Treats Yangming disease syndrome, characterized by spontaneous sweating, free urination, and constipation. (This is stomach excess with spontaneous sweating, and urination is also profuse; this indicates exhaustion of body fluids internally, not heat accumulation with dryness. If purgatives are administered, fluids will be further depleted. Although the stool is hard, it should not be attacked with purgatives; external guiding methods are appropriate).
Honey. Use a copper vessel to simmer over low fire, stirring frequently to prevent burning. When it thickens like maltose syrup, shape it into suppositories, pointed at one end like a finger. Dip in a small amount of Gleditsiae Sinensis Powder, insert into the anus while warm, hold buttocks together with hands, and remove when defecation is desired. (A small amount of salt may also be added; salt can moisten dryness and soften hardness).
This is a medicine for the Hand-Yangming channel. Honey can moisten the intestines, heat can move qi, and Gleditsiae sinensis can open orifices. The Classics state: "When the exterior is resolved and there are no other symptoms, even if the stomach has excess, attacking with purgatives is contraindicated." Therefore, external guidance is used to unblock, avoiding bitter-cold herbs that might damage the stomach. (Xu Zhongke said: This is prescribed for those who have difficulty passing stool but suffer from no other discomfort. In cases of chest binding, fullness, or internal knotting...)
(Zhang Zhongjing)
The treated syndrome is the same as mentioned above.
Pig Gallbladder (one). Extract the juice, add a little vinegar. Use a bamboo tube three or four cun long, insert half into the anus, and pour the bile into the rectum. After a short while...
This is a medicine for the Hand-Yangming channel. Constipation belongs to dryness and heat. Spontaneous sweating indicates loss of body fluids, which should result in difficult urination. Now that urination is actually free, it shows that heat has not yet fully consolidated, so attacking with purgatives is contraindicated. Pig bile is cold to overcome heat, slippery to moisten dryness, and bitter to descend. Vinegar is sour and penetrates well, thus introducing the medicine into the large intestine to unblock it. (Those with exhausted body fluids should use honey guidance; those with abundant heat pathogens should use gallbladder guidance. For cold constipation, sliced preserved ginger can also guide stool. Haizang's method combines honey suppositories with salt, or with Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata powder...)
When the disease is in the exterior, diaphoresis and dispersal are appropriate; when the disease is in the interior, purging and clearing are appropriate. As for situations where the exterior syndrome is not yet resolved but the interior syndrome is urgent, Zhang Zhongjing established methods such as Da Chai Hu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction), Gegen Huangqin Huanglian Tang (Kudzu, Scutellaria, and Coptis Decoction), etc., treating both exterior and interior simultaneously. Later generations followed this principle, creating formulas such as Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikovia Universal Relief Powder), Rensu Yin (Ginseng and Perilla Infusion), and Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder). Therefore, collected...
