Huashi (Talcum, 滑石) six qian, Gancao (Licorice Root, 甘草) one qian, Chi Fuling (Red Poria, 赤茯苓) one qian, Zhuling (Polyporus, 猪苓), Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome, 白术) stir-fried with soil, Zexie (Alisma Rhizome, 泽泻), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, 桂枝) five fen, Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel, 陈皮) one qian and five fen, Muxiang (Vladimiria Root, 木香), Binglang (Areca Seed, 槟榔) three fen.
Add fresh ginger for decoction; take five qian per dose.
Promoting urination is the method to solidify the Large Intestine, causing water from the Small Intestine to seep into the Bladder rather than enter the Large Intestine; thus, Rougui (Cinnamon Bark, 肉桂) in Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) is particularly effective.
Yinchen (Artemisia Capillaris Herba, 茵陈) six liang, Dahuang (Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma, 大黄) two liang soaked in wine, Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀子) fourteen pieces stir-fried.
For cases presenting with jaundice and obstruction of both stool and urine, use Dahuang; if bowel and bladder functions are normal, remove Dahuang and use Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 黄连); for Yin Jaundice caused by cold-dampness, hot-natured herbs should be added within the method of separating and draining dampness.
Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed, 车前子), Mutong (Akebia Caulis, 木通), Qumai (Dianthus Herba, 瞿麦), Pianchu (Polygonum Aviculare Herba, 萹蓄), Gancao Shao (Licorice Tip, 甘草梢), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀子) stir-fried until black, Huashi (Talcum, 滑石), Dahuang (Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma, 大黄).
Decoct with Dengcao (Juncus Medulla,
This formula is suitable for treating downward pouring of excess fire into the Small Intestine and Bladder. For constitutions with yin deficiency complicated by damp-fire, Dahuang should be removed, and Tiandong (Asparagus Tuber, 天冬), Danshen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza Radix et Rhizoma, 丹参), and Danpi (Moutan Cortex, 丹皮) should be added.
Chuan Bi Xie (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Rhizome, 川萆薢), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 石菖蒲), Wuyao (Lindera Root, 乌药), Yizhiren (Buckthorn Seed, 益智仁) in equal parts, Gancao Shao (Licorice Tip, 甘草梢) halved.
Add salt; take before meals.
All forms of Lin Syndrome (Stranguria, 淋症) arise from damp-heat, characterized by frequent urination, indicating kidney deficiency with heat. Treatment should involve clearing and draining while nourishing the Kidney. Warm and astringent herbs like Wuyao and Yizhiren act as contraindications that obstruct rather than clear. Interpreters claim this uses dispersing to restrict, which I do not accept.
Huashi (Talcum, 滑石) two qian, Hupo (Amber, 琥珀), Mutong (Akebia Caulis, 木通), Pianchu (Polygonum Aviculare Herba, 萹蓄), Muxiang (Vladimiria Root, 木香), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Radix, 当归), Yujin (Curcuma Longa Rhizome, 郁金) stir-fried one qian.
Grind into powder and take.
Heat from the Upper Jiao pours down into the Small Intestine and Bladder, confusing the essence pathway with the urinary pathway, resulting in Lin Syndrome. This formula adds a small amount of qi-moving herbs to the clearing and draining method to separate clear from turbid.
Fangji (Stephania Tetrandra Radix, 防己), Mutong (Akebia Caulis, 木通), Binglang (Areca Seed, 槟榔), Shengdi (Rehmannia Root, 生地) stir-fried with wine, Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 川芎) stir-fried, Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome, 白术) stir-fried, Cangzhu (Atractylodes Lancea Rhizome, 苍术) stir-fried with salt, Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, 黄柏) stir-fried with wine, Gancao Shao (Licorice Tip, 甘草梢), Xijiao (Rhino Horn, 犀角).
Take before meals.
Diseases caused by damp-heat should not be treated with tonification or purgation. This formula embodies the method of nourishing yin and cooling blood within spleen-strengthening and dampness-drying actions, which is most appropriate.
