Danggui Liu Huang Tang (Angelica Sinensis and Six Yellow Decoction) treats night sweats caused by Yin deficiency with fever.
Ingredients: Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Sheng Di Huang (Rhizoma Rehmanniae Recens), Shu Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huang Bai (Phellodendri Cortex), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1.5 qian), Zhi Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried) (3 qian).
Usage: Decoct in water and take orally.
Shen Fu Tang (Ginseng and Aconite Decoction) treats spontaneous sweating and other symptoms due to Kidney Qi deficiency.
Ingredients: Ren Shen (Panacis Ginseng Radix) (1 liang), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) (5 qian).
Usage: Decoct in water.
Qi Fu Tang (Astragalus and Aconite Decoction) treats spontaneous sweating due to Wei Yang (Defensive Yang) deficiency. It is the previous formula (Shen Fu Tang) with Zhi Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried, 1 liang) replacing Ren Shen (Panacis Ginseng Radix).
Zhu Fu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction) treats spontaneous sweating accompanied by dampness due to Spleen Yang deficiency. It is the previous formula (Qi Fu Tang) with Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang) replacing Ren Shen (Panacis Ginseng Radix).
Spontaneous sweating refers to sweat flowing out spontaneously; it belongs to Yang deficiency. It is suitable to use Yupingfeng San (Jade Windscreen Powder) plus Mu Li (Ostreae Concha) and Fu Xiao Mai (Tritici Levis Fructus) to consolidate the exterior and tonify Yang Qi. Night sweats refer to sweating during sleep and stopping upon waking; it belongs to Yin deficiency. It is suitable to use Danggui Liu Huang Tang (Angelica Sinensis and Six Yellow Decoction) to tonify Yin and clear fire. However, there is a principle of mutual root between Yin and Yang. There are cases where Yang deficiency is treated by addressing Yin, and cases where Yin deficiency is treated by addressing Yang; these must be known. Furthermore, sweat is the fluid of the Heart. It is suitable to tonify the Heart, using Renshen Yangrong Tang (Ginseng and Nourishing Vigor Decoction) as the primary formula. Fluids are governed by the Kidney. It is suitable to tonify the Kidney, using Zuogui Yin (Left Restoring Decoction), Yougui Yin (Right Restoring Decoction), Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), and Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill with Cinnamon and Dogwood) as primary formulas. In summary, the excretion of sweat takes Yuan Qi (Original Qi) as its pivot. If there is profuse sweating accompanied by cold limbs, Liuwei Huiyang Yin (Six-Ingredient Decoction to Restore Yang) must be used, increasing the dosage of Ren Shen (Panacis Ginseng Radix) to approximately 1 liang, to salvage the condition. If Shaoyang disease (Cold Damage) is mistakenly induced to sweat, causing dryness of fluids in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), it will inevitably draw Kidney Water upward and overflow outward, resembling gushing water. This is named Wang Yang (Collapse of Yang) and must be rescued with Zhenwu Tang (True Warrior Decoction). This is because Fuling (Poria) in this decoction stabilizes water, assisted by Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) to restore Yang.
Sweating accompanied by panting, sweating accompanied by pulse disappearance, sweating accompanied by body pain, sweating with hair moistening up to the vertex, sweating like oil, sweating like pearls—whenever such signs appear, one must not administer medication recklessly.
Pulse: Yin pulses are favorable; if they gradually become slow and relaxed, it is auspicious. Yang pulses are unfavorable; if accompanied by short, choppy, rapid, knotted, intermittent, scattered, or leather pulses, it is difficult to treat.
Yupingfeng San (Jade Windscreen Powder)
Ingredients: Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried, 2 qian), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried, 0.2 qian), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 0.5 qian).
Usage: Decoct in water and take orally.
Author's Note: It is appropriate to use Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) as the sovereign herb, and the dosage can be increased to 5–7 qian.
Lian Zao Mai Dou Tang (Lotus Seed, Date, Floating Wheat, and Bean Decoction) (from *Zhongfutang*), a formula for treating night sweats.

Huang Dou Tang (Yellow Bean Decoction)

Liuwei Huiyang Yin (Six-Ingredient Decoction to Restore Yang), treats Yin and Yang dual deficiency with incessant sweating.
Ingredients: Shu Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) (4–5 qian or 1 liang), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (2–3 qian), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (roasted, 1–2 qian), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) (2–5 qian), Ren Shen (Panacis Ginseng Radix) (2–3 qian to 1 liang), Zhi Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) (1–3 qian).
Usage: Decoct in water and take orally.
Note: For cases of collapse of Yang due to sweating, replace Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) with Fuling (Poria) and add one Wu Mei (Mume Fructus).
External Treatment Method: Grind Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis) into powder, mix with saliva to form pills, and apply to the umbilicus. (Males use female saliva; females use male saliva.) Seal externally with a plaster to prevent Qi leakage; it stops after one night. Alternatively, grind Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi) and Mu Li (Ostreae Concha) into powder, wrap in thin cloth, and rub on sweaty areas. The powder enters the pores to consolidate them.
