Huangfu Mi stated: In some cases, the joints are stiff and cannot flex or extend; after sitting for a long time, breathing stagnates without feeling vexed or fatigued. This is because the medicinal qi overcomes the healthy qi, knotting and failing to dissipate, becoming stagnant in the blood vessels. One should allow the body to warm itself naturally, then wash with cold water to recover. "Allowing the body to warm itself naturally" means engaging in movement and exertion so that fatigue in the feet generates warmth. This is not referring to warming by wearing thick clothes or staying near fire.
*Shi Huiyi* records: To treat cold rigors resembling sudden evil invasion (Zhong E), with cold hands and feet, opisthotonos, symptoms resembling wind disease, or alternating heat and cold that are hard to name. If cold precedes heat, wash the feet with two or three sheng of cold water, assisted by others. If heat precedes cold, wash with four or five sheng of mixed raw and cooked water. If one feels stiffness in the body, this indicates the pathogen is dispersing; immediately administer this decoction:
Gualou Gen (Trichosanthis Radix) [3 liang]
Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) [21 pieces, split]
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) [1 liang]
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [1 liang, honey-fried]
Xiangchi (Fermented Soybean) [1 sheng]
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) [3 liang, powdered]
Congye (Allii Fistulosi Folium) [3 liang]
These seven herbs are finely cut. Add eight sheng of water, boil to obtain two and a half sheng, and divide into three doses.
*Seng Shen Fang* records: To treat sudden death caused by pathogen dispersion, with body stiffness. Test if there is still faint breath by placing a hand above the mouth. If present, immediately have two people fetch water to pour and wash. Continue washing for two or three shichen until the deceased trembles. Once trembling occurs, support and drag the person to walk. After eating, rest and move again; walking for about half a day leads to recovery. This condition arises from improper medication dosage, resembling sudden evil invasion. The resolving formula is:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma)
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma)
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) [each 2 liang]
Chi [1 sheng]
Zhizi Ren (Gardeniae Semen) [14 seeds]
These five herbs are boiled in seven sheng of water to obtain three and a half sheng. Remove the dregs, add Chi, and boil again to obtain three sheng. Divide into three doses. Recently, using this decoction has proven effective.
*Bingyuan Lun* states: Drinking alcohol causes internal heat; taking mineral drugs adds further heat. Heat combats the Spleen and Stomach. The Spleen and Stomach belong to Earth, their color is yellow, and they manifest in the muscles. Accumulated heat knots and erupts on the skin, resulting in jaundice.
*Luyan Fang* treats pathogen dispersion or jaundice accompanied by feverish toxin, with hot air and vexation in the chest. Hu Ye Tang Formula:
Hu Ye (Euodiae Fructus Leaf) [one handful, cut]
This single herb is boiled in seven sheng of water to obtain two and a half sheng, divided into two doses. One dose brings recovery. It also treats jaundice caused by rapid breathing where one needs constant water to breathe. For such cases, boil the large stems and leaves strongly, and when the temperature is suitable, wash and soak oneself; this is particularly beneficial.
*Xinlu Fang* treats jaundice by crushing Xiancao (Acanthopanacis Cortex/Celery? Note: Cang'er usually refers to Xanthium, but context implies juice extraction. Standard translation for Cang'er is Xanthii Fructus, but here it says "juice", likely implying fresh plant material or specific preparation. Given "Cang'er", I will use Xanthii Fructus/Juice interpretation based on text "dao cang er qu zhi"). Crush Cang'er (Xanthii Fructus), extract the juice, take one sheng, once daily. (Note: Taking Zixue or Hongxue can remove accumulated heat.)
