(There are twenty-seven acupoints on the left and right sides of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, totaling fifty-four acupoints; plus nine acupoints on the Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian, totaling sixteen acupoints [Note: Textual inconsistency in original source regarding total count, translated literally].)
Diagram of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian
The Kidney Meridian originates at Yongquan (Bubbling Spring, KI1). It is located by flexing the foot and curling the toes. Ranggu (Valley of Nature, KI2) is found below the large bone anterior to the medial malleolus. Taixi (Great Stream, KI3) is located posterior to the medial malleolus and above the calcaneus. Dazhong (Great Bell, KI4) is sought five fen below Taixi. Shuiquan (Water Spring, KI5) is approximately one cun below Dazhong. Zhaohai (Meeting Sea, KI6) is located below the medial malleolus. The Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Heel Vessel) arises from Zhaohai. Fuliou (Slipping Return, KI7) is named so and is located two cun above the medial malleolus. Jiaoxin (Intersection of Faith, KI8) is taken between the tendon and bone anterior to Fuliou. Zhubin (Guest of the Shadow, KI9) is located six cun above the medial malleolus. Yingu (Yin Valley, KI10) is situated below the knee, adhering to the bone. At the location of the auxiliary bone and Henggu (Transverse Bone, KI11), there is a depression resembling an inverted moon. Dahe (Great Heat, KI12), Qi Xue (Qi Point, KI13), Siman (Four Fullnesses, KI14), Zhongzhu (Central Pivot, KI15), and Huangshu (Concealed Transport, KI16) are six acupoints aligned with the umbilicus, spaced five cun apart on each side. Shangqu (Upper Curve, KI17) is located behind the previous point and Guan Shang. Yindu (Hidden Capital, KI18), Tonggu (Through Valley, KI19), and Youmen (Gate of Stomach, KI20) are spaced one cun apart. Youmen is located half a cun lateral to Juque (Giant Abdomen, CV14). Bulang (Divine Corridor, KI21), Shenfeng (Divine Seal, KI22), Lingxu (Spiritual Void, KI23), Shencang (Spirit Storage, KI24), Yuzhong (Orchid Center, KI25), and Shuyu (Acupoint of Transport, KI26) are each spaced one cun and six fen apart without error. To know the position of Shuyu, it is two cun lateral to Xuanji (Jade Pivot, CV21).
In the foot meridians, the Kidney meridian belongs to Shaoyin. From the little toe, it slants towards Yongquan, passes below Xin (Heart) and Ranggu, emerges separately from the posterior aspect of the medial malleolus into the heel, invades internally, emerges from the medial aspect of the leg, ascends along the medial thigh, penetrates the spine, belongs to the Kidney, and connects with the Bladder. The straight branch belongs to the Kidney, penetrates the Liver and Diaphragm, enters the Lung, follows the throat, and reaches the root of the tongue. A branch emerges from the Lung, connects with the Heart, and finally reaches the chest. This pathway is deep within this region. This meridian has abundant Qi but scarce Blood. When diseased, symptoms include hunger without desire to eat, asthma and cough, hemoptysis, wheezing in the throat, a sensation of wanting to rise while sitting, a dull and dirty complexion, blurred vision, insufficient Qi, a feeling of emptiness in the heart akin to hunger, constant palpitations and fear. Diseases generated by this meridian include dry tongue and hot mouth, sore throat, Qi rushing upward to the posterior medial aspect of the thigh accompanied by spinal pain, vexation and pain in the heart and intestines, jaundice with emaciation, flaccidity and cold extremities, lethargy, bodily lassitude, heat and pain in the soles of the feet; these are all manifestations of Kidney Jue (Reversal Cold).
(Diagram of the Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian)
Where is the Tianchi (Heavenly Pool, PC1) of the Jueyin Pericardium? It is obtained one cun posterior to the nipple. Tianquan (Heavenly Spring, PC2) is sought two cun below the axilla. Quze (Curved Marsh, PC3) is found by searching for the arterial pulse in the inner crease. Jianshi (Intercourse Messenger, PC5) is encountered three cun posterior to the wrist. Neiguan (Inner Passageway, PC6) is only two cun from the wrist. Daling (Great Palace, PC7) is located between the two tendons posterior to the palm. Laogong (Palace of Labor, PC8) is taken within the palm when the fingers are curled, corresponding to the tip of the middle finger. Zhongchong (Middle Rush, PC9) is obtained at the tip of the middle finger.
The Hand Jueyin Heart Master meridian originates in the chest, belongs to the Pericardium, descends through the diaphragm, and connects with the Sanjiao (Triple Burner). A branch follows the chest, emerges laterally, descends to connect with the axilla three cun below, still ascends to reach the axilla, follows the medial aspect of the arm, between the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian and Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian, penetrating to Zhongchong at the tip of the middle finger. Another branch diverges from the fingers, connecting via a collateral network between the little finger and the second finger. The Pericardium Collateral originally has abundant Blood but scarce Qi. If movement occurs, diseases manifest as heat in the palms, spasm and stiffness of the elbow and arm, swelling in the axilla; severely, there is distension and fullness supporting the chest and hypochondrium, a vague sense of unease in the heart, or palpitations, propensity to weep, yellow eyes, and red facial color. Diseases generated include vexation in the heart, heart pain, and heat in the palms.
