[Platinum Pill]
Bai Fan (Alum, 3 liang) Yu Jin (Curcuma Aromatica Rhizome, 7 liang; authentic ones must be from Sichuan and resemble cicada abdomens).
Grind these two herbs into fine powder, mix with paste to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50-60 pills per dose, swallow with warm water.
*Ben Shi Fang* records: In the past, a woman suffered from diankuang shixin (mania and loss of heart-mind), which persisted for years without cure. Later, she met an expert who taught her this prescription. After the first dose, she felt as if something had fallen away from her chest and heart, and her spirit became refreshed. After the second dose, she was suddenly cured. The expert said: This disease arises from depression and sorrow; phlegm-saliva envelops the orifices of the Heart. This medicine can remove depressive phlegm. Wu Kun's commentary: Bai [Fan...]
[Jing Qi Pill]
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Bai Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Baihua She (Bungarus multicinctus), Juhong (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) (each half liang), Gan Ge (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (2 liang), Shexiang (Moschus) (5 fen), Naozhi (Borneolum Syntheticum) (2 fen), Zhusha (Cinnabaris) (1 qian, reserve a small amount for coating), Tiannanxing (Arisomatis Tuber) (soaked in ginger juice overnight), Zisuye (Perilla Folium) (each 1 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into powder, refine honey to make pills the size of longan fruits. Take one pill per dose, swallow with decoction of Yinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba).
*Ben Shi Fang* records: In the year Wuyin, a soldier in the army violated regulations. He was stripped naked and about to be punished when he was pardoned. His spirit instantly vanished, leaving him dazed like a fool. I gave him one pill. After taking it, he slept. Upon waking, his illness had disappeared. Tixia Zhang Zaiyang's wife suffered from shixin (loss of heart-mind) due to fleeing bandits for several years. I prescribed this formula, and she was cured before finishing the dosage. Also, Huang Yanqi's wife suffered from kuangjue (manic convulsion) for over ten years, and various physicians failed to treat it. I prescribed this formula, replacing Fuzi with Tie Fen (Ferrum Oxydatum Rubrum), and she was also cured before finishing the dosage. Wu Kun states: Jiangcan, Huashe, Tianma, and Nanxing can resolve wind-phlegm; Shexiang, Naozhi, Muxiang, and Chenpi can unblock the orifices of the zang-organs; Fuzi rectifies the primal Yang; Zhusha calms the spirit; Mahuang, Gan Ge, and Zisuye release the exterior and vent the qi of fright. Replacing Fuzi with Tie Fen is because metal controls wood, and the jue syndrome is attributed to rebellious Liver qi.

This substance is cold in nature, heavy in texture, and bright in appearance. Its coldness can overcome heat; its heaviness can anchor the Heart; its brightness can calm the spirit. Therefore, Ji Peng used it in liquid preparations to treat palace maids during the Kaiyuan era.
