Pediatric food stagnation resulting from arbitrary eating manifests as warmth of the head, heat in the abdomen, purulent and sour-smelling stools, belching, anorexia, irritability, and thirst. Treatment requires careful assessment to determine whether Muxiang Da'an Wan (Aucklandia Great Peace Pill) or Xiao Chengqi Tang (Minor Order the Qi Decoction) is appropriate.
[Note]
Children who indulge in rich, sweet, fatty foods and raw/cold items may suffer from impaired spleen-stomach transportation and transformation, leading to accumulation and stagnation in the intestines and stomach.
Symptoms include warmth of the head, abdominal heat, sour-smelling loose stools, belching, aversion to food, restlessness with insomnia, dry mouth, and thirst.
For mild stagnation, Muxiang Da'an Wan (Aucklandia Great Peace Pill) is indicated to promote digestion and guide out stagnation.
For severe stagnation accompanied by constipation, Xiao Chengqi Tang (Minor Order the Qi Decoction) is indicated to purge and descend.
(Muxiang Da'an Wan [Aucklandia Great Peace Pill]) Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi), Atractodis Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Fimo (Baizhu, stir-fried with soil), Immature Bitter Orange (Zhishi, stir-fried with bran), Hawthorn Fruit Flesh (Shanzha Rou), each 3 qian; Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao), 2 qian, heart removed; Fermented Soybean Curd (Shenqu), stir-fried; Malto (Maiya), each 3 qian, stir-fried; Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Sharen), Raphani Semen (Laifuzi), each 2 qian, roasted.

Pi disease (masses in the hypochondrium) results from overeating causing fullness in the intestines and stomach, overflow of turbid fluids, and condensation due to cold pathogen invasion. Symptoms include tidal fever, preference for drinking cold water, emaciation, abdominal distension with hard masses, and a sallow complexion with bluish tints.
[Note]
Pi disease (masses in the hypochondrium) arises from unregulated diet causing excessive fullness in the intestines and stomach, overflow of turbid juices, and subsequent condensation upon exposure to cold pathogens.
It typically occurs below the left hypochondrium, initially resembling a chicken egg, hardening into a mass, and gradually expanding like an inverted basin. If it extends beyond the umbilicus, it becomes difficult to treat.
Clinical manifestations include tidal fever, desire to drink cold water, emaciated skin and muscles, and a complexion that is yellowish with bluish hues. Physicians should examine these signs carefully.
Pi disease (masses in the hypochondrium) presenting with tidal fever, thirst with preference for cold drinks, abdominal distension with visible subcutaneous veins, hardness, and pain can be treated effectively internally with Xiaopi Muxiang Wan (Eliminate Masses Aucklandia Pill) and externally with Honghua Gao (Safflower Ointment).
[Note]
At the onset of Pi disease (masses in the hypochondrium), there is afternoon tidal fever, thirst with preference for cold drinks, abdominal distension with prominent subcutaneous veins.
The condition progresses to hardness and mass formation, with intermittent pain.
Internally, Qianjin Xiaopi Wan (Thousand Gold Eliminate Masses Pill) is used; externally, Honghua Gao (Safflower Ointment) is applied. Treating both internally and externally will resolve the mass.
If there is no fever or thirst, begin treatment with Muxiang Wan (Aucklandia Pill), and apply Honghua Gao (Safflower Ointment) externally.
