Shiwei (Pyrrosiae Folium, 石苇) [dehired] and Dongkuizi (Abutili Fructus, 冬葵子) each 2 liang, Qumai (Dianthi Herba, 瞿麦) 1 liang, Huashi (Talcum, 滑石) 5 liang, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, 车前子) 2 liang.
Take 3 qian per dose, twice daily.
This formula is indicated for Sand Lin (Sand Strangury), characterized by severe pain.
Sand Lin refers to the passage of sand-like stones in urine. This condition arises from fire scorching the Bladder, causing turbid yin to coagulate, resembling the process of boiling seawater to make salt. Agents with unblocking properties can remove stagnation; therefore, Shiwei and Qumai are used. Agents with lubricating properties can eliminate adhesion; therefore, Huashi, Cheqianzi, and Dongkuizi are used. Nevertheless, treating this condition requires abstaining from salt intake to achieve efficacy. There are two benefits to abstaining from salt: first, a bland taste promotes diuresis and leaching out dampness; second, without saltiness, stones do not form.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 黄芪) [roasted], Shilianrou (Nelumbinis Plumula, 石莲肉), Baifuling (Poria, 白茯苓), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 人参) each 7.5 fen, Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 炙甘草) 7.5 fen, Digupi (Lycii Cortex, 地骨皮) 7.5 fen, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩) [stir-fried] 7.5 fen, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, 车前子) 7.5 fen.
This formula is indicated for Lao Lin (Exhaustion Strangury).
When symptoms recur upon exertion, it is called Lao Lin. This occurs because the body is weak and cannot tolerate labor. However, each of the Five Zang organs has its own type of exhaustion. "Labor" implies movement; movement generates Yang heat, leading to internal heat. When internal heat transfers to the Bladder, it causes strangury and urinary retention. In this formula, Shilianrou clears Heart fire, Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 麦门冬) clears Lung heat, Huangqin clears Liver fire, Digupi drains Kidney heat, Huangqi, Renshen, Fuling (Poria, 茯苓), and Gancao (Licorice Root, 甘草) clear Spleen fire. All these serve to treat the latent heat caused by exhaustion of the Five Zang organs. Only the lubricating nature of Cheqianzi is employed to treat strangury and remove adhesion.
Huashi (Talcum, 滑石) 2 qian, Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 木通) 1 qian, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 当归) 1 qian, Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 木香) 1 qian, Yujin (Curcumae Radix, 郁金) [stir-fried] 1 qian, Bianxu (Polygoni Avicularis Herba, 萹蓄) 1 qian, Hupo (Amber, 琥珀) 1 qian.
This formula is indicated for Qi Lin (Qi Strangury), Xue Lin (Blood Strangury), Gao Lin (Chyluria/Cloudy Urine Strangury), and Sha Lin (Sand Strangury).
The lubricating property removes adhesion; therefore, Huashi and Hupo are used. The unblocking property eliminates stagnation; therefore, Mutong and Bianxu are used. Danggui is used for its blood-invigorating effect. Muxiang and Yujin are used for their qi-moving properties.
Only Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, 黄柏) is used, stir-fried until brown, and formed into pills.
This formula is indicated for Lin syndrome that recurs after sexual exhaustion.
Sexual overexhaustion depletes Kidney Yin (Kidney Water), allowing deficient fire to blaze independently, thereby scorching fluids and causing strangury. Huangbai is bitter and moistening; bitterness clears fire, while moistening nourishes water.
