赤芍药，利小便，消痈肿，下结气，疗肠风，破积坚。治血脾；治火盛眼痛，去血
瘀血热，故泻肝行血除热，此其长也。倘病非实热有余者勿服。
主治（痘疹合参） 有泻无补，利九窍小便，攻血痹止痛。专解血热痘毒热毒，化
斑消肿并用，泻血中之热，行血中之滞。
禀天地清寒之气而兼金之性，故味苦、平，大寒，无毒。入手太阴、少阴、太阳、
阳明，亦入足少阳。其性清肃，所以除邪，味苦所以燥湿，阴寒所以胜热，故去诸邪热
与湿热也。入邪热实症药用宜生，入脾胃泻痢药用宜酒拌炒，入安胎药用宜条实者，酒
浸炒黄。
黄芩，泻肺火，消痰利气，除湿热，不留积于肌表，泻大肠火，养阴退阳，又滋化
源，常充溢于膀胱，赤痢频并，赤眼肿胀。得白术、砂仁安胎孕，同浓朴黄连治腹痛，
总除诸热，收尽全功。中枯而大者，轻飘上行，清肺部而止嗽化痰，并理目赤；紧实而
细者，沉重下降，泻大肠而除湿，治痢兼可安胎。若脾虚肾虚，泄泻血虚，胎气不安。
一切虚热禁忌。
主治（痘疹合参） 宜酒炒用。泻肺胃火，解热毒，养阴退阳，上焦热盛者可用。
然中枯而飘者，泻肺金之火，而消痰退热于肌表；细实而坚者，泻大肠之火而滋阴，兼
退热于膀胱。但于初起，以至灌浆，俱所禁服。惟收靥以后，余热毒盛者皆宜。安胎尤
不可缺。如胃虚脾弱，脉沉细者，切勿混投。
赤芍药，能通利小便，消除痈肿，下行郁结之气，治疗肠风（便血），破除积滞坚块。主治脾经血分病；治疗火气旺盛引起的眼痛，去除瘀血和血热，因此具有泻肝、行血、除热的功效，这是它的特长所在。如果不是实热有余的病症，则不要服用。
主治（痘疹合参）：只有泻邪作用而没有补益作用，能通利九窍和小便，攻逐血痹以止痛。专门解除血热、痘毒和热毒，化斑和消肿同时使用，泻除血中的热邪，运行血中的滞涩。
赤芍药禀受天地清寒之气，并兼具金的性质，所以味道苦、性平，大寒，无毒。归入手太阴肺经、手少阴心经、手太阳小肠经、手阳明大肠经，也进入足少阳胆经。它的性质清肃，所以能祛除邪气；味道苦，所以能燥湿；阴寒之性，所以能胜热，因此能去除各种邪热与湿热。用于邪热实证时，药物宜生用；用于脾胃泻痢时，药物宜用酒拌炒；用于安胎时，药物宜选用条状坚实者，用酒浸后炒至黄色。
黄芩，能泻肺火，消除痰液，利顺气机，清除湿热，使湿热不滞留于肌表，泻大肠之火，滋养阴液，退抑阳亢，又能滋生化之源，使津液常充盈于膀胱，适用于赤痢频发、眼睛红肿疼痛。配伍白术、砂仁可安胎孕，同厚朴、黄连一起可治疗腹痛，总括起来能清除各种热邪，发挥全部功效。中间枯空而体积大的，质地轻飘上行，能清肺部热邪而止咳化痰，并调理目赤；紧实而细小的，质地沉重下降，能泻大肠之火而除湿，治疗痢疾兼可安胎。如果是脾虚肾虚、泄泻、血虚、胎气不安的情况，以及一切虚热证，均禁忌使用。
主治（痘疹合参）：宜用酒炒后使用。能泻肺胃之火，解热毒，养阴退阳，上焦热盛者可以使用。然而，中间枯空而轻飘的，能泻肺金之火，而在肌表消除痰热；细小坚实而坚硬的，能泻大肠之火而滋阴，兼在膀胱退热。但在痘疹初起，直到灌浆阶段，都禁止服用。只有在收靥（结痂脱落）以后，余热毒盛的情况下才适宜使用。安胎方面尤其不可缺少。如果胃虚脾弱，脉象沉细的，切勿随意投药。
Chi Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), promotes urination, resolves carbuncles and swellings, directs downward stagnant Qi, treats intestinal wind (hematochezia), and breaks up accumulation and hardness. It treats blood disorders of the Spleen; it treats eye pain caused by excessive Fire, removes blood stasis and blood heat, thus its strengths lie in purging the Liver, moving blood, and clearing heat. If the condition is not one of excess solid-heat, it should not be taken.
Main Indications (Integration with Smallpox and Measles): It has a purgative effect but no tonifying effect; it benefits the nine orifices and urination, attacks blood bi to relieve pain. It specifically resolves blood heat, smallpox toxin, and heat toxin; it transforms macules and reduces swelling simultaneously, purges heat from the blood, and moves stagnation in the blood.
It inherits the clear and cold qi of Heaven and Earth and possesses the nature of Metal; therefore, its taste is bitter and neutral, its nature is greatly cold, and it is non-toxic. It enters the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian, Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian, Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian, and Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian, and also enters the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. Its nature is clear and austere, so it expels pathogens; its bitter taste dries dampness; its yin-cold nature overcomes heat, thus it eliminates various pathogenic heat and damp-heat. For conditions of pathogenic heat and excess syndrome, raw herb is suitable; for Spleen and Stomach dysentery, wine-fried herb is suitable; for calming the fetus, thick and solid strips are suitable, soaked in wine and fried until yellow.
Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), purges Lung Fire, eliminates phlegm, facilitates Qi movement, removes damp-heat, preventing accumulation on the muscle surface, purges Large Intestine Fire, nourishes Yin, retreats Yang, and further nourishes the source of transformation, keeping the Bladder full. It is indicated for frequent red dysentery and swollen red eyes. When combined with Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) and Sharen (Fructus Amomi), it calms the fetus; when combined with Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) and Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), it treats abdominal pain. Collectively, it eliminates all types of heat, achieving complete efficacy. Those that are hollow in the center and large are light and float upward, clearing Lung heat to stop coughing and transform phlegm, and regulating red eyes; those that are tight, solid, and thin are heavy and descend downward, purging Large Intestine fire and removing dampness, treating dysentery while also calming the fetus. Contraindicated in cases of Spleen deficiency, Kidney deficiency, diarrhea, blood deficiency, unstable fetal qi, and all deficiency-heat syndromes.
Main Indications (Integration with Smallpox and Measles): Suitable for use after wine frying. It purges Lung and Stomach Fire, resolves heat toxins, nourishes Yin, and retreats Yang; it can be used for excess heat in the Upper Jiao. However, those that are hollow in the center and light purge Lung Metal fire and eliminate phlegm and heat on the muscle surface; those that are thin, solid, and hard purge Large Intestine fire and nourish Yin, while also retreating heat in the Bladder. But during the initial stage up to the pustule formation stage, it is strictly contraindicated. It is only suitable after the scabs fall off, when residual heat and toxins are abundant. It is indispensable for calming the fetus. In cases of Stomach deficiency, Spleen weakness, and deep-thin pulse, do not administer indiscriminately.
