The treatment of wind-cold injury (Shangfeng) requires the selection of medications based on the differentiation of the Six Channels, which can be said to elucidate the fundamental principles and detailed applications of various schools of thought. For instance: for disorders of the Foot-Taiyang Channel, Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is used; for the Foot-Yangming Channel, Xingzi Tang (Apricot Seed Decoction) is used; for the Foot-Shaoyang Channel, Chaihu Jia Guizhi Tang (Bupleurum Plus Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is used; for the Foot-Taiyin Channel, Guizhi Shaoyao Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Peony Decoction) is used; for the Foot-Shaoyin Channel, Guifu Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Aconite Decoction) is used; and for the Foot-Jueyin Channel, Bawu Tang (Eight-Ingredient Decoction) is used. These formulas are all based on the three herbs of Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi), Ginger (Shengjiang), and Licorice Root (Gancao), with modifications added accordingly.
