西乡大孙巷孙妇年二十余，忽身热四肢作痛，日夜叫号。其叔祖友亮延先生治之，脉数而弦，此痛风也。暴痛属火，火性急故痛甚也。用鲜生地四两、与丹皮、络石藤、秦艽、丝瓜络等，一服而痛止。
南门外某姓肉店主，病尸厥七日，僵卧于床，口噤目瞪神呆。医用香开，又服制雄丹不效，均云疾不可为也。陈君子彦私淑先生有年矣，问法于先生，为拟一方，用牛黄、珠粉、牙皂、雄精、菖蒲等品，一剂神清能言，再剂而愈。自是陈君声誉遍传南地矣。
张雪梅小孙女，上下牙龈碎烂，此名牙疳，阳明之热走入牙床之络，当以大剂治之。磨犀角三分、生石膏一两五钱、生大黄三钱，丹皮三钱、知母三钱、丝瓜络三钱、人中黄一钱、鲜竹叶三十斤、芦根二两、升麻三分、绿豆三钱、鲜生地一两、荷叶一角，另赠以赤霜散加冰片、西黄，搽牙，服药后泄泻二次，腐肉去已见新肉。仍用清解之法，前方加川连、忍冬藤、黑山栀，去鲜地、升麻、竹叶、生军易熟军，外搽缘枣丹加冰片而愈。
乾德里二十号陈姓妇，分娩横生，小儿不能转身，稳婆脔割而下，已经二十余日，忽头痛如劈，日夜呼号，甚至发痉。先生诊之，两脉弦数，舌苔白腻，胸闷不畅，曰：此去血过多，风火上升，适值盛夏，又感暑热，恐其痛厥之变。用石决明、白芍、菊花、钩钩、藿梗、佩兰、蔻仁、佛手、荷叶、菖蒲诸味，一剂而痛大定，惟少有胸闷，再用芳香宣气化湿而愈。
西门外仓浜夏姓妇，久患目疾，黑珠溃烂，不能视物，将有伤明之势。先生开服羚羊、犀角、濂珠、元参、川连、鲜生地、谷精草等，外用真熊胆三分，清水化烊点眼，旬日而愈。
伍麟趾妇，产后病咳嗽，身软无力，医用肃肺去瘀等药，月余不效。先生诊之，脉细苔浊，按少腹膨胀而急。曰：此湿热成臌。用疏通分化之法，略见小效。仍觉腹痛，再用黑丑、沉香、木香、橼香皮、乌药、蔻仁等，四剂腹软而不得便，又用川朴、大黄畅下燥粪，少腹大软。逾数日因暑热内蕴，变为红痢。仍用大黄、黄芩、炙五谷虫、木香、银花炭等，两剂而痢止矣。此病变幻莫测，若专凭脉象，恐不足恃也。惟中书馆笔店杨某之母年八十，气血已亏，神倦目闭，脉数有力，舌质薄白，自觉心脏罅裂，气机下陷而不上升，大便不解，下唇起一小泡，手背作胀，服冰瓜而渴不解。先生曰：此心经有火，肠胃有实热也。用川连五分、生石膏七钱、连翘四钱、生山栀三钱、淡芩钱半、盐半夏二钱、辰滑石五钱、鲜荷叶一角、金银花露二两、鲜佛手钱半、全瓜蒌四锚、光杏仁二钱，此证先生与源同往，见其外状并无热象，亦不烦躁，惟下屑起泡，渴喜饮冷，故毅然而处此方，一剂竟霍然。
盛巷某在上海汽车行为伙，六月初忽起寒热，两日热退，顿时足软不能开步，足肚不红而胀，手指麻木不能直伸，回锡调治。先生用分利湿热之药略效，继用鸡鸣散加减，足肚作胀已减，自能行走，惟少力耳。又来诊治，舌红转为白腻，用温经通络之法，如桂枝、厚朴、桑枝、川断、金毛狗、脊木瓜、薏仁、松节、牛膝等，服后苔化，手指能伸，而大拇指仍然不用。先生曰：此阳明有热也。去桂、朴，加石膏，数剂后大指伸足力充，观此以见先生用药之活泼。
西村里谈正生出外小溺，返家骤然跌仆，两目斜视，神识不清，左手足不能行动，遗溺头痛，面油舌短，脉伏苔腻。先生诊之曰：此类中而兼伏热也。用至宝丹一粒，以竹沥六两调服，至天明神识较清，再用平肝熄风化痰，两目已不斜视，神情更觉清楚，脉有起色，舌苔灰黑而润，惟舌缩如故，再以芳香化湿消痰之剂，大转机，能食稀粥，惟左手足一时不能自如耳。
金小云校书素有烟癖，忽胸闷难过，面如油润，且兼青灰色，两足趾痛极，呼号，胸膺、亦然。先生曰：此湿遏伏热，下走经络也。用宣泄肺气，芳香化湿，两剂而油减，痛渐定，胸闷如故。用玉枢丹、石菖蒲研末服，佐以芳香等药，舌苔大化而转红色。先生曰：此湿化透热于外也。再用清泄之法而愈。
西乡某姓病湿温，神情迷糊，舌苔霉黑，脉伏，面色青滞，先生诊之，知为痰浊遏伏热邪。处方中有肥皂子三钱，值药肄无此物，与以牙皂，捣碎煎服，服后涕泪淋漓而神识遂清，舌苔亦化，病寻愈。此因误而得效，亦云巧矣。
老宝华照相店张竹君劳力之后，有人摄影，正在布置，自觉气机不舒，陡起呃逆，日夜连声不止已数日矣。身体疲软，来乞诊，先生曰：此痰热阻滞，气机不宣。为制刀豆、柿蒂等古法，随取白痧散与嗅，取嚏数十声，药方书毕而呃止矣。
市公所孙君，久与先生相知，盛暑过先生寓所，先生谓曰；曷不备白痧散两瓶以防不测，不独取嚏，且能化痰。旬日后，孙君夫人疾，势极垂危，不省人事，牙关紧闭气息奄奄，已为料理后事。忽忆及先生言，试取白痧散一瓶，撬齿灌之，顿吐痰数碗，稍觉苏省。廷先生诊治，半月吐顽痰无数，调治而愈。
先生之媳钱世嫂怀妊五月，病暑邪，壮热烦躁，扬手掷足，神识昏糊，目定直视，热时身如炭炙，赤身卧地者累日。不热则身冷如冰，面色青灰，人中掀起，舌苔黄掯而腻，腹中作痛，号呼不已。请诸道长诊视，均不敢立方。先生嘱极热时用井底泥贴其胸腹，泥为热沸，先服西瓜与薄荷绞汁数碗，继服川连、佩兰叶、黑山栀、连翘、子芩、郁金、菖蒲、鲜荷叶蒂、薄荷及牛黄清心丸，前后共透红白痦九次，枯皮满榻，西瓜汁共服二十余个，热势稍衰，尚难把握。先生子亦苏世兄私与服枳实槟榔丸三钱，恐病不起，而胎在腹中也。从此妊未足七月而呱呱堕地，产后又变为五色痢，日夜无度，七日不减。先生以为生机绝望矣。与服桃仁承气略见小效，并以鸦片灰泡汤服之，而痢渐稀，调理月余始安。先生之孙因母病在腹不长，十指刚及分科，藐小殊甚，以棉茧纸搓软代溺布，每日按钟点用小竹管吸乳汁滴口中，一月后稍能吮乳，但两目不开，至明年元旦张视，目光奕奕有神，数年中张师母培养周至，故身体颇为茁壮，颖悟过人，三岁能背诵明阳继盛先贤"男儿欲上凌烟阁，第一功名不爱钱"之句。

南门许海秋之媳从脐上至心下起一梗，粗如拇指，时时作痛。来诊适值酷暑，先生用附、桂、吴萸、干姜等味，不数剂而梗消。此系寒浊凝结所致，与古书所谓伏梁，寒热微有差别也。
老县前某妇，产前子痫，发痉欲死，两目直视，双手乱舞，舌出二寸，胎下不觉，势甚危殆。先生用童便一味，服三日而定，调理乃痊。
恒善堂祝某之室，畏多男，用药料堕胎，产后大寒战栗，卧床振动，难过异常，寒后发厥，汗出如雨，脉伏日定，危在顷刻。请先生诊治，谓曰：此气血交乱，阴阳错杂，寒之不可，温之不能，用药棘手。拟重用交加散加味，一剂而愈。
先生前在三里桥施诊局，来一江阴人，手提光粉一袋，时时取食，云不食则不安。诸医满座均莫识其证，先生曰：此虫证也，名曰石蛔，非使君等所能杀之。用雄精等而愈。
钱子才之女午十七岁，身躯矮小，一日呕出赤虫(虫类九种之一)，俨如精肉，长半寸许，其形如蝉，有目色黑，跳跃桌上。先生曰：此虫生于脾胃之间，由中脘气虚，饮食失宜湿热所生。丹溪有半月向上下之论，古法不外甘以诱之，苦以伏之，酸以软之，攻以逐之。就脉而论，细弱，便溏苔黄，过热非宜，姑标本同治。川连、吴萸、乌梅、川黄柏、白术、黄芪、甘草、芜荑、榧子、生矾、安胃丸，后再健脾胃兼杀虫之药而安。
东河头巷许奇孙之弟，年幼时患腹痛，面色萎黄，后患时疟，按之腹硬。先生初以为有积滞也，用枳实、槟榔、生大黄等，服后便下一物，状似小燕窝，螺纹盘旋，虫藏其中，大者长一二寸，小者寸许，约有数百条，从此痛止。始知是蛔结痛也。再用雷丸、芜荑、雄精、黄连、黄柏等药，数剂而愈。
陈妇寄居寺后门王姓宅后，年六十余，遍体肌肉生虱，不觉痛痒，每日席上不知凡计。先生诊之曰：此系湿热酿成，又年高气弱，正气不能化湿，湿蕴生虱。况脉细苔腻，非易治也。用人参须、薏仁、百部、雷丸、茅术等品，外用苦参、百部、黄柏、稀莶浓煎洗浴，其虱乃减。
某姓妇素有外痔，一日病暑热起伏，先生将伏邪治愈后，而痔发更甚，痛如刀割，卧床不起。视其痔大如茄，色灰黑，势将翻花，昼夜呼号，其家人欲舁入医院剖割而不果。先生开黄柏、龙胆草、淡芩、槐花、升麻苦寒之品，服数剂见效。再加制军、犀角、苦参、火麻仁、郁李仁，又服数剂，外用熊胆、冰片、蚌水、猪胆汁、西黄调敷，肿胀消而痛止。后用补中益气法，十余剂而收缩如常矣。至今数年未发，
东河头巷曹君年已花甲，气体丰腴，据云小便龟头翻花，小溲艰难，或云肾岩，或云徽疮，数年不效。后至医院将玉茎齐根割去，愈后回家，一二日左腿横痃大发，蔓延肿胀，且多脂水，肾囊下突生一梗，长约寸许，粗如小指头尖而微红。延先生诊视，曰：此刀割之后，湿毒未清，攻入海底之上，一时恐难消散。重用黄柏、泽泻，及赤猪苓、龙胆草、生薏仁、丹皮、淡芩、银花、甘草等，讵料二三剂后，其梗全消，横痃亦愈。
西门老县前谢姓妇年二十余，生女后久不育，每交媾阴户流血如注，含羞就诊。先生曰：此非气不固血，系君相之火过动，故肝不藏血也。拟濂珠、黄柏、黄连、白芍、乌梅、玄参、连翘、黑栀等，服之安然无恙。
荣姓妇阴户奇痒不堪，其夫述此求计于先生。先生用雄精、熊胆、明矾、川连等，研末成条，插入阴户，不逾时而痒止。此肝经湿热生虫，故苦燥杀虫之品立见奇效。闻先生之师马徵君亦用此方，已愈多人。
河埒口蒋姓遍发疮毒，体无完肤形神消瘦。先生偕门人邹致和同往，致和幼读医书，并在他处学习内外科五六年。始入房见其形状，惊而却走。先生用枯矾末数两，麻油调敷遍体，两星期而愈。继有黄泥桥薛姓子病遗精，北门王医用固涩补药十余剂，不独精不能固，遍体肿胀发疮，浓水淋漓，两手不能据箸，舌苔光绛。先生曰：此湿火灼阴也。用鲜首乌、黄柏、黄连、黄芩、丹皮等，外治同前法，浓疮即愈，遗精亦止。后见其人气体甚丰腴也。
光绪庚子秋，先生与凌君伯升明经赴沪，寓大东输船局，一日晚鲍君朗州以包车迎先生至棋盘街妓疗诊病，有妓头痛如劈，顷刻无停，呼号万状，甚至晕眩倾仆，诸医用平肝熄风不效。先生诊其脉洪舌绛，曰：此非肝阳，是毒火上炎也。下部阴处必碎烂无疑。始则隐讳，继以实情相告。因嘱其女佣以骨簪卷棉花拭去其腐，用西黄、熊胆、珠粉、猪胆汁调糊，少加冰片，灌入眼方，用犀角、鲜生地、银花、龙胆草、黄柏、生粉草、仙遗粮大剂，一帖而头眩止，再帖而头痛若失矣。又有一妓云肛门作痛，自觉发碎。诊之见肛门两边白腐如大拇指。先生曰：此泻毒未尽，留毒于肛旁，是名蝴蝶梅也。用大黄、犀角、川黄连、黄柏等服之，外糁银青散，数日而愈。
北栅口许某之孙年十四，面色黄瘦，小溲时带白腻，时常鼻塞似伤风状。他医诊之，服发散药。先生细审其鼻孔内，左有息肉甚大，右孔较小。先生曰：此见正元素亏，气虚湿热下注，是为膏淋。况风热上蒸于肺，鼻为肺窍，故息肉生焉。但息肉本可用冰蛳散点之，因许君子已早亡，只此一孙，未便用猛烈品，以老式冰片一味，研末点之，方用辛夷、白术、川萆薢、海金沙、黄柏、泽泻、桑白皮、黑山栀、桔梗等，逾数日又来诊视，左鼻息肉已缩小，呼吸顺利矣。录此后，先生谕源曰：临证宜细心详察，不可草率从事。此病本非奇异，惜皆未得要领，慎之。
水警厅第一队长合肥刘姓媳年十七岁，容貌雅秀，躯干不长，自结缡后，日渐瘦削，寒热咳嗽，饮食稀少，言语音低，经事不利，已五月矣。他医用肃肺之药不效。先生以为破瓜太早，有伤正元，此虚咳也。用黄芪、党参、归身、首乌、桂枝、白芍、鸡血藤、续断、甜杏仁，气血并补等品，出入两服而寒热退，咳嗽减，形容亦转丰腴。覆方加细生地、丹参、藏红花、月季花、阿胶、蜜炙马兜铃等，以通其月事。

张雪梅的小孙女，上下牙龈破碎腐烂，这叫牙疳，是阳明经的热邪侵入牙床的络脉所致，应当用大剂量药物治疗。磨犀角三分、生石膏一两五钱、生大黄三钱、丹皮三钱、知母三钱、丝瓜络三钱、人中黄一钱、鲜竹叶三十斤、芦根二两、升麻三分、绿豆三钱、鲜生地一两、荷叶一角，另外赠送赤霜散加冰片、西黄（麝香），涂抹牙齿，服药后腹泻两次，腐肉去除已见新肉生长。仍用清解之法，前方加川黄连、忍冬藤、黑山栀，去掉鲜生地、升麻、竹叶，生大黄改为熟大黄，外涂缘枣丹加冰片而痊愈。
乾德里二十号陈姓妇人，分娩时胎位横生，胎儿不能转身，稳婆切割而下，已经二十多天，忽然头痛如刀劈，日夜呼号，甚至发生痉挛抽搐。先生诊察，两脉弦数，舌苔白腻，胸闷不畅，说：这是失血过多，风火上升，正值盛夏，又感受暑热，恐怕会发生痛厥的变化。用石决明、白芍、菊花、钩藤、藿香梗、佩兰、蔻仁、佛手、荷叶、石菖蒲等药，一剂后疼痛大大缓解，只有少许胸闷，再用芳香宣气化湿法而痊愈。

钱子才之女午十七岁，身躯矮小，一日呕出赤虫（虫类九种之一），俨如精肉，长半寸许，其形如蝉，有目色黑，跳跃桌上。先生说：此虫生于脾胃之间，由中脘气虚，饮食失宜湿热所生。丹溪有半月向上下之论，古法不外甘以诱之，苦以伏之，酸以软之，攻以逐之。就脉而论，细弱，便溏苔黄，过热非宜，姑标本同治。川黄连、吴茱萸、乌梅、川黄柏、白术、黄芪、甘草、芜荑、榧子、生矾、安胃丸，后再健脾胃兼杀虫之药而安。
东河头巷许奇孙之弟，年幼时患腹痛，面色萎黄，后患时疟，按之腹硬。先生初以为有积滞也，用枳实、槟榔、生大黄等，服后便下一物，状似小燕窝，螺纹盘旋，虫藏其中，大者长一二寸，小者寸许，约有数百条，从此痛止。始知是蛔结痛也。再用雷丸、芜荑、雄精、黄连、黄柏等药，数剂而愈。
陈妇寄居寺后门王姓宅后，年六十余，遍体肌肉生虱，不觉痛痒，每日席上不知凡几。先生诊察说：这是湿热酿成，又年高气弱，正气不能化湿，湿蕴生虱。况脉细苔腻，非易治也。用人参须、薏仁、百部、雷丸、茅术等药，外用苦参、百部、黄柏、稀莶浓煎洗浴，其虱乃减。
某姓妇人素有外痔，一日病暑热起伏，先生将伏邪治愈后，而痔发更甚，痛如刀割，卧床不起。视其痔大如茄，色灰黑，势将翻花，昼夜呼号，其家人欲抬入医院剖割而未果。先生开黄柏、龙胆草、淡黄芩、槐花、升麻苦寒之品，服数剂见效。再加制大黄、犀角、苦参、火麻仁、郁李仁，又服数剂，外用熊胆、冰片、蚌水、猪胆汁、西黄调敷，肿胀消而痛止。后用补中益气法，十余剂而收缩如常矣。至今数年未发。
东河头巷曹君年已花甲，气体丰腴，据云小便龟头翻花，小溲艰难，或云肾岩，或云梅毒，数年不效。后至医院将玉茎齐根割去，愈后回家，一二日左腿横痃大发，蔓延肿胀，且多脂水，肾囊下突生一梗，长约寸许，粗如小指头尖而微红。延先生诊视，说：这是刀割之后，湿毒未清，攻入海底之上，一时恐难消散。重用黄柏、泽泻，及赤猪苓、龙胆草、生薏仁、丹皮、淡黄芩、银花、甘草等，岂料二三剂后，其梗全消，横痃亦愈。
西门老县前谢姓妇人年二十余，生女后久不育，每交媾阴户流血如注，含羞就诊。先生说：这不是气不固血，系君相之火过动，故肝不藏血也。拟珍珠、黄柏、黄连、白芍、乌梅、玄参、连翘、黑山栀等，服之安然无恙。
荣姓妇人阴户奇痒不堪，其夫述此求计于先生。先生用雄精、熊胆、明矾、川黄连等，研末成条，插入阴户，不逾时而痒止。这是肝经湿热生虫，故苦燥杀虫之品立见奇效。听说先生的老师马徵君亦用此方，已愈多人。
河埒口蒋姓遍发疮毒，体无完肤形神消瘦。先生偕门人邹致和同往，致和幼读医书，并在他处学习内外科五六年。始入房见其形状，惊而却走。先生用枯矾末数两，麻油调敷遍体，两星期而愈。继有黄泥桥薛姓子病遗精，北门王医用固涩补药十余剂，不独精不能固，遍体肿胀发疮，脓水淋漓，两手不能据箸，舌苔光绛。先生说：这是湿火灼阴也。用鲜首乌、黄柏、黄连、黄芩、丹皮等，外治同前法，脓疮即愈，遗精亦止。后见其人气体甚丰腴也。
光绪庚子秋，先生与凌君伯升明经赴沪，寓大东输船局，一日晚鲍君朗州以包车迎先生至棋盘街妓院诊病，有妓头痛如劈，顷刻无停，呼号万状，甚至晕眩倾仆，诸医用平肝熄风不效。先生诊其脉洪舌绛，说：这不是肝阳，是毒火上炎也。下部阴处必碎烂无疑。始则隐讳，继以实情相告。因嘱其女佣以骨簪卷棉花拭去其腐，用西黄、熊胆、珠粉、猪胆汁调糊，少加冰片，灌入眼中，用犀角、鲜生地、银花、龙胆草、黄柏、生甘草、仙遗粮大剂，一帖而头眩止，再帖而头痛若失矣。又有一妓云肛门作痛，自觉发碎。诊之见肛门两边白腐如大拇指。先生说：这是泻毒未尽，留毒于肛旁，是名蝴蝶梅也。用大黄、犀角、川黄连、黄柏等服之，外糁银青散，数日而愈。
北栅口许某之孙年十四，面色黄瘦，小溲时带白腻，时常鼻塞似伤风状。他医诊之，服发散药。先生细审其鼻孔内，左有息肉甚大，右孔较小。先生说：这是先天元素亏，气虚湿热下注，是为膏淋。况风热上蒸于肺，鼻为肺窍，故息肉生焉。但息肉本可用冰蛳散点之，因许君子已早亡，只此一孙，未便用猛烈品，以老式冰片一味，研末点之，方用辛夷、白术、川萆薢、海金沙、黄柏、泽泻、桑白皮、黑山栀、桔梗等，逾数日又来诊视，左鼻息肉已缩小，呼吸顺利矣。录此后，先生谕源曰：临证宜细心详察，不可草率从事。此病本非奇异，惜皆未得要领，慎之。
水警厅第一队长合肥刘姓媳年十七岁，容貌雅秀，躯干不长，自结婚后，日渐瘦削，寒热咳嗽，饮食稀少，言语音低，经事不利，已五月矣。他医用肃肺之药不效。先生以为是破瓜太早，有伤正元，此虚咳也。用黄芪、党参、归身、首乌、桂枝、白芍、鸡血藤、续断、甜杏仁，气血并补等品，出入两服而寒热退，咳嗽减，形容亦转丰腴。覆方加细生地、丹参、藏红花、月季花、阿胶、蜜炙马兜铃等，以通其月事。
Sun's wife in Dasun Alley, Xixiang, was in her early twenties when she suddenly developed fever and pain in all four limbs, crying out day and night. Fresh Rehmanniae Radix (Xi Shengdi) 4 liang was used, combined with Moutan Cortex (Danpi), Trachelospermi Caulis (Luoshiteng), Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao), and Luffae Fructus Retinervia (Sigualuo), among others. After one dose, the pain ceased.
A meat shop owner surnamed Mou south of the city gate suffered from corpse syncope (Shijue) for seven days. He lay stiff on the bed, with clenched jaws, staring eyes, and a dazed expression. Physicians used aromatic opening agents, and he also took processed Realgar Pill (Zhi Xiong Dan), but to no avail. All declared the disease incurable. Mr. Chen Zijian had admired the Master privately for years and asked him for treatment methods. The Master prescribed a formula containing Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang), Pearl Powder (Zhufen), Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina (Yazao), Realgar (Xiongjing), and Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Changpu), among other ingredients. After one dose, his spirit cleared and he could speak; after two doses, he recovered. From then on, Mr. Chen's reputation spread throughout the southern regions.

Minocycline Horn (Xijiao) 3 fen, Raw Gypsum Fibrosum (Sheng Shigao) 1 qian 5 qian, Raw Rheum Palmatum (Sheng Dahuang) 3 qian, Moutan Cortex (Danpi) 3 qian, Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu) 3 qian, Luffae Fructus Retinervia (Sigualuo) 3 qian, Human Excrement Soil (Renzhonghuang) 1 qian, Fresh Bamboo Leaves (Xian Zhuye) 30 jin, Phragmitis Rhizoma (Lugen) 2 liang, Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma) 3 fen, Mung Bean (Lvdou) 3 qian, Fresh Rehmanniae Radix (Xi Shengdi) 1 liang, and Lotus Leaf (Heye) 1 jiao were used. Additionally, Chishuang San mixed with Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian) and Moschus (Xihuang) was applied to the teeth. After taking the medicine, there were two episodes of diarrhea, the necrotic tissue fell off, and new flesh appeared. The clearing and resolving method was continued. The previous formula was modified by adding Coptidis Rhizoma (Chuanlian), Lonicerae Japonicae Caulis (Rendongteng), and Gardeniae Fructus (Heishanzhi); removing Fresh Rehmanniae Radix, Cimicifugae Rhizoma, and Bamboo Leaves; and replacing Raw Rheum Palmatum with Cooked Rheum Palmatum (Shujun). Externally, Yuansao Dan mixed with Borneolum Syntheticum was applied until recovery.

Shell of Hemimys (Shijueming), White Peony Root (Baishao), Chrysanthemi Flos (Juhua), Uncaria rhynchophylla (Gougou), Agasteghis Rhizome (Huogeng), Eupatorii Herba (Peilan), Amomi Fructus (Kouren), Bergamot Fruit (Foshou), Lotus Leaf (Heye), and Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Changpu) were used. After one dose, the pain was greatly stabilized, with only slight chest tightness remaining. Aromatic diffusing and transforming dampness method was used subsequently until recovery.
Mrs. Xia from Cangbang outside the West Gate suffered from chronic eye disease. The cornea ulcerated, causing blindness, with a trend towards total vision loss. The Master prescribed Antelope Horn (Lingyangjiao), Minocycline Horn (Xijiao), Pearl (Lianzhu), Scrophulariae Radix (Yuanshen), Coptidis Rhizoma (Chuanlian), Fresh Rehmanniae Radix (Xi Shengdi), and Evodiae Fructus (Gu Jingcao), among others. Externally, real Bear Gallbladder (Xiongdan) 3 fen was dissolved in clear water and instilled into the eyes. Recovery occurred within ten days.
Wu Linzhi's wife suffered from cough postpartum, with body weakness and fatigue. Physicians used lung-astringing and blood-stasis-resolving medicines for over a month without effect. The Master diagnosed a fine pulse and turbid tongue coating, with distension and urgency upon palpation of the lower abdomen. He stated: "This is distension caused by Damp-Heat." The method of dredging and differentiating was used, showing slight improvement. Abdominal pain persisted. Black Morning Glory Seed (Heiqiu), Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (Chenxiang), Costi Rhizome (Muxiang), Citron Peel (Yuanxiangpi), Lindera Root (Wuyao), and Amomi Fructus (Kouren) were used. After four doses, the abdomen softened but defecation did not occur. Magnolia Bark (Chuanpu) and Rheum Palmatum (Dahuang) were added to unblock dry feces, resulting in complete softening of the lower abdomen. Several days later, due to internal accumulation of Summerheat, red dysentery developed. Rheum Palmatum, Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Cooked Leech (Zhi Wugu Chong), Costi Rhizome, and Charred Honeysuckle Flower (Yinhua Tan) were used. Dysentery stopped after two doses. This case demonstrates that pathological changes are unpredictable; relying solely on pulse diagnosis is unreliable.
The mother of Mr. Yang from the Zhongshu Pavilion Pen Shop, aged eighty, had depleted Qi and Blood, listlessness, closed eyes, rapid and forceful pulse, thin white tongue coating. She felt a tearing sensation in the heart, sinking Qi mechanism that failed to rise, constipation, a small blister on the lower lip, and swelling of the back of the hand. Consumption of Ice Melon failed to relieve thirst. The Master stated: "There is Fire in the Heart Channel and Excess Heat in the Intestines and Stomach." Coptidis Rhizoma 5 fen, Raw Gypsum Fibrosum 7 qian, Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao) 4 qian, Raw Gardeniae Fructus 3 qian, Light Scutellariae Radix 1.5 qian, Salt-processed Pinelliae Rhizoma 2 qian, Chen Sha Turmeric (Chenshishi) 5 qian, Fresh Lotus Leaf 1 jiao, Honeysuckle Dew 2 liang, Fresh Bergamot 1.5 qian, Whole Trichosanthes Fruit (Quangualou) 4 pieces, and Apricot Kernel (Guang Xingren) 2 qian were prescribed. Accompanying Yuan to the patient, the Master observed no external heat signs or irritability, only the lower lip blister and preference for cold drinks. Thus, he boldly prescribed this formula, resulting in immediate recovery after one dose.
An employee of a Shanghai car dealership in Shexiang suddenly developed chills and fever in early June. Fever subsided after two days, followed by sudden leg weakness unable to walk. The calves were swollen but not red, and fingers were numb and unable to extend. He returned to Wuxi for treatment. The Master's damp-heat separating medicines showed slight effect. Subsequently, Jiming San was modified. Calves' swelling decreased, allowing independent walking, though strength remained low. On return visit, tongue turned from red to white greasy. Warm meridian and unblock collaterals method was used, including Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi), Magnolia Bark (Houpo), Mulberry Twig (Sangzhi), Dipsaci Radix (Chuanduan), Cynomorii Herba (Jinmaogou), Papaya (Jimu), Coix Seed (Yiren), Pine Joint (Songjie), and Achyranthes Root (Niuxi). Tongue coating transformed, fingers could extend, but the thumb remained unusable. The Master stated: "There is Heat in the Yangming channel." Cinnamon Twig and Magnolia Bark were removed, and Gypsum was added. After several doses, the thumb extended and leg strength returned, demonstrating the Master's flexible use of herbs.
Tan Zhengsheng from Xicun went out to urinate and suddenly collapsed upon returning. Eyes deviated, consciousness unclear, left hand and foot immobile, urinary incontinence, headache, oily face, short tongue, hidden pulse, greasy coating. The Master diagnosed: "Stroke-like syndrome accompanied by latent Heat." One pill of Zhibao Dan was taken, adjusted with 6 liang of Bamboo Juice (Zhuli). By dawn, consciousness improved. Liver-calming, wind-extinguishing, and phlegm-transforming medicines were used. Eye deviation resolved, spirit clearer, pulse improving, tongue coating gray-black and moist, but tongue retraction persisted. Aromatic damp-transforming and phlegm-resolving agent was used, leading to significant turnaround. He could eat congee, though left hand and foot remained temporarily immobile.
Jin Xiaoyun, a proofreader, had a smoking addiction. Suddenly experiencing chest oppression and discomfort, oily complexion with bluish-gray hue, extreme pain in toes, crying out, chest pain. The Master stated: "Dampness suppressing latent Heat, flowing down into collaterals." Lung Qi diffusing and aromatic damp-transforming method was used. After two doses, oiliness reduced, pain stabilized, but chest oppression persisted. Yushu Dan and Stone Acorus powder were taken, assisted by aromatic medicines. Tongue coating largely transformed to red. The Master stated: "Dampness transformed, Heat revealed externally." Clearing and draining method was used for recovery.
A patient from Xixiang suffered from Damp-Warmth disease, with confused spirit, moldy black tongue coating, hidden pulse, and blue-stagnant complexion. The Master diagnosed phlegm-turbidity suppressing latent Heat pathogen. Soap Nut (Feizaozi) 3 qian was in the prescription, but unavailable at the pharmacy. Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina (Yazao) was substituted, crushed and decocted. After ingestion, copious tears and mucus flowed, consciousness cleared, tongue coating transformed, and the illness healed. This success through error was considered clever.
Zhang Zhujun of Laobaohua Photography Shop, after labor, felt Qi mechanism discomfort while arranging for a photo session. Sudden hiccups started, continuous day and night for several days. Body weak, seeking diagnosis. The Master stated: "Phlegm-Heat obstruction, Qi mechanism not diffusing." Ancient method using Carob Bean (Daodou) and Date Pit (Shidi) was prepared. Baisha San was sniffed, inducing dozens of sneezes. Hiccups stopped as soon as the prescription was written.
Mr. Sun from the Municipal Office, long acquainted with the Master, visited during peak summer heat. The Master advised: "Why not prepare two bottles of Baisha San for emergencies? It induces sneezing and transforms phlegm." Ten days later, Mr. Sun's wife fell critically ill, unconscious, jaw locked, breathing faint, funeral arrangements made. Remembering the Master's words, they tried Baisha San, prying teeth open to administer it. She vomited bowls of phlegm and slightly revived. The Master was consulted. Over half a month, countless stubborn phlegm was vomited, and she recovered with regulation.
The Master's daughter-in-law, Sister Qian Shi, pregnant five months, contracted Summerheat pathogen. High fever, irritability, flailing limbs, confused spirit, fixed staring eyes, body hot as charcoal burning, lying naked on ground for days. When fever subsided, body cold as ice, blue-gray face, raised philtrum, yellow hard greasy tongue coating, abdominal pain, incessant crying. Many Daoist physicians refused to prescribe. The Master instructed applying mud from well bottom to chest and abdomen during extreme heat. Mud boiled from heat. First, watermelon juice mixed with Mint juice was drunk. Then Coptidis Rhizoma, Peilan Ye, Black Gardeniae, Forsythiae, Scutellariae Radix (Ziqin), Curcumae Radix (Yujin), Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, Fresh Lotus Leaf Peduncle, Mint, and Niuhuang Qingxin Wan were administered. Red and white miliaria erupted nine times, dead skin covered the bed. Over twenty watermelons' worth of juice was consumed. Heat slightly subsided, but prognosis uncertain. The Master's son, Yi Su, secretly gave 3 qian of Zhishi Binglang Wan, fearing death while fetus remained in womb. Child born prematurely before seven months. Postpartum, five-color dysentery developed, uncontrollable day and night for seven days. Master deemed survival hopeless. Tao Ren Cheng Qi Tang showed slight effect. Opium ash soup was given, dysentery gradually thinned. Regulation for over a month led to stability. The grandson, stunted in utero, tiny fingers, wrapped in cotton cocoon paper instead of diapers. Milk dripped via bamboo tube hourly. After one month, able to suckle slightly, eyes still closed. Opened eyes on New Year's Day next year, bright and spirited. Raised meticulously by Mrs. Zhang, grew strong and intelligent. At three years old, recited Ming Dynasty martyr Yang Jisheng's poem: "If a man wishes to ascend the Lingyan Pavilion, first he must not love wealth for fame."

Old County Front woman suffered pre-eclampsia (Zixian) before delivery, spasms nearing death, staring eyes, wild hand movements, tongue protruding two inches, unaware of fetal descent, critical condition. Master used fresh urine (Tongbian) alone. Taken for three days, stabilized, then recovered with regulation.
Wife of Zhu from Hengshan Hall feared many sons, used abortifacient drugs. Postpartum severe chills and tremors, shaking on bed, unbearable distress. Post-chill syncope, profuse sweating like rain, hidden pulse stabilizing daily, imminent death. Master diagnosed chaotic Qi and Blood, mixed Yin and Yang, difficult to treat with Cold or Warm methods. Heavy dose of Jiaojia San modified cured in one dose.
At Sanli Bridge Dispensary, a Jiangyin man carried a bag of "Light Powder," eating it frequently, claiming unease if not eaten. Physicians present did not recognize the syndrome. Master diagnosed worm syndrome, named Stone Ascaris (Shi Hui), resistant to typical anti-worm herbs like Qujusizi. Realgar (Xiongjing) cured it.
Qian Zicai's daughter, age seventeen, small stature, vomited a red worm (one of nine types), resembling lean meat, half cun long, cicada-shaped, black eyes, jumping on table. Master stated: Worms born between Spleen and Stomach, due to deficiency of Middle Jiao Qi, improper diet, and Damp-Heat generation. Danxi discussed upward/downward movement. Ancient methods: Sweet to lure, Bitter to subdue, Sour to soften, Attack to expel. Pulse fine/weak, loose stool, yellow coating, excess heat inappropriate. Treat root and branch simultaneously. Coptidis Rhizoma, Evodia, Smoked Plum (Wumei), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Astragali Radix (Huangqi), Licorice (Gancao), Melia Toosendan Fructus (Wuyi), Torrey Seed (Feizi), Raw Alum (Shengfan), and Anwei Wan were used. Later, Spleen-Stomach strengthening and anti-worm medicines ensured safety.
Brother of Xu Qisun from Donghetou Alley suffered abdominal pain in childhood, sallow complexion, later intermittent malaria, hard abdomen on palpation. Master initially suspected stagnation, used Zhishi, Binglang, Raw Rheum. Defecated an object resembling small swallow nest, spiral pattern, worms inside. Large ones 1-2 cun, small ones 1 cun, hundreds in number. Pain stopped. Diagnosed as Ascaris knot pain. Leiwan, Melia Toosendan Fructus, Realgar, Coptidis Rhizoma, Phellodendri Cortex cured it.
Mrs. Chen living behind Wang family house near Temple Back Door, over sixty, lice infesting whole body muscles, no pain/itch, countless daily. Master diagnosed Damp-Heat brewing, elderly Qi weak, righteous Qi unable to transform Dampness, Dampness breeding lice. Fine pulse, greasy coating, difficult to treat. Ginseng Rootlets (Renshenxu), Coix Seed, Stemona Root (Baibu), Leiwan, Atractylodis Rhizoma (Maozhu) used. Externally, Sophora Root (Kushen), Stemona Root, Phellodendri Cortex, Siegesbeckiae Herba (Xixian) decocted for bathing. Lice reduced.
Woman with chronic external hemorrhoids suffered Summerheat flare-up. After Master cleared latent pathogen, hemorrhoids worsened, cutting pain, bedridden. Hemorrhoid egg-sized, gray-black, threatening to evert, crying day and night. Family wanted hospital surgery but didn't proceed. Master prescribed Phellodendri Cortex, Gentianae Radix (Longdancao), Light Scutellariae Radix, Sophorae Flos (Huaihua), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma) - bitter/cold herbs. Few doses effective. Added Processed Rheum, Minocycline Horn, Sophora Root, Hemp Seed (Huomaren), Prunus Semen (Yuliren). Externally, Bear Gallbladder, Borneolum Syntheticum, Clam Water, Pig Gallbladder, Moschus applied. Swelling subsided, pain stopped. Bu Zhong Yi Qi method shrunk it to normal after ten doses. No recurrence for years.
Mr. Cao from Donghetou Alley, sixty years old, robust physique. Reported glans penis eversion, difficult urination. Diagnosed as Kidney Rock or Syphilis, ineffective for years.
