1. Huoluan (cholera-like disease) arises suddenly with rapid changes, characterized by severe pain in the heart and abdomen, accompanied by vomiting and diarrhea. If there is a desire to vomit but inability to do so, and a desire to defecate but inability to do so, it is called Gan Huoluan (Dry Cholera), also known as Jiaochang Sha (Intestine-Twisting Miasma). If the tongue curls up and tendons contract, or if the testes retract into the abdomen, the condition is critical and difficult to treat.
Common formulas: Huoxiang Zhengqi San (Agastache Powder for Rectifying the Qi), Erxiang Tang (Two Fragrances Decoction), Ganlu Yin (Sweet Dew Drink).
2. Huoluan is caused by the mixed invasion of pathogenic factors such as wind, cold, summer-heat, dampness, improper diet, and water retention, which disrupt the healthy Qi and cause turbid and clear Qi to interfere with each other, leading to severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. For cases involving wind-cold-dampness obstruction, Huoxiang Zhengqi San (composed of Agastae Herba, Perillae Folium, Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, Pinelliae Rhizoma, Poria, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Platycodi Radix, Arecae Pericarpium, and Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) can be used; if accompanied by tendon spasms (cramps), add Medlar Fructus and Evodiae Fructus; if caused by summer-heat with excessive sweating, combine with Elsholtziae Herba Decoction, named Erxiang Tang; if caused by dampness with excessive diarrhea, add Atractylodis Rhizoma; if summer-heat is extreme, use Cinnabar Liuyi San (Six-to-One Powder with Cinnabar), or Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) added with Gypsum Fibrosum, Talcum, and Halloysitum Rubrum, named Ganlu Yin; if cold is extreme with cold limbs and hidden pulse, use processed Chuanwu (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) and processed Fuzi (Aconiti Radix Preparata) combined with Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction).
1. Heat accumulation in the Three Yang channels consumes body fluids, causing dryness and blockage of the贲门 (cardia), 幽门 (pylorus), and 魄门 (anus). When the cardia cannot accept food, it is called Yige (Dysphagia); when the pylorus cannot expel food, it is called Fanwei (Regurgitation). These two conditions, if prolonged, narrow the intestinal transmission pathway, causing the anus to become dry and difficult to pass stool. If chest pain like stabbing, hard stools like sheep dung, spitting saliva, or hematemesis occur, the prognosis is poor and life is difficult to save.
Common formulas: Renshen Lige Wan (Ginseng Powder for Clearing the Diaphragm), Gongsu San (Mercury and Sulfur Powder).
2. For dryness-heat syndrome, use Shizhi Yin (Five-Juice Drink) to clear heat and moisten dryness, or Dahuang Tang (Rhubarb Decoction) to purge heat accumulation; for deficiency-cold syndrome, use Sizijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), or Lizhong Tang added with丁香 (Caryophylli Flos) and 沉香 (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) to warm and tonify the spleen and stomach; if constipation and obstruction are severe, first use Lige Wan (Diaphragm-Clearing Pill) to unblock the diaphragm; if vomiting persists, first use Gongsu San to stop regurgitation; for further regulation, use Xiao Chengqi Tang modified, or make pills with Ginseng Radix, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Agastae Herba, Areca Seed, Peach Kernel, Cannabis Fructus, and honey; Gongsu San should be prepared by grinding mercury and sulfur in a 1:2 ratio into black powder, taken with aged wine and ginger juice for immediate relief.
Common formulas: Sizijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), Erchen Tang (Two Aged Ingredients Decoction), Ersishiwu Liuqi Yin (Twenty-Four-Ingredient Qi-Flowing Drink).
3. For Qi deficiency, use Sizijunzi Tang to tonify Qi; for blood depletion, use Siwu Tang to nourish blood; for excessive phlegm, use Erchen Tang to resolve phlegm; for Qi stagnation, use Ersishiwu Liuqi Yin to promote Qi flow. Other treatment methods are the same as those for vomiting. Although this disease requires utmost mental effort and planning, one can only do one's best and await the will of Heaven.
