Ren Shen (5 fen), Fu Ling (4 fen), Yan Hu Suo (7 fen), Chuan Lian Zi (stir-fried), Sheng Gan Cao (1 qian each), Chai Hu, Ze Xie, Dang Gui Shao, Hu Po (3 fen each).
Decoct with long-flowing water.
For insufficiency of Spleen Qi, causing dribbling urination with frequent residual drops not emptying, this formula is indicated.
The Classic states: "In robust individuals, disease heals when Qi flows freely; in the timid/weak, pathogenic factors adhere and cause disease." Therefore, those who overexert themselves sexually or are elderly and weak often suffer from this ailment. Tonification can address weakness, hence Ren Shen and Fu Ling are used. Slippery methods can remove adherence, hence Hu Po and Dang Gui Shao are used. Draining methods can remove obstruction, hence Ze Xie and Sheng Gan Cao are used. Chai Hu is employed to raise the sinking clear Yang. Yan Hu Suo and Chuan Lian Zi are used to pacify the excessive turbid Qi. Decocting with long-flowing water is chosen for its meaning of following the downward trend.
Narration: Jing Zhuo (turbid essence) is the fluid of the Kidney. The reason for Jing Zhuo lies in the Heart. Once the Heart moves, and the Tian Jun (Emperor Mind/Heart Spirit) becomes unstable, then Jing Zhuo will leak out. As stated, "If the Ruler is unclear, the Twelve Officials are in danger"; using such a state for health preservation is perilous. Thus, to nourish the body, one must first rectify the Heart. Now examining six famous formulas, they are merely external medicines. If one can rectify the Heart, that is the Great Elixir within our own body.
Gou Qi Zi, Jin Ying Zi, Shan Zha Rou, Shi Lian Rou, Lian Hua Xu, Shu Di Huang, Qian Shi Fen, Bai Fu Ling, Chuan Dang Gui (equal parts).
This formula is indicated for Jing Zhuo.
Jing Zhuo differs from Bian Zhuo. Bian Zhuo refers to turbid urine, i.e., the previously mentioned Gao Lin (paste-like strangury), which is caused by damp-heat in the Stomach seeping into the Bladder, having absolutely no relation to the Kidney Meridian. Jing Zhuo, however, involves sticky threads; even without urination, it occurs. This is due to insufficient Kidney Water, allowing Libido Fire to easily move, causing Essence to leave its proper position and thus slowly exude. Treatment should tonify the Kidney and clear the Heart, strengthen the Spleen and secure leakage. In this formula, Gou Qi Zi, Shu Di Huang, and Dang Gui have rich flavors and can nourish Yin; nourishing Yin is sufficient to control the Sunlight (deficient fire). Jin Ying Zi, Lian Xu, and Qian Shi have astringent flavors and can secure leakage, preventing loss. Shi Lian Rou is bitter and cold, capable of clearing the Heart; if the Heart is clear, libido fire does not blaze. Bai Fu Ling is sweet and neutral, capable of benefiting Earth (Spleen); benefiting Earth controls Kidney pathogens. Shan Zha Rou serves to eliminate obstacles in the Yin aspect.
