治疗肺受风邪且伏热内蕴引起的头痛、咳嗽、鼻塞、声音沉重：
人参、荆芥、麻黄、细辛、桔梗、陈皮、半夏、杏仁、甘草。
用水两钟，生姜三片，大枣一枚，煎煮后服用。
治疗肺受虚热引起的长期咳嗽不止：
人参、阿胶、杏仁、桑白皮、地骨皮、知母、乌梅、粟壳（罂粟壳）、甘草。
用水两钟，生姜三片，大枣一枚，煎煮后服用。
治疗冷嗽（寒性咳嗽），吐痰沫：
半夏、陈皮、五味子、干姜、薄桂（肉桂）、杏仁、细辛、阿胶、甘草。
用水两钟，生姜三片，大枣一枚，煎煮后服用。
治疗火郁生痰，面赤、作嗽：
黄芩、海浮石、瓜蒌实、青黛、桔梗、甘草、半夏、青皮、炒栀子。
以上药物研为细末，炼蜜制成丸药，如梧桐子大小，每次服用六十丸，用姜汤送下。
治疗肺痿（此处指肺中痰浊积聚导致的咳嗽）：
人参、甘草、阿胶、茯苓、柴胡、五味子、贝母、杏仁、桔梗、枳实、桑白皮。
用水两钟，生姜三片，煎煮后服用。
治疗久咳以润肺为目的：
款冬花、人参、五味子、紫菀、桑白皮。
以上药物研为细末，蜂蜜制成丸药，如鸡头子大小，每次服用一丸，细细咀嚼后用姜汤送下。
治疗无痰咳嗽，长期不愈者：
贝母、桑白皮、五味子、甘草、知母、杏仁、款冬花。
生姜三片，煎煮后服用。
治疗久咳不止：
人参、款冬花、五味子、知母、贝母、粟壳（罂粟壳）、乌梅。
生姜三片，煎煮后服用。
治疗郁痰引起的喘咳不止：
贝母、杏仁、青黛。
以上药物研为细末，蜂蜜制成丸药，如弹子大小，每次含化一丸。
附：肺痿、肺痈
咳嗽有浊痰且带有腥气，或者咳唾中有红丝、脓血者，称为肺痿，这是因为热邪在上焦。如果口中干燥、咳嗽，胸中隐隐作痛，称为肺痈，这是因为咳嗽损伤了肺叶所致。

Take two zhong of water, three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), one Zao (Jujubae Fructus), decoct and take.
To treat headache, cough, nasal congestion, and heavy voice due to Lung affected by Wind pathogen with latent heat:
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Take two zhong of water, three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), one Zao (Jujubae Fructus), decoct and take.
To treat prolonged cough not stopping due to Lung affected by deficiency heat:
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Sangbai (Mori Cortex), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Wumei (Mume Fructus), Suke (Papaveris Pericarpium), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Take two zhong of water, three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), one Zao (Jujubae Fructus), decoct and take.
To treat cold cough with expectoration of frothy sputum:
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Bo Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Take two zhong of water, three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), one Zao (Jujubae Fructus), decoct and take.
To treat cough due to fire stagnation generating phlegm, with red face:
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Haishi (Flos Calcitae), Guashui (Trichosanthis Fructus), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chao Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus Praeparatus).
Grind the above into fine powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take sixty pills per dose, delivered with Ginger Decoction.
To treat cough due to Phlegm in Lung:
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Fuling (Poria), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus), Sangbai (Mori Cortex).
Take two zhong of water, three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct and take.
To moisten the Lung for prolonged cough:
Kudonghua (Dodecatheonis Flore), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Ziwan (Asteli Radix), Sangbai (Mori Cortex).
Grind the above into fine powder, mix with honey to make pills the size of a cock's spur. Take one pill per dose, chew thoroughly and deliver with Ginger Decoction.
To treat chronic cough without phlegm that does not heal:
Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Sangbai (Mori Cortex), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Kudonghua (Dodecatheonis Flore).
Three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct and take.
To treat prolonged cough not stopping:
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Kudonghua (Dodecatheonis Flore), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Suke (Papaveris Pericarpium), Wumei (Mume Fructus).
Three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct and take.
To treat incessant wheezing and cough due to stagnant phlegm:
Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis).
Grind the above into fine powder, mix with honey to make pills the size of a bullet. Hold one pill in the mouth to dissolve slowly.
Appendix: Fei Wei (Lung Flaccidity) and Fei Yong (Lung Abscess)
Cough with turbid sputum having a fishy odor, or expectoration containing red threads, pus, and blood is named Fei Wei (Lung Flaccidity); this is caused by Heat in the Upper Jiao. If there is dryness in the mouth, cough, and dull pain in the chest, it is named Fei Yong (Lung Abscess); this is caused by damage to the lung tissue due to severe coughing.
