Treats excess-heat old phlegm. Various strange diseases (Excessive Wood wind overacts on Spleen Earth, causing Qi transformation to fail, leading to stagnation and phlegm accumulation, obstructing the Upper and Middle Jiao).
Qingmengshi (Lapis Aurichalci, 1 liang), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, 5 qian), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, steamed with wine), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 8 liang). First, crush Qingmengshi, and calcine it together with Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 1 liang) until smoke ceases. Form into pills. Take with ginger decoction. After taking the medicine, lie supine to allow the medicinal effect to remain in the chest and diaphragm, thereby clearing phlegm stagnation in the Upper Jiao. Avoid drinking water or moving about (Wang Ang notes: All medicines must first enter the Stomach before they can distribute throughout the body. If one claims that medicines for the diaphragm must act specifically on the diaphragm, then... descending with the downward flow, thus making it a holy medicine for promoting phlegm discharge). This is a formula for the Hand-Taiyin and Hand-Yangming meridians. Qingmengshi has a fierce nature capable of attacking chronic and latent phlegm accumulations; Dahuang sweeps away heat and removes excess, opening the pathway for downward drainage. However, this is a harsh formula and should not be lightly administered to those without strong constitutions (Wang Yinjun said: Phlegm syndromes have not been detailed in ancient or modern texts. Although formularies distinguish between Five Drinks and various types of fluid retention, the essence remains unknown... seemingly painful, expectoration, or strange states in dreams; or soreness and weakness in the ankles, sudden pain in the lower back and joints; or pain in the four limbs and bones/tendons, indescribable, with no fixed location, leading to numbness and pain in the arms, resembling Wind-Dampness; or a line-like cold sensation rising along the spine; or a prickling sensation all over the body as if lying on thorns; or sticky, wet, itchy eyes, mouth ulcers, tongue sores, throat bi-syndrome, etc.; or cervical lymphadenopathy resembling scrofula; or a sensation of two Qi streams knotting in the chest and abdomen, causing dyspnea and oppression, as if fire and smoke were rushing upward, with flushing of the head and face; or becoming manic-depressive epilepsy; or stroke-induced paralysis; or consumptive diseases lingering for a long time; or Hongkong foot (gout); or palpitations in the epigastrium, as if fearing capture by others; or wheezing, coughing, and vomiting; or vomiting cold saliva, green water, or black juice; even progressing to lung abscess, intestinal toxicity, purulent stools, contracture, and lameness; internal and external pathologies manifest in hundreds of ways, all caused by phlegm. The symptoms vary and cannot be fully described. Generally, when body fluids congeal into phlegm, they no longer circulate and moisten the Three Jiao, resulting in dry mouth and throat, constipation, a sallow complexion like dried bone, and scorched hair. In women, menstruation may cease due to this. If the foul phlegm can be expelled, natural efficacy from medication will follow. I have used Guntan Wan to cure countless diseases, which I specially transmit to the world).
Add Xuanmingfen (Mirabilite, 1 liang) to this formula, coated with Zhusha (Cinnabaris): treats the same conditions. Reduce Dahuang and Huangqin by 6 liang each from this formula, add Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum), each 2 liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma)... named...
