Tai Feng (Fetal Wind) arises because during the fetal stage, the Zang-Fu organs are not yet fully developed, and Shen Qi (Spiritual Energy) is not complete. If the mother behaves irregularly, indulges in sexual fatigue, or suffers from worry and overthinking, shouts loudly, or is exposed to loud noises, it damages the Heart and agitates the Spirit. Combined with improper postnatal care, exposure to Cold and Summer-Heat pathogens, open pores (Cou Li), Wind pathogens invade and enter the Bao Zhong (Uterus/Womb). After birth, the pathogenic qi remains in the Zang organs and cannot be freely circulated. Additionally, improper swaddling may cause cold injury to the umbilical cord, allowing Wind to affect the four limbs. Chaotic breastfeeding leads to sudden vomiting and diarrhea. The complexion may occasionally appear cyanotic or flushed. There is phlegm obstruction with high fever, restlessness due to fright, trembling of the hands and feet, opisthotonos (body stiffening backward), burning sensation on the head and face, inability to suckle due to mouth contraction, cyanosis around the stomach area, spasms, and clenched fists. However, if a male infant's fist is held outward or a female infant's fist is held inward, this is considered favorable (Shun). If there is reverse convulsion or unilateral convulsion, cold and flaccid body, opisthotonos, cyanotic face, and trembling lips, these are all signs of incurable conditions. Note that Tai Feng can also present with closed eyes; do not mistake it for Man Pi Feng (Chronic Spleen Wind) and recklessly administer warming medicines.
