[Verse] Chi Ni (Tooth Decay with Worms): Small worms grow inside the teeth. This is caused by the condensation of blood stasis, dampness, wind, and fire in the Stomach Meridian. Bad breath is solely due to excessive Stomach Fire, leading to rotting of the tooth roots, bleeding, and pus discharge.
[Commentary] This syndrome involves worms growing in the gingival flesh, formed by the condensation of blood stasis, dampness, wind, and fire in the Stomach Meridian. The tooth roots swell, ache, and rot, occasionally discharging pus and blood. If bad breath is severe, it is caused by extreme Stomach Fire attacking upwards. It is appropriate to take Yu Chi San (Jade Pool Powder). For external use, take one bunch of Setaria italica (Millet) with stems, thirty slices of bitter bottle gourd (Cucurbita ficifolia), washed clean. Cut the millet stems into two-cun lengths, wrap them in five small packets using the gourd leaves, each packet one cun wide and five fen thick. Soak them in three-year-old aged vinegar. At noon, take two packets, roast them in fire until hot, place them in the mouth to warm the exterior of the teeth, and replace them when they cool. Place the packets in water, unwrap, and inspect; immediately, worms about three fen long will appear. Older worms are yellow, newer ones are white. The efficacy is miraculous.
Formula: Yu Chi San (Jade Pool Powder)
Composition: Angelicae Radix (Danggui), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Buxi Cortex (Digupi), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Asari Radix (Xixin), Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (Gaoben), Sophorae Flos (Huaihua). Three slices of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Fresh Ginger), thirty black soybeans (Heidou). Decoct in water, strain, and hold in the mouth while warm; spit out when cold. If this formula is decocted and taken internally, the effect is even better.
[Verse] Yu Chi San: Disperses wind to treat dental caries; holding in the mouth or taking internally is excellent for salivary issues, pus, root rot. Ingredients include Danggui, Baizhi, Shengma, Fangfeng, Gancao, Digupi, Chuanxiong, Xixin, Jiang (Ginger), Dou (Soybean), Huaihua.
[Verse] Chi Qu (Dental Caries): Wind-heat pathogenic factors lodge in the Yangming Meridians, causing gingival swelling, pain, and discharge of foul-smelling pus. Pain worsens upon exposure to wind; over time, the gums recede exposing the teeth. Placing a "White Horse Hanging Hoof" (Baima Xuanti) into the cavity is very effective.
[Commentary] This syndrome is caused by wind-heat pathogenic factors lodging in the Hand and Foot Yangming Meridians. Initially, the gums swell and hurt; pain intensifies with wind. Patients often make a sucking-in motion like a metal mouth. The gums develop rotting holes that discharge foul pus. Over time, the gums recede, exposing the teeth. Initially, it is appropriate to take Qing Wei Tang (Clear the Stomach Decoction) plus Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix). For external use, wrap a small amount of Baima Xuanti (equine hoof) in cotton and insert it into the pus cavity; this is very effective.
Another Formula: Qing Wei Tang (See Ya Nu section)
[Verse] Zi She Zhang (Purple Swollen Tongue): Belongs to excessive fire in the Heart Meridian. Excessive heat causes blood congestion, resulting in a swollen, hard, and painful tongue. When the tongue swells to fill the mouth, acupuncture is suitable. Purple blood color indicates severe condition; red indicates mild condition.
[Commentary] This syndrome is caused by excessive fire in the Heart Meridian and blood congestion, leading to the tongue swelling to fill the mouth, becoming hard and painful. It is appropriate to stick a needle onto the head of a chopstick, exposing the tip by about one fen. Prick the tongue dozens of times to allow blood to flow out. Red blood color indicates a mild condition; purple indicates a severe condition. Subsequently, rinse the mouth with warm water, apply Bing Peng San (Ice and Borax Powder) externally, and take Liang Ge San (Cool the Diaphragm Decoction) without Puxiao (Mirabilite) and Dahuang (Rhubarb), adding Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus) and Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), and doubling the dosage of Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus). Taking this is very effective.
