Original text from *Shanghan Lun*: In Shaoyin disease (a syndrome caused by pathogenic invasion of the Shaoyin meridians), occurring one or two days after onset, if the mouth feels normal and not bitter or dry, and there is aversion to cold in the back, moxibustion should be applied, and Fuzi Tang (Aconite Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Chen Xiuyuan stated: In this case, it is appropriate to apply moxibustion to the Gegan acupoints (located 3 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the 7th thoracic vertebra) bilaterally to rescue the Taiyang meridian (Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian) from cold; additionally, apply moxibustion to the Guanyuan acupoint (located on the anterior midline, 3 cun below the umbilicus) to assist the Yuan Yang Qi (Primal Yang Qi).
Where is Yuan Yang Qi stored? It is generally believed that the human body has two Qi Seas. The *Neijing* states that the area above the diaphragm is the Qi Sea, which is the postnatal Qi Sea, storing Zong Qi (Gathering Qi, also known as the Great Qi in the chest). Philosophers consider the area below the umbilicus as the Qi Sea, which is the prenatal Qi Sea, storing Zu Qi (Ancestral Qi), which is Yuan Qi (Primal Qi). The Yuan Yang of the human body takes Yuan Qi as its physical basis, while Yuan Qi takes Yuan Yang as its commander. Indeed, because it can rotate and govern the whole body, it is called Yuan Qi; because it can warm the whole body, it is called Yuan Yang. This Yuan Yang originates from the prenatal stage and is originally the Jun Huo (Monarch Fire) of the prenatal stage, assisted by the Xiang Huo (Minister Fire) of the Mingmen (Gate of Life, located between the two kidneys). (This differs from the concept where Heart Fire is the Monarch Fire and the Shaoyang Minister Fire lodged in the Liver is the Minister Fire, as there is a distinction between prenatal and postnatal here.) As for the physical structure of the Qi Sea in the lower jiao (Lower Burner), it was originally formed by the aggregation of adipose tissue and pancreatic substance, hollow in the center. What *Yilin Gaicuo* described as resembling an inverted chicken comb refers to this. At the beginning of fetal formation, this organ is generated first. From here, the Du Mai (Conception Vessel, governing all Yang meridians along the dorsal midline) grows downward, and the Ren Mai (Governing Vessel, governing all Yin meridians along the ventral midline) grows upward, thereby generating the whole body. Therefore, this location is of utmost importance and is truly the root of life and destiny. Some claim that Yuan Qi and Yuan Yang are stored in the Baoshi (Uterus/Womb). They do not realize that if the Baoshi develops sores and ulceration in women, it can be surgically removed. If it were indeed the place storing Yuan Qi and Yuan Yang, how could one dare to remove it?
Original text from *Shanghan Lun*: In Shaoyin disease, if there is body pain, coldness in the hands and feet, bone and joint pain, and a deep pulse (Chen Mai), Fuzi Tang (Aconite Decoction) should be administered.
[Fuzi Tang Formula] Pao Zhi (Processed) Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) two pieces, peeled, broken into eight slices; Fuling (Poria) two liang; Renshen (Ginseng Radix) two liang; Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) four liang; Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) three liang.
The above five herbs are boiled in eight sheng (approx. 1600 ml) of water until reduced to three sheng. Remove the dregs, and take one sheng warm per dose, three times daily.
