The *Treatise on the Pathogenesis of Various Diseases* states: Improper daily care leads to a struggle between cold and heat. The potency of mineral drugs (Shi Yao) fails to disperse, allowing pathogenic heat to invade and overwhelm the Zang organs, thereby causing vexation and oppression.
The "Sanjie Gancao Tang" (Decoction for Resolving and Dispersing Licorice) from *Seng Shen Fang* treats unresolved vexation caused by the dispersion of mineral drug toxicity:
Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1.5 liang), Fuling (Poria, 1 liang), Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, 1 liang).
These three herbs are boiled in 3 sheng of water until 1.5 sheng remains. Divide into three doses. (Note: *Duanju Fang* prescribes: Gancao 2 liang, Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) 2 liang, Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) 2 liang, boiled in 5 sheng of water until 2 sheng remains. Divide into three doses.)
Zhang Zhongjing states: For treating vexation and an urge to vomit without success due to the dispersion of mineral drugs, use single-herb Gancao Tang:
Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 5 liang, sliced).
Boil in 5 sheng of water until 2 sheng remains. Take 1 sheng. Stop administration if vomiting occurs.
*Xinlu Fang* states: A method for treating vexation, heat, and oppression:
Qini (Radix Adenophorae or Radix Glehniae, sliced, 3 sheng).
Boil in 4 sheng of water until 2 sheng remains. Drink in divided doses.
Another prescription: Drink fresh Shengdihuang juice (Jus Radicis Rehmanniae Recens) alone, 2–3 sheng per day, which is beneficial.
Another prescription: Drinking 2–3 sheng of fresh Gegen juice (Jus Radicis Puerariae) is effective.
*Jiyao Fang* treats the onset of Rushi (Mineral Drugs), presenting with vexation, headache, alternating chills and fever, cold feet, and blocked Qi flow:
Congbai (Bulbus Allii Cepae, 14 stalks), Chi (Fermented Soybean, 2 large he), Niusu (Butyrum Bovis/Su, 1 liang).
Spread Congbai at the bottom of the pan, place Niusu on top of the Congbai, then cover with Chi. Simmer over low heat until the aroma of Niusu dissipates completely. Then add 1.5 sheng of good wine. After a while, strain the residue. Consume in one dose according to whether the patient's constitution is cold or hot, drinking as much as tolerated.
It also states: A method for treating vexation caused by Shi Fa (Mineral Drug Onset):
Huashi (Talcum, 12 fen, ground into fine powder, divided into two doses).
Mix Huashi powder with a large amount of water, stir well to disperse, and consume in one dose.
Huangfu Mi states: In cases of severe headache as if splitting, where taking medicine and food causes heat accumulation and stagnation (referred to as 'piao', meaning floating/accumulating), urgent purgation is required. Cao She states:
For severe dizziness and vertigo of the head and face, untie the hair knot on the head and fan to dissipate heat. If heat is severe, causing headache and redness of the face, pour cold water over the head. If there is no improvement, place a water-filled oil pouch within the hair knot on the head.
*Waitai Miyao* states: For headaches like stabbing and eyes feeling as if they will protrude, bathing in fragrant herbal decoctions is suitable. This should be done in a spacious, quiet room with appropriate temperature. First, pour the decoction over the Dazhui point and upper back points 30–50 times, then bathe. Avoid exposure to wind. After bathing, cover with a blanket and lie down quietly to induce sweating. Subsequently, consume Conggen Gegen Chizhou (Porridge of Onion Root, Kudzu Root, and Fermented Soybean).
Gegen (Radix Puerariae, 3 large handfuls), Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Secatus, 6 liang), Chi (Fermented Soybean, 3 he), Congbai (Bulbus Allii Cepae, 1 large handful), Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, a little), Jiaohua (Fructus Zanthoxyli, 15 grains).
First, boil Conggen (Radix Allii Macrostemonis) in 5 sheng of water until reduced by half, then remove the dregs. Add Gegen and Chi, boil until 2 sheng remains, remove dregs, and finely grind a small portion. Use this liquid to make a thin rice porridge, adding Congbai etc. Cook until steaming hot and drink. Afterward, cover with a blanket to induce sweating. Then, have a woman rub the body all over with rice powder and massage the acupoints. One may go outside only after about half a day, at which point the illness will heal.
