(From *Zhizhi Fang*)
Treats facial paralysis (facial deviation) caused by wind-stroke, where there are no other symptoms. (The Foot-Yangming Stomach meridian runs alongside the mouth and encircles the lips; the Foot-Taiyang Bladder meridian originates at the inner canthus of the eye. When Phlegm-Heat accumulates internally in the Yangming, and Wind invades externally from the Taiyang, it causes traction and tension leading to deviation. It is also said: When Wood energy is insufficient, Metal transformation shortens and attacks it. When Wood is attacked by Metal, Earth lacks its protective white aspect.)
Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Quanxie (Scorpio) (in equal parts). Grind into a fine powder. Take 2 qian each time, mixed with wine.
These are herbs acting on the Foot-Yangming and Foot-Jueyin meridians. Wu Hegao stated: Herbs such as Qiongji (Qiongzhu Ye) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) can expel external Wind, but they do not treat internally generated Wind (when the Liver has Heat, it generates Wind internally, which differs from externally contracted Wind); Xingren (Banxia) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) can resolve Damp-Phlegm, but they do not treat Phlegm due to Wind deficiency. These three herbs treat internally generated Wind and Phlegm arising from Deficient-Heat. With the guidance of wine, they can enter the meridians and correct the deviation of the mouth and eyes. It is further stated: Baifuzi's acridity dispels Wind (Baifuzi removes wandering Wind from the head and face); Jiangcan and Quanxie's salty flavor softens Phlegm (Jiangcan clears and transforms light floating pathogens, ascending to the head and face to disperse Wind and resolve Phlegm; Quanxie directly enters the Jueyin meridian and is an essential herb for treating Wind disorders; acrid herbs possess heat, so all acrid herbs are inherently hot). This allows the dispersal of Wind. Although Jiangcan and Quanxie are toxic, their toxicity can be used to break up nodules. The use of hot herbs to attack heat, or toxic herbs to attack toxicity, aligns with the principles discussed in the *Da Yi* (I Ching)...
Supplementary Prescription: Gairong Gao (Makeup Changing Ointment): Bimazi (Ricini Semen, 1 liang), Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum, 3 fen). Pound together into an ointment. In cold months, add Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 qian each).

Treats Gang-Jing (Stiff Spasm) and Rou-Jing (Flaccid Spasm), presenting with red face, neck stiffness, head tremors, and trismus (lockjaw). Opisthotonos (arching back like a bow), treated similarly to convulsions (Chizhi, referring to spasms). Jing disease occurs when Taiyang is affected by Wind and then re-infected by... Wind combined with Cold causes... continuous contraction and extension.
Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Wuyao (Linderae Radix). Decoct with fresh ginger. Administer with Ginger Juice (Jiangzhi) and Bamboo Sap (Zhuli). For Rou-Jing, add Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus); for Gang-Jing, add Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) and Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba); if trismus, teeth grinding, and constipation are present, add Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma).
These are herbs acting on the Foot-Taiyang and Foot-Jueyin meridians. Qianghuo, Fangfeng, Chuanxiong, Baizhi, Chaihu, and Gancao, being acrid and sweet, disperse Wind-Evil; Wuyao is used because treating Wind requires regulating Qi; Danggui and Shaoyao are used because treating Wind requires invigorating Blood first; Banxia, Zhuli, and Jiangzhi are used because Wind inevitably carries Phlegm; Huangqin is used because Wind inevitably generates...
