According to *Chan Jing* (Obstetric Canon): When women are pregnant, excessive consumption of salty foods may cause blockage of fetal qi.
Excessive consumption of bitter foods during pregnancy causes frequent fetal movement.
Excessive consumption of sweet foods during pregnancy leads to weak connection between fetal bones and the mother.
Excessive consumption of sour foods during pregnancy results in incomplete muscle development of the fetus.
Excessive consumption of pungent foods during pregnancy causes the fetus's essence and soul to fail to remain secure.
Current examination indicates that there are eighty-two types of medicines that pregnant women should not take; their names are recorded in *Chan Jing*.
According to *Bingyuan Lun* (Treatise on Pathogenesis and Symptoms of Various Diseases): Patients with Ezu disease (morning sickness) experience mental restlessness, heavy head and dizzy eyes, and heavy limbs; they feel lethargic and unwilling to work, dislike the smell of food, desire sour fruits, sleep much and rise little. The world calls this "aversion to food," also referred to as "Ezi" (aversion character). In severe cases, extending beyond three or four months, vomiting is so intense that self-control is lost. This arises because the woman was originally weak and emaciated, with insufficient Qi and Blood, and weak Kidney Qi, compounded by excessive exposure to wind and cold. There is phlegm-fluid retention in the epigastrium, which combines with pregnancy. Since the menstrual blood has ceased, water fluids soak into the Zang organs, causing organ Qi to stagnate; thus, mental restlessness occurs, and rebellious Qi leads to vomiting. If blood vessels are unblocked and meridians are obstructed and stagnant, limbs become heavy; if combined with Wind, headache and dizziness occur. Thus, when one intends to conceive but suffers from Ezu disease, "intending to conceive" refers to the state where menstruation has not yet arrived. Although complexion and skin appear normal, the person suffers from heaviness and mental oppression, lacks appetite, and does not know the source of the ailment. When the pulse becomes smooth and peaceful, this indicates impending conception. After two months, if menstruation ceases thereafter, pregnancy is established.
*Chan Jing* states: Banxia Fuling Tang (Pinellia and Poria Decoction) treats pregnancy-related obstruction disease, characterized by mental oppression, empty irritability, vomiting and rebellious Qi, aversion to food smells, heavy head, painful and heavy limbs and joints, excessive sleeping, aversion to cold, and sweating.
For extreme fatigue and sallow complexion:
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 5 liang), Shengjiang (Fresh Zingiberis Rhizoma, 5 liang), Fuling (Poria, 3 liang), Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos, 1 liang), Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 2 liang), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 2 liang), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, 2 liang), Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 3 liang), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang).
These twelve ingredients are boiled in ten dou of water until three sheng remain, divided into three doses. If the obstruction persists for days and months without cure, or if improper temperature of medication causes transformation into exogenous heat with irritability and thirst, and mouth ulcers, remove Jupi and Xixin, and add Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), each 2 liang. If it transforms into cold diarrhea, remove Dihuang and use Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 2 liang). If food intake is low, stomach deficiency generates heat, constipation occurs, and urine is scanty and red, add Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 3 liang), remove Dihuang, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang), and take one dose according to the formula. After evacuation, observe changes in Qi, strength, and temperature, adjust the prescription accordingly, and take another dose. If Yang urgency arises, immediately administer Fuling Wan (Poria Pill) to restore appetite and strengthen the body. (*Duanju Fang* agrees with this.)
*Duanju Fang* states: Fuling Wan (Poria Pill) treats pregnancy-related obstruction disease, characterized by mental oppression, heavy head and dizziness, aversion to food smells, vomiting and chest stuffiness, alternating sensations, and flaccid heat in the limbs. It is ineffective to hold on; taking this pill brings immediate relief. One must first take two doses of Banxia Fuling Tang, followed by Fuling Wan.
Fuling (Poria, 1 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 2 liang), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 2 liang), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparata, 2 liang), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 2 liang), Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 2 liang), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 2 liang), Gegen (Puerariae Radix, 1 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang).
These ten ingredients are crushed, sifted, and mixed with honey to form pills the size of white mustard seeds. Take twenty pills with warm water, gradually increasing to thirty pills, three times daily. *Chan Jing* agrees with this.
*Jiyan Fang* (Collected Effective Prescriptions) states: For treating pregnancy at two or three months with Ezu vomiting and inability to eat:
Qingzhuru (Green Bamboo Shavings, 3 liang), Shengjiang (Fresh Zingiberis Rhizoma, 4 liang), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 5 liang), Fuling (Poria, 4 liang), Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 3 liang).
These five ingredients are sliced and boiled in six sheng of water until two and a half sheng remain, divided into three doses.
It further states: Jupi Tang (Citrus Peel Decoction) for treating pregnancy vomiting and inability to eat:
Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 3 liang), Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam, 3 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 3 liang), Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 3 liang), Shengjiang (Fresh Zingiberis Rhizoma, 4 liang), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 2 liang).
These six ingredients are sliced and boiled in seven sheng of water until two and a half sheng remain, divided into three doses.
*Seng Shen Fang* (Monk Shen's Prescription) states: To treat women with pregnancy Ezu, sensation of vinegar/coldness in the chest and heart, abdominal pain, inability to eat, and frequent vomiting of green-yellow fluid:
Use Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparata), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma).
These three ingredients are used in equal parts, ground into powder, and mixed with Rehmannia juice to form pills the size of white mustard seeds. Take three pills per dose, three times daily. Current examination notes: *Jiyao Fang* states: Each part 8 fen, slightly increased to 10 pills. *Chan Jing* states: Renshen Wan is a divine and excellent prescription.
*Yimen Fang* states: For all pregnancy obstruction diseases with food aversion, allow the patient to eat whatever they crave; this will surely lead to recovery. (Current check: *Yanling Tu* states: This makes the child intelligent, virtuous, and upright.)
