Essence (Jing) is stored in the Kidney and interacts with the Heart Spirit (Shen), resulting in warm essence that does not leak. If essence fails to interact with spirit, it leads to seminal emission or leakage. The root cause lies in the failure of the Liver and Spleen Qi to ascend: Gallbladder Wood (Yi Wood) ascends and transforms into Ministerial Fire, while Spleen Earth (Ji Earth) ascends to generate Liver Wood. When Wood and Fire grow vigorously, Yang Qi develops, and Yin Essence becomes warm and harmonious, thus preventing sinking and flow; however, once Spleen Dampness obstructs ascent, Liver Wood loses its nature of growth, leading to downward stagnation and excessive discharge. The treatment method should involve warming Kidney Water and cultivating Spleen Earth, clearing Liver Wind to remove stagnation, so that essence naturally stops leaking. The primary formula is Yuchi Tang (Jade Pool Decoction).
Yuchi Tang (Jade Pool Decoction)
Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, 3 qian) Fuling (Poria, 3 qian) Gancao (Licorice Root, 2 qian) Shaoyao (Peony Root, 3 qian) Longgu (Fossilized Bones, 2 qian) Muli (Oyster Shell, 3 qian) Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root, 3 qian) Sharen (Amomum Fruit, 1 qian, stir-fried, ground, skin removed)
Decoct in water until half a cup remains, take warm. If Dampness is abundant and Liver Wood is stagnant, generating lower jiao heat, double the dosage of Fuling and Baishao (White Peony Root), and add Zexie (Alisma Rhizome) and Danpi (Moutan Cortex). Do not erroneously use cooling/clearing herbs, as this will damage the Yang of the Spleen and Kidney.
Mi Yuan Jian (Secret Origin Decoction)
This formula specifically secures the Heart and Spleen.
Renshen (Ginseng Root, 3 qian) Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, 3 qian) Fuling (Poria, 3 qian) Gancao (Licorice Root, 2 qian) Shanyao (Dioscorea Rhizome, 3 qian) Yuanzhi (Polygala Root, 2 qian) Zaoren (Ziziphus Seed, 3 qian) Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit, 2 qian) Qianshi (Euryale Seed, 3 qian) Lianrou (Lotus Seed Flesh, 3 qian)
Decoct in water until half a cup remains, take warm.
Spirit (Shen) is stored in the Heart and interacts with Kidney Essence, resulting in clear spirit that does not tremble. If spirit fails to interact with essence, palpitations and fright arise. The root cause lies in the failure of Gallbladder and Stomach Qi to descend: Gallbladder Wood (Jia Wood) descends to secure Kidney Water, while Stomach Earth (Wu Earth) descends to collect Lung Metal. Metal and Water are sealed and stored, Yin Qi converges, and Yang Spirit remains tranquil, thus avoiding agitation. However, once Stomach Dampness obstructs descent, Fire loses its nature of sealing and storing, leading to upward flaming and causing restlessness. The treatment method should involve descending Earth, clearing Wood, restraining Ministerial Fire, and securing the root, so that spirit naturally stabilizes. The primary formula is Jinding Tang (Golden Tripod Decoction).
Jinding Tang (Golden Tripod Decoction)
Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, 3 qian) Fuling (Poria, 3 qian) Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 3 qian) Gancao (Licorice Root, 2 qian) Shaoyao (Peony Root, 3 qian) Longgu (Fossilized Bones, 3 qian) Muli (Oyster Shell, 3 qian)
Decoct in water until half a cup remains, take warm. If there is upper heat, double Shaoyao to clear Gallbladder Fire. If there is lower cold, add Fuzi to warm Kidney Water. If the disease is severe and chronic, with Ben Tun (Running Piglet Qi) condensation, hardness and intense cold in the lower abdomen, this indicates excess Yin Evil. Use Fuzi cautiously/slowly; the priority is to dry Dampness and strengthen the Spleen, regulate the Spleen and Stomach, and subsequently apply pastes made from warming and drying herbs externally. This is detailed in Huang's discussion on Ben Tun syndrome.
