The ascending and descending of Qi, whether pathogenic or healthy, invariably passes through the Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) channel, as Shaoyang is the pathway of Yin and Yang. When Yin and Yang contend, abdominal pain results. The formula uses Chuanxiong, Danggui, and Shaoyao to harmonize Yin blood, Shengjiang to unblock Yang Qi, Banxia to calm the Stomach, and Gancao to benefit the Spleen, thereby resolving the contention between Yin and Yang, and the abdominal pain heals. When Qi ascends, heat occurs; the formula uses Li Gen Bai Pi to descend Qi. When Qi descends, cold occurs; the formula uses Sheng Gegen to ascend fluids. With proper regulation of ascending and descending, chills and fever heal. Moreover, Huangqin alone is a specific herb for Shaoyang disorders. Observing that major and minor Xiaochaihu Tangs in *Shanghan Lun* both employ this herb, it is evident that amidst myriad variations, adhering strictly to the Six Channels differentiation ensures no deviation whatsoever.
