If fever occurs after taking stone medicine, Zi Tang (Substance Decoction) will cure it.
When the drug reaction causes discomfort in the four limbs, with vexation and heat in the hands and feet, and mental restlessness, apply cold stones for hot compresses. For severe cases, use water for compresses. If joints are stiff and unable to flex or extend, and all bones and joints ache, engage in diligent self-labor and exercise; bathe when feeling warm.
If the drug reaction causes chills and rigidity (Jin Han), although bathing is indicated, if bathed too early, the drug-heat may be suppressed and unable to disperse, leading to chills and rigidity. In this case, immediately drink alcohol and engage in diligent self-labor; the body will gradually become warm. If bathed too late, the steaming drug-heat may confuse the mind and also cause chills and rigidity. First drink alcohol; once the qi of the alcohol circulates, then pour water over the body; the body will also gradually become warm. One should eat frequently, up to ten times a day. Failure to eat leads to suffering from cold.
For miscellaneous symptoms caused by the drug reaction, such as pain on one side, vexation on one side, coldness on one side, heat on one side, spasm on one side, or flaccidity on one side, wash the affected areas accordingly. This should be done under running water to remove the pathogen.
If there are swollen nodules, apply cold stones for hot compresses; if not cured, apply ice for compresses.
*Shi Huiyi · Xie Shilang Bathing and Compress Relief Method* states: Whenever the reaction to mineral drugs occurs, bathing is suitable, and bathing brings relief. The method of bathing: If initially cold, first use cold water, then use raw and cooked water (water of different temperatures). If initially hot, first use warm water, then use cold water. When bathing, be careful not to wash the head first; if you wish to wash your hair, pour two or three sheng of water over it.
If there is constipation of both stool and urine, or dribbling urination with blood, and pain in the genitalia, this is caused by heat qi; applying compresses will lead to recovery. The method of compresses: First use cold objects to compress the lower abdomen; after cold compression, use hot objects to compress the anterior genital area. After hot compression, perform cold compression again. Additionally, frequent urination is also caused by excessive exposure to cold; waiting for the body to warm up will lead to natural recovery.
*Dao Hong Dissolution Method* states: For reactions caused by eating filthy rice, rotten meat, stale soup, or leftover vegetables, take Zhizi Tang (Gardenia Decoction).
For reactions caused by eating uncooked rice or raw wine, take Damai (Hordeum vulgare), five he per dose; if not relieved after three doses, take Nie Mi (unhusked rice or specific grain), one sheng.
For reactions caused by excessive consumption of meat, if taking Damai as above does not relieve it, take Nie Mo (powdered grain); if Nie Mo does not relieve it, take Zhizi Chi Tang (Gardenia and Fermented Soybean Decoction).
For reactions caused by eating raw vegetables, take Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction); for reactions caused by eating coarse rice, take Gancao Tang. (Coarse rice refers to rice that has not been finely chewed or processed.)
For reactions caused by overeating, take Gancao Tang as described above. For reactions caused by hunger due to missed meals, take Congbai Chi Tang (Scallion White and Fermented Soybean Decoction).
For reactions caused by drunkenness, take Congbai Chi Tang; if not relieved, take Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction).
For reactions caused by excessive anger, take Renshen Tang (Ginseng Decoction).
For reactions caused by excessive exposure to cold, which often presents as high fever, first bathe with seven or eight sheng of cold water, then pour five or six shi of raw and cooked water over the body. After pouring, eat a small amount of warm food, drink a small amount of hot wine, and walk to induce fatigue; this will bring relief. If not relieved, take Zhizi Tang again.
For reactions caused by excessive exposure to heat, which often presents with chest oppression, take Huangqin Tang (Scutellaria Decoction). (Note: The above decoctions are found in Volume 20.)
*Xie Shilang Supplemental Elixir Method* states: Within one to two hundred days after taking stone elixirs, one must consume fine foods and good wine to ensure the smooth flow of blood vessels.
If one feels weak, consuming certain supplements can strengthen the sinews and bones and quench thirst.
If one feels intense heat, take Zixue (Purple Snow), Jinshi Ling (Mineral Ice), Jiangxue (Crimson Snow), or Baixue (White Snow), etc. (Among these emergency remedies, Zixue is the best. If purgation is not possible, take Huangqin Yin (Scutellaria Drink); relief comes with brisk defecation.)
If one feels abnormal body sensations without pain or itching, and with dark, scanty urination, squeeze juice from Maogen (Imperata cylindrica root) and drink it freely.
If the mouth is dry, squeeze juice from Ganshe (Sugarcane) and drink it freely. If unable to eat, take Sanwu Shengjiang Jian (Three-Ingredient Fresh Ginger Decoction). If unable to eat, and the body is weak with lack of energy, one must eat fresh crucian carp sashimi (Kuai).
If sores and swellings occur, take Wuxiang Liaoqiao Tang (Five-Spice Forsythia Decoction), etc., and avoid fish, pork, garlic, and raw vegetables. (Note: Wuxiang Liaoqiao Tang is found in *Duanju*, Chapter 10, treating malignant nodules.)
If the swelling has a root, is hard as iron or stone, and has a reddish hue, take herbal decoctions and moxa cones of small size on the swelling; one or two cones are ideal.
*KTYang Gongcao Fan Qu Lun* states: The original formula says: If one feels confused or bi obstruction, bathing is suitable. For those who are emaciated or cannot withstand large-volume bathing, wash thoroughly only at the sites where the drug moves; other parts not affected by the drug cannot tolerate water. If bathing the whole body is comfortable and not cold, especially using ice water, pour it specifically. For areas on the abdomen and back that do not tolerate water, place wet hand towels; they become easier to manage when warm. One may wear half-sleeves and remove the crotch section. It is not desirable to let the abdomen get cold; covering with thin reed mats or thin blankets is sufficient. Although cold food is recommended, if one desires newly cooked rice, splash it with cold water to cool it. If unable to cook immediately, first pour hot water over the rice, let it cool, then splash with cold water. For solid accumulations, first take Xiaoshi Da Wan (Niter Large Pills) to purge, then take powders. Many people are emaciated, and purging methods are feared. (Note: Xiaoshi Da Wan is mentioned in Chapter 10 under the category of masses.)
