Treats various qi disorders, where qi rebels upward to the heart and chest, causing a sensation of impact or stabbing pain in the chest and hypochondrium, and irregular menstruation. (Women are prone to melancholy, thus qi diseases are common; qi stagnation leads to blood stasis.)
*Xiangfu* (Radix Cyperi, 8 qian), *Wuyao* (Rhizoma Linderae, 2 qian), *Chenpi* (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), *Suye* (Folium Perillae, 1 qian), *Ganjiang* (Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum, 5 fen). Take 5-6 qian per dose, decoct with water.
This prescription acts on the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. *Wuyao* and *Chenpi* specifically enter the Qi aspect to regulate qi, while *Xiangfu* and *Zisu* can enter the Blood aspect to move qi. Guided by *Ganjiang*, the medicinal power enters both the Qi and Blood aspects. Utilizing the acrid-warm nature of these herbs to resolve depression and disperse liver qi, allowing qi to be regulated and blood to harmonize, menstruation will occur regularly, naturally eliminating pain and obstruction.
(From Yan Shi's Formulas)
Treats conditions in women where qi is excessive relative to blood, generating various syndromes, including dizziness and fullness in the diaphragm/chest area. (Generally, when human qi and blood are in harmony, no diseases arise; if blood is deficient and qi is excessive, qi becomes obstructed in the chest...)
*Xiangfu* (Radix Cyperi, 4 liang), *Chenpi* (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 2 liang), *Fushen* (Sclerotium Poriae Cum Radix, 1 liang, honey-fried). Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose.
This prescription acts on the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. The Classic states: "For those that are high, suppress them." *Xiangfu* can dissipate stagnant qi, *Chenpi* can regulate various qi movements, *Fushen* can calm the mind spirit, and Gan...
(Wang Ang's Note: When qi is excessive relative to blood, it is indeed appropriate to suppress qi. However, overuse of qi-moving drugs will consume true qi, cause yin-cold water to become more prevalent, and result in dual deficiency of qi and blood. This formula is mild and suitable for regular use; alternatively, using blood-nourishing drugs to sufficiency yin-blood will naturally pacify yang-fire. This is also a method of direct treatment, i.e., supplementing insufficiency...)
(From Zhang Zihe's Formulas)
Treats leukorrhea with red and white discharge. (Leukorrhea arises from injury by wind, cold, dampness, and heat. Pathogens enter the uterus, or the meridians, flowing into the zang-fu organs, leading to yin deficiency and yang exhaustion. Ying-qi fails to ascend, Wei-qi sinks downward, stagnating in the lower jiao and extraordinary vessels. It is named after the Dai Mai (Belt Vessel), hence called "Dai". Red corresponds to blood, white corresponds to qi. The consistency resembles mucus, flowing continuously downwards. "Dai" also describes the shape of the disease. Some cases are due to damp-heat stagnating in the lower jiao; some due to liver-kidney yin deficiency with dampness predominance; some due to fright causing wood overacting on earth, leading to turbid fluid flowing downward; some due to endless thoughts resulting in white seminal emission-like discharge; some due to damp-heat from other meridians stagnating below the lower abdomen. Although the root causes differ, all are related to qi...)
*Chupi* (Cortex Ailanthi, 1.5 liang), *Baishao* (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 5 qian), *Liangjiang* (Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum, charred black), *Huangbai* (Cortex Phellodendri, charred black, 3 qian). Make pills with rice gruel. Take with rice water.
This prescription acts on the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Chen Laizhang said: *Chupi* is bitter and drying for dampness, cold in nature to overcome heat, and astringent to secure the lower jiao. Therefore, for red and white leukorrhea caused by damp-heat, it is used as the Sovereign herb (Ancient formulas include *Cangbai Chupi Wan*, *Qinbai Chupi Wan*, *Qinzhu Chupi Wan*, etc., adding herbs such as *Xiangfu*, *Chuanxiong*, *Danggui*, *Baishao*, *Ganjiang*, *Baizhi*, *Tian Nanxing*, and *Banxia* according to the syndrome); The sour taste of *Baishao* astringes yin qi and secures downward leakage, serving as the Minister herb; The hot nature of *Liangjiang* disperses cold-dampness; The cold nature of *Huangbai* dispels heat-dampness. All are charred black to stop bleeding and astringe...
