Yinchen (prepared with wine) Qianghuo Fangfeng Shengma Gegen Cangzhu Baizhu Gancao (honey-fried) Huangqin (prepared with wine) Kushen (prepared with wine) Zhimu (prepared with wine) Danggui Zhuling Zexie
Take on an empty stomach.
Dispersing wind overcomes dampness; strengthening the spleen promotes the seepage of dampness; promoting urination facilitates the draining of dampness. When the dampness in the upper, middle, and lower Jiao (Sanjiao / Triple Burner) is completely eliminated, the heat will also dissipate, and the pain throughout the body will cease. This is a method where pain stops naturally without directly treating it.
Heiqianniu (Black Bean Vine Fruit) four liang Huixiang (Fennel) one liang (stir-fried)
Grind into powder. Take one qian each time, mixed with ginger juice.
This prescription is potent and harsh; it should not be used lightly.
Cangzhu (soaked in rice water) four qian Fangfeng two qian Fuling Baizhu Shaoyao one qian
Decoct with fresh ginger and Chinese jujube.
It merely raises yang and strengthens the spleen, causing turbid yin to transform naturally. The particular brilliance lies in not using Shengma, which is most appropriate.
Dihuang four jin Fuling twelve liang Renshen six liang Baimi (White Honey) two jin
First, decoct Dihuang to extract the juice, remove the dregs, add honey, and refine until thick. Then, grind Renshen and Fuling into powder, mix them together, seal in a porcelain jar, and boil in water for half a day. Dissolve in warm water before taking.
"Zao" (Dryness) refers to dryness and acridity, implying an inability to moisten. Yu Jiayan interpreted it as "Liang" (Cool), but I have discussed this in detail in *Yi Chun Sheng Yi*. Using formulas like Qiongyu Gao to moisten dryness is also a good strategy. Renshen and Dihuang tonify both qi and blood, generating metal and water mutually; adding Fuling calms the heart and strengthens earth, thereby allowing water to ascend and fire to descend, thus...
Gancao (honey-fried) four liang Shengjiang Guizhi three liang Renshen Ejiao (fried with clam powder) two liang Shengdihuang one jin Maidong (deveined) Mahren (crushed) half jin Dazao twelve pieces
Decoct with half water and half wine. Melt Ejiao separately and take with the decoction.
Some may doubt that the acrid-warm nature of Ginger and Cinnamon Twig is unsuitable for moistening dryness. However, they do not realize that this formula was originally established by Zhang Zhongjing for cases of Shanghan (Cold Damage) presenting with knotted or intermittent pulse due to lingering pathogenic factors. Therefore, warming dispersion and clearing moistening are conducted simultaneously. Once the external pathogens are cleared, the healthy qi awakens, and the blood vessels recover.
