Food-induced Epilepsy (Shi Xian) results from excessive food intake causing accumulation in the Zhongwan (CV12), leading to sudden phlegm-heat hyperactivity. Symptoms include a sallow complexion, abdominal distension, vomiting, and diarrhea with foul odor. The treatment should employ Miaosheng Dan (Miraculous Sage Pill) to purge stubborn phlegm and harmonize the Stomach, thereby stabilizing the condition.
[Note]
Food-induced epilepsy is located in the Spleen. It arises when infants or children consume excessive milk and food, causing stagnation and knotting in the Zhongwan (CV12). Taking advantage of a momentary hyperactivity of phlegm-heat, epilepsy develops. Initially, there is a sallow complexion and abdominal distension, with vomiting and diarrhea having a sour, foul odor. Later, it transforms into frequent convulsions. It is appropriate to use Miaosheng Dan (Miraculous Sage Pill) as the primary treatment. If phlegm is particularly abundant, Zhu Yi Gun Tan Wan (Cinnabar-Coated Rolling Phlegm Pill) should be used primarily. Subsequently, Qing Re He Wei Wan (Clear Heat and Harmonize Stomach Pill) should be used for regulation. Thus, the food stagnation will be cleared, and the convulsive epilepsy will subside.
(Miaosheng Dan [Miraculous Sage Pill]) Xiong Huang (Realgar), Xie Shao (Scorpion Tail), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar), Dai Zhe Shi (Hematite) each 2 qian (calcined and quenched in vinegar), Ba Dou (Croton Seed) 3 seeds (oil removed), Xing Ren (Apricot Seed) 2 qian (stir-fried, skin and tips removed). Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Form pills using steamed jujube pulp, sized like wu tong seeds. Take 3 to 5 pills per dose, dissolved and taken with decoction of Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root).

Wind-induced Epilepsy (Feng Xian) occurs when wind pathogens invade the meridians due to undressing while sweating. Symptoms include blue-dark eyes, a pale red face, and fingers flexing and extending as if counting objects. Treatment involves Huafeng Dan (Wind-Transforming Pill), utilizing Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Root) and Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis) for efficacy.
[Note]
Wind-induced epilepsy happens because after sweating, one removes clothing, causing the Cou Li (pores and interstices) to open, allowing wind pathogens to enter through the gaps. During an attack, the eyes appear blue and the face red, and the hands move as if counting. The treatment method should first focus on dispersing wind and releasing the exterior. For mild cases, Huafeng Dan (Wind-Transforming Pill) is used primarily; for severe cases, Qiang Huo Gui Zhi Tang (Notopterygium and Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is used primarily. If wind is combined with phlegm, Niu Huang Wan (Calculus Bovis Pill) is used primarily.
(Huafeng Dan [Wind-Transforming Pill]) Dan Xing (Arisaema Cum Bile) 2 qian, Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Root), Du Huo (Angelica Pubescens Root), Tian Ma (Gastrodia Rhizome), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Licorice Root), Jing Jie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike), Ren Shen (Ginseng Root), Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) each 1 qian. Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Form pills using refined honey, sized like soap pods. Take 1 pill per dose, dissolved and taken with Bo He Tang (Mint Decoction).
(Qiang Huo Gui Zhi Tang [Notopterygium and Cinnamon Twig Decoction]) Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Root), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), Ma Huang (Ephedra Stem), Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig), Tian Ma (Gastrodia Rhizome), Da Huang (Rhubarb Root), Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Licorice Root). Use fresh ginger water as the solvent for decoction and take orally.
(Verse Formula) Qiang Huo Gui Zhi Tang treats Wind-induced Epilepsy; its ability to disperse wind and purge heat is hard to fully describe. It contains Qiang Huo, Fang Feng, Ma Huang, Gui Zhi, Tian Ma, and Gan Cao. When decocted with Da Huang, recovery occurs naturally.
(Niu Huang Wan [Calculus Bovis Pill]) Dan Xing (Arisaema Cum Bile), Quan Xie (Whole Scorpion, detoxified), Chan Tui (Cicada Slough) each 1.5 qian, Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis), Sheng Bai Fu Zi (Prepared Typhonii Rhizome), Chao Jiang Can (Stir-fried Bombyx Batryticatus), Tian Ma (Gastrodia Rhizome) each 1.5 qian, She Xiang (Musk) 0.5 fen. Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Boil jujubes, remove pits and skins, take the pulp, and mix with the powder to form pills sized like mung beans. Take 3 to 5 pills per dose, dissolved and taken with Sheng Jiang Tang (Fresh Ginger Decoction).
