It is specifically capable of regulating Qi and resolving phlegm, and also treats transmissive tuberculosis with bone-steaming consumption (a chronic consumptive disease caused by "tubercle worms," characterized by bone-steaming tidal fever and emaciation), sudden severe heart pain, acute poisoning from foul miasma (sudden illness caused by inhaling noxious vapors), various types of Jue syndrome (reversal conditions involving cold limbs or loss of consciousness), demonic influences, and malarial fevers.

When spasms and twisting of tendons occur during sleep or while stretching/yawning, extending from the big toe up to the waist and legs with severe pain, this mostly belongs to Blood heat and Blood dryness, failing to nourish the tendons. It is suitable to use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus Safflower Honghua, Scutellaria baicalensis Huangqin fried with wine, and Pinellia ternata Nanting. There are also cases caused by excessive rich nourishment, brewing damp-heat, followed by drinking cold liquids or catching cold, or catching cold during sleep, causing cold to restrain the heat. Since cold governs contraction and tension, it causes tendon spasms and pain. In cases where vomiting and diarrhea suddenly injure body fluids, leading to loss of nourishment for the tendons and resulting in tendon spasms entering the abdomen, all should be treated by warming and nourishing the Spleen and Stomach, resolving phlegm, and regulating Qi, so that Middle Qi circulates smoothly, and the tendon spasms in the four extremities will heal spontaneously.
One prescription
Treats Hongxiangjiao (Beriberi/Foot Qi) with tendon spasms, painful and tight contractions. Use Pine joint (Songjie) 2 liang, crushed like rice grains, and Frankincense (Ruxiang) 1 qian. Stir-fry until scorched in a clay vessel, then grind into powder. Take 1-2 qian per dose, mixed with hot Quince (Mu Gua) wine. This is excellent for all tendon diseases, not just foot spasms.
The *Neijing* states: Wind-stroke immediately after washing hair is called Shoufeng (Head Wind); wind-stroke after drinking alcohol is called Loufeng (Leaking Wind); wind-stroke after intercourse with sweating is called Neifeng (Internal Wind); pathogen entering inward is Changfeng (Intestinal Wind); pathogen staying outward is Xiefeng (Discharge Wind). The manifestations of wind affecting the Heart, Liver, Spleen, Lung, Kidney, and Stomach differ. It also says: Wind is the chief of all diseases. If one remains pure and quiet, the muscle pores close and resist pathogens; even strong winds and severe toxins cannot harm. Otherwise, the Eight Winds of Heaven invade when deficiency exists. The *Lingshu* states: Wind coming from the South is named Taiweak Wind. When injuring people, it resides internally in the Heart and externally in the vessels; its Qi is primarily Heat. Wind from the Southwest is named Moufeng. It resides internally in the Spleen and externally in the muscles; its Qi is primarily Weakness. Wind from the West is named Gangfeng. It resides internally in the Lung and externally in the skin; its Qi is primarily Dryness. Wind from the Northwest is named Zhefeng. It resides internally in the Small Intestine and externally in the Hand-Taiyang vessel; if the vessel closes, qi and blood knot and do not flow, leading to sudden death. Wind from the North is named Dagangfeng. It resides internally in the Kidney and externally in the bones and the Du tendons of the shoulder and back; its Qi is primarily Cold. Wind from the Northeast is named Xiongfeng. It resides internally in the Large Intestine and externally in the lower parts of the two flanks, armpits, and joints. Wind from the East is named Ying'erfeng. It resides internally in the Liver and externally in the tendon connections; its Qi makes the body damp. Wind from the Southeast is named Ruofeng. It resides internally in the Stomach and externally in the muscles; its Qi causes heaviness. These are called the Eight Winds; sages avoid them as they would avoid arrows and stones. The Classic says: Avoid false evils and thief winds at the proper time. Thief winds refer to situations such as: when the monthly branch is Mao or Yin (Wood), wind coming from the West (Metal) clashes with Wood. When the monthly branch is Si or Wu (Fire), wind from the North (Water) clashes with Fire. When the monthly branch is Shen or You (Metal), wind from the South (Fire) clashes with Metal. When the monthly branch is Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei (Earth), wind from the East (Wood) clashes with Earth. When the monthly branch is Zi, wind from the South (Fire) overcomes excessively. When the monthly branch is You, wind from the East (Wood) overcomes excessively. All these are thief winds and should be avoided. For example, Liver Wind-stroke causes difficulty lifting the head while squatting/sitting, left flank pain, tendon spasms, twitching of the head and eyes, upward gaze, and irritability. Heart Wind-stroke allows only supine lying, inability to turn sideways, fever, loss of voice, and a scorched red tongue. Spleen Wind-stroke causes abdominal fullness, yellowing of the body, yellow lips, squatting posture, inability to move the four limbs, and twitching of skin and flesh. Lung Wind-stroke causes supine position with chest fullness, panting, coughing, dryness, stifling sensation, sweating, ability to see but inability to speak. Kidney Wind-stroke causes squatting with facial edema, lower back and spine pain radiating to the lower abdomen. If wind enters the jaw and cheeks, the mouth clamps shut and teeth tighten. If wind lodges in the throat, the vocal aperture is blocked, causing loss of voice. When wind and Qi struggle, Qi is obstructed by phlegm, producing a sawing sound. When struggling in the tendons and vessels, due to Cold there is stiffness, spasm, and floating-tight pulse; due to Heat there is flaccidity, non-compliance, and floating-hong pulse. Floating indicates exterior, suitable for sweating; Excess indicates interior, suitable for purging; Rapid/Cu indicates upper jiao, suitable for vomiting. However, treating wind requires first regulating Qi; one must not solely use wind-dispelling drugs, as aggressive attack worsens the wind condition. One must ensure the smooth circulation of Ying and Wei nutrients, then the wind can heal itself without specific treatment.
