control water. The Stomach, sea of grain and water, if deficient, fails to transmit and transform, causing flooding that inundates Spleen Earth, stagnating San Jiao and blocking meridians. Qi stagnating in Zang causes distension; water overflowing in skin causes swelling. Treat by tonifying Qi and supplementing the Middle; do not merely use diuretics.
Drum Distension (Gu Zhang) involves abdominal fullness, inability to eat at night after eating in the morning, drum-like shape, sallow-yellow complexion, and visible abdominal veins, also called Single Drum. Though externally hard and full, internally it is hollow. Distension involves epigastric/full abdominal blockage, belching hindering food intake, shortness of breath, thirst, sallow thin shiny skin, emaciated trembling limbs with cough, scanty urine, and constipation. This is extreme Spleen deficiency; treat by greatly tonifying Middle Qi, assisting with damp-resolving herbs, or combining Buzhong Yiqi Tang and Jin Gui Shenqi Wan. Skin Swelling (Fu Zhang) results from sudden injury to Spleen/Stomach, abrupt wind-cold, and dampness pooling, causing whole-body swelling, non-rebounding abdominal pressure, lethargy, poor appetite, acid regurgitation, and nausea. Treat by drying dampness and harmonizing the Middle.
Swelling due to Qi deficiency is called Qi Gu; due to Blood deficiency, Blood Gu; due to both Ying and Wei deficiency, Qi-Blood Gu. Swelling starting in the abdomen and spreading to limbs is treatable; starting in limbs and returning to abdomen is difficult. Combined with drum distension, visible veins, loose stools, cyanosis, and panting, or single abdominal distension with hard features, black lips (liver injury), flat supraclavicular fossa (heart injury), protruding umbilicus (spleen injury), flat soles (kidney injury), flat back (lung injury)—these indicate severe organ damage. Male swelling ascending from feet, female descending from body, hard flesh, flat palms, extreme genital swelling/ulceration, black umbilicus, panting/thirst, cyanotic edema, branch-like skin discoloration, unilateral spots, spontaneous diarrhea, aversion to food, shriveled dry lips, incontinence, purple-black cloud-like spots—all are untreatable.
Generally, water/dampness causes lower swelling first; wind/fire causes upper swelling first. Yang water has deep-rapid pulse; Yin water has deep-slow pulse. Upper body swelling requires sweating; lower body swelling requires diuresis. Fever indicating exterior requires sweating; no fever indicating interior requires purging. This is the general rule, but avoid harsh drugs like Kansui (Gan Sui) or Euphorbia (Da Ji). If water qi invades the abdomen due to deficiency, how to treat? Even if swelling is due to accumulation, if swelling recurs after removing accumulation with oliguria, further diuretics will worsen obstruction. Doctors often despair; this is usually due to Middle Jiao Qi failure to ascend/descend, blocked by cold, closing water flow. Only by taking Chen Fu Tang type formulas will urine flow freely and panting/fullness recede.
In swelling syndromes, if Spleen deficiency exists but Qi has not leaked out, with abdominal distension but no swelling or panting, use tonification to eliminate, or elimination to tonify. Ensure Spleen transports and Kidney stores, so ancestral Qi remains rooted and Yuan Qi is deep and sourced, avoiding distension issues. If not treated early, leaking Qi attaches to Lung, enters limbs/face, causing generalized edema. Like warfare, attacking bandits before they leave the forest ensures victory; attacking after they leave ensures defeat. At this stage, gradually gather them by intent. Although symptoms appear excess, the root is deficiency.
