Grind the herbs into an extremely fine powder and store them in a small porcelain jar. For each use, take a small amount of clear water, dip a bone hairpin into two or three *li* (a traditional unit of weight/measure) of the powder, and apply it to the inner canthus of the eye, similar to the method of applying eye drops.
After application, avoid drinking hot tea and eating for half a day; the illness will be cured.
Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, peeled of the white pith), Chenxiangyuan (Erythrochylae Fructus, pulped of the white pith), Chenzhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, pulped of the white pith and stir-fried), Chenateye (Camelliae Sinensis Folium).
These are equal parts ground into powder. Take three *qian* per dose, mixed with boiling water.
Treats abdominal abscesses (Fuzhong Yong).
Mudanpi (Paeoniae Moutan Cortex, 3 *qian*), Yiren (Coicis Semen, 5 *qian*), Taoren (Persicae Semen, 10 grains), Gualouren (Trichosanthis Semen, shelled, oil removed, 2 *qian*).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Medical texts state: The large abdomen belongs to the Taiyin Spleen channel, the area around the umbilicus belongs to the Shaoyin Kidney channel, and the lower abdomen belongs to the Jueyin Liver channel. When Cold Damage (Shanghan) pathogens transmit to the Jueyin channel, severe pain in the lower abdomen indicates heat pathogen, which should be treated with purgation. If heat is bound internally and blood stasis accumulates in the lower jiao, purgation is also indicated. If cold pathogen directly invades the Jueyin channel, causing cold pain in the lower abdomen, it is a cold pathogen disease, requiring warm purgation. Treatment methods are detailed in this section. Ordinary lower abdominal pain often belongs to conditions such as hernia (Shan), mass accumulation (Jia), and running piglet syndrome (Ben Tun). Medical texts state: Men are prone to seven types of hernias, while women are prone to leukorrhea and mass accumulation. Ancient physicians also used the terms "Pi" (masses fixed in place) and "Jia" (shifting masses). These all belong to the same category. "Pi" is hard like a bowstring, involving raised sinews; "Pi" implies hidden and deep-seated masses adhering to the bones. "Jia" presents with palpable lumps, similar to accumulations (Ji), and is mostly related to blood. "Jia" means false; it gathers and disperses suddenly, caused by Qi. Ben Tun feels like a river dolphin leaping upward, caused by cold Qi rushing up. This type of Jia Qi, when gathered in the Small Intestine, is called Small Intestine Qi; when gathered in the Bladder, it is called Bladder Qi. Patients with Small Intestine Qi feel relief after passing gas; patients with Bladder Qi experience heat in the lower abdomen, as if scalded by soup, and have difficult, scanty urination. In treating lower abdominal pain, drugs with descending properties should be used. Qi-moving herbs should all include "seed/kernel" (He) types to reach the disease site effectively. Juhe Wan (Orange Seed Pill) and Bentun Wan (Running Piglet Pill) both treat these conditions.
Generally treats Jia masses, Pi masses, Small Intestine Qi, and Bladder Qi.
Juhe (Kumquat Seed, stir-fried with salt wine, 2 liang), Chuanlianzi (Toosendan Fructus, baked and meat removed), Shanzhazhi (Crataegi Fructus, stir-fried), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, soaked in ginger juice and stir-fried, 1.5 liang each), Lizhihe (Litchi Seed, baked and crushed), Xiaohuixiang (Foeniculi Fructus, lightly stir-fried, 1 liang each), Shenqu (Medicated Leaven, 4 liang).
If cold is severe, add Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 5 qian), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 3 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang). If there is heat, add Heishanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus, charred, 7 qian); additionally, for hernia cases where exterior cold binds interior heat, Danxi advocated using Heishanzhi together with Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus). Regarding these two herbs, if there is disharmony of cold and heat, adding them to the pill is even better. If there is Bao Bi (Bladder obstruction) causing difficult urination, remove Xiaohuixiang and add Fuling (Poria), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Heishanzhi.
