It is specifically used to treat alcohol accumulation, or vomiting, or diarrhea, chest and epigastric fullness and obstruction (pi-se), headache, and difficult urination. (Alcohol is extremely hot in nature and toxic, and it is brewed from water; therefore,) Ge Hua (Flos Fagopyri Dibrychii), Dou Kou (Fructus Cardamomi Rotundae), Sha Ren (Fructus Amomi), Mu Xiang (Radix Aucklandiae), Qing Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae - stir-fried), Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) are used. This formula acts on the Hand-Yangming and Foot-Yangming meridians. Excessive drinking without restraint causes damp-heat toxicity to accumulate in the intestines and stomach. Ge Hua enters the Yangming meridian exclusively, allowing the damp-heat to be resolved through the muscles. Dou Kou eliminates phlegm-dampness and tonifies Qi (Ren Shen tonifies Qi and is most effective in resolving alcohol toxicity. Li Dongyuan stated: Alcohol is extremely hot in nature and toxic, belonging to formless substances. To injure it, one should only induce sweating first, then promote diuresis secondarily, dispersing the dampness from above and below. Nowadays, some people make pills with alcohol and use extremely hot purgative drugs, or use Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) and Qian Niu Zi (Semen Pharbitidis) to purge. This injures the formless Yuan Qi and instead damages the formed Yin Blood. As Yin Blood becomes more deficient, Yang toxin becomes excessively hyperactive, Yuan Qi perishes, and deficiency diseases arise. Some argue that Ge Hua resolves alcohol and induces dispersion, which is inferior to Zhi Shi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus). Zhi Shi: also known as Ji Ju or Mi Mi, turns yellow-red after frost and tastes sweet; its leaves put into wine turn the wine into water; from *Yan Shi Ji Sheng Fang*).
It treats malaria that persists for a long time without healing, where a mass forms in the abdomen, named Nuomother (Nuomu) (Malaria persisting for a long time is termed Malaria, often forming masses under the left hypochondrium, named Nuomother, treated according to symptoms). Bie Jia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis - vinegar-fired), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae - earth-stir-fried), Huang Qi (Radix Astragali), Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba - wine-stir-fried), Bing Lang (Areca Seed), Cao Guo (Fructus Tsaoko - flour-roasted), Hou Po (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) are used. This formula acts on the Foot-Shaoyang, Foot-Jueyin, and Foot-Taiyin meridians. Chronic malaria must stem from Spleen deficiency. Bai Zhu tonifies Spleen Qi, Huang Qi tonifies Lung Qi, ensuring sufficient Qi for Spleen transportation, thereby enabling... then Yin... regulate Qi... Malaria.
A slippery pulse indicates Qi collapse. Collapse leads to scattering without retention. One must obtain sour and astringent herbs to converge the consumption and dispersion, so that what has erupted may return, and what has collapsed may be gathered.
