[Danxi] The Gentleman Zhu suffered from dysuria with pain. His pulse was large on the left and choppy on the right. This is due to labor injury damaging the blood vessels; do not treat it as Lin syndrome (strangury). It can be cured by nourishing blood and moving stagnant blood in the Liver meridian.
Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chi Shao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) (each 1 qian), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (3 fen), Tiao Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (3 fen), Gan Shao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, tip) (3 fen), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (5 fen), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis) (5 fen), Huang Bai (Phellodendri Cortex) (2 fen, stir-fried), Hong Hua (Carthami Flos) (size of a bean), Du Niu Xi (Cyathulae Radix) (1 qian).
Crush Tao Ren (Persicae Semen) into a paste, decoct together with Hua Shi (Talcum). When the symptoms of Lin syndrome subside, remove Hua Shi, Tao Ren, Du Niu Xi, and Mu Tong. Add Chuan Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) to replace Mu Tong, and double the dosage for two doses.
Shen Mingshu from Jinhua, over seventy years old, had suffered from Kidney Qi Hernia pain since his youth due to cold exposure, frequently consuming Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Wu Tou (Aconiti Radix), and Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata). For over twenty years, the hernia pain subsided slightly, but he developed dysuria with pain. For another thirteen years, he took drugs like Po Xiao (Natrii Sulfas), Xiao (Natrii Sulfas Exsiccatus), and Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) to treat various Lin syndromes. He tried hundreds of prescriptions without effect. In the spring of that year, a carbuncle appeared on the right side of his neck, extending to the supraclavicular fossa, about one chi in size. He could not eat, and the dysuria worsened, requiring him to cry out in pain. The wound ulcerated profusely with pus and blood, leaving him exhausted and weak. It was the sixth month. His pulse was choppy and short in both hands, slightly wiry on the left, and approximately five beats per breath at both light and heavy pressure. I said: This carbuncle is caused by the accumulation of toxicity from previous use of Wu Tou and Fu Zi. This dysuria is also due to drying and heating drugs causing stagnant blood to coagulate and fill the bladder. Moreover, a choppy pulse indicates ruined blood, and a short pulse indicates blood depletion. I asked him if anything resembling spoiled pus came out after urination. He confirmed this. I reasoned that enduring pain damages blood, while crying damages Qi. Therefore, I first treated the dysuria, instructing him to decoct the root, stem, and leaf of Du Niu Xi to obtain a thick juice, then decoct Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), and administer a large dose. After three days, the pain gradually decreased. The "spoiled pus" mentioned earlier gradually diminished, and within five to seven days, the dysuria was completely resolved. At this time, the carbuncle also stabilized, likely because Si Wu Tang generates blood. However, his appetite remained poor, and the wound had not yet healed. Thus, I used a large dose of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), [missing character], Dang Gui, and Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), decocted in a clay pot to make a paste. I decocted Chen Pi, Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Suo Sha (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), and Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) to obtain clear juice, which was mixed with the paste for drinking. He was then able to eat. One month later, the carbuncle settled.

Hundreds of prescriptions failed. She accidentally drank this prescription and was cured in one night. I witnessed it.
[Qian] Use Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) boiled in wine to treat dysuria with pain. *Zhou Hou Fang* uses the root, stem, and leaf of Niu Xi, also boiled in wine, to treat difficult urination, severe pain in the urethra, and blood stasis with hard pain in women, as if divine. Niu Xi is indeed the holy medicine for treating Lin, but for deficient persons, it should be used with tonifying agents to moderate its action.

For each type of Lin, use different decoctions as vehicles. For Lao fatigue and deficiency with no urination and urgent lower abdominal pain, use Kui Zi (Malvae Semen) decoction. After urination resumes, take tonifying deficiency pills/powders. For Blood Lin with no urination and intermittent bleeding/pain, mix with cold water. For Qi Lin with lower abdominal fullness/urgency and post-void dribbling, use Mu Tong decoction. For Stone Lin with pain inside the urethra, inability to urinate, internal pulling pain in lower abdomen, swelling/urgency, and passing gravel causing fainting, put the powder in a pot, heat through paper until paper chars, re-grind, and mix with warm water. For urinary retention, use Xiao Mai (Tritici Venilis Fructus) decoction. For sudden onset of various Lins, mix with cold water, take on an empty stomach, let the medicine dissolve like water, then take, followed by the vehicle decoction. If previous medicines fail, this cures immediately.
[Zihe] Liu Shisan's son from Baiting, six years old, suffered from gravel strangury. Dai Ren used bitter emetics to induce vomiting three times and Yi Shen San (Tonify Kidney Powder) to purge three times. Cured immediately.
In Luyi, a noble family had a son of twenty-three who suffered from milky strangury for three years. Local doctors could not cure him. He visited the capital extensively. Most diagnosed deficiency and treated with warming/drying tonics and moxibustion, with no improvement. Hearing Dai Ren lived in HT Dong, he sought treatment. Dai Ren said: This is a disorder of confusion/gu poison, also called Bai Yin (white turbidity). It is actually due to heat in the lower abdomen, not deficiency. It can be treated with purging via emesis. Due to the summer heat, the patient feared the harsh method and hesitated for three days. A Buddhist monk said: I also have a summer illness, recently headache. Dai Ren said: You can also vomit. Let us do it together, do not fear. Thus, he vomited three sheng of phlegm, black like alum juice, containing dead blood and yellow-green water. He also purged accumulated filth several times. He felt better immediately. When he arrived, his face was pale. After treatment, the next day his face looked flushed. Dai Ren worried about the long journey in summer and prescribed several formulas for him to take home.
The child of the Zhang family in Qucun, fourteen years old, had been ill for about a year and a half, starting in summer/autumn. Attacks involved severe pain in urination, causing him to jump and spin holding his genitals, crying endlessly. Urine was retained for days, then passed as gravel. Severe constipation, anus prolapsed one or two cun. Doctors could not cure him. He sought Dai Ren. Dai Ren said: Today treat, today effective. It is now Chen/Si hours. Use only one liang of Tiao Wei Cheng Qi Tang (Regulate the Stomach and Order the Qi Decoction), add two qian of the head powder of Qian Niu (Pharbitidis Semen), draw river water, decoct, and swallow in three to five sips. Also take sixty pills of Ku Mo Wan (Bitter Powder Pill) the size of mustard seeds. By late afternoon, he vomited and purged simultaneously, expelling pus and blood. After vomiting/purging settled, give him a large cup of fresh well water. He urinated once or twice. That night he drank fresh water twenty to thirty times. The illness receded by nine-tenths, and he cried only once. The next day he lay sleepy like being drunk. From morning to evening, he suddenly got up, walked around, asked his mother for food, sang and laughed freely, instantly relieved of suffering. Then regulate with Tai Bai San (White Pearl Powder), Ba Zheng San (Eight Uprights Powder), etc. Greatly recovered in one day. Fearing improper care in summer, he stayed five days before returning. Dai Ren said: This is Lower Jiao constraint. Without vomiting/purging, how can the Lower Jiao open? Without drinking water, how can urine flow? Generally, if the source is clear, the stream is clear. (Ku Mo Wan details unknown.)

If the Bao (Uterus) transfers Heat to the Bladder, then Long (retention) and bloody urine occur. (Full text in Disease Transmission. Bao refers to the Female Uterus.)
[Su Wen] Bi Lun says: Bao Bi (Uterus Bi) involves inner pain in lower abdomen/Bladder upon pressing, feeling like pouring hot water, astringent urine, upper body clear nasal discharge. The Bladder is the Official of Storage, storing fluids; Qi transformation allows exit. Now Wind-Cold-Damp pathogens invade the Bao, Qi cannot transform, so Bao is full and water pathways blocked. Inner pain in lower abdomen/Bladder upon pressing, feeling like hot water, astringent urine. The Foot Taiyang Meridian goes straight up to vertex, enters brain, down to nose cavity, thus clear nasal discharge. Treat Bao Bi with urinary retention: Shen Zhuo Tang (Kidney Dampness Decoction) (Same as Qian Jin/Jianhe formulas).
