The treatment principles are the same as those for bovine plague.
Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and Pu Xiao (Natrii Sulfas), each 5 qian, are decocted together to make a liquid. After pouring out, wait until it is warm, and administer via bamboo tube enema; recovery will follow immediately. Alternatively: Guan Zhong (Cyrtomii Rhizoma) 3 liang and Zhu Ya Zao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina) 2 liang are added to three or four bowls of water, boiled for thirty to forty times, then San Pu Xiao (Natrii Sulfas Powder) 3 liang is added. Boil for two or three more times, wait until warm, and administer orally; this is also effective. The methods for treating ovine plague can also be applied.
For pigs suffering from illness, cutting off the tip of the tail to allow blood to flow out will lead to spontaneous recovery.
Sheepskin (Ovis Aries Skin) is burnt to ash, mixed with porridge, and fed to the pig; immediate recovery occurs.
Dogs suffering from this disease will lose hair and emit a foul odor. Use: Da Wu Gong (Scolopendra Subspinipes mutilans L. Koch) one whole specimen, mixed into rice and fed to the dog; recovery occurs shortly. Alternatively: Liu Huang (Sulfur) is inserted into the pig's intestine and fed; this is particularly effective.
If a dog dies from falls or blows, burying it in the earth immediately will allow it to revive after a certain period.
Rubbing the entire body thoroughly with Xiang You (Sesame Oil) leads to recovery.
For cats suffering from various diseases, Wu Yao (Linderae Radix) is ground into water and administered orally; recovery follows.
Decoct Bai Bu (Stemonae Radix) to make a liquid and apply it all over the affected area; this is extremely effective. Applying the method used for treating dogs is also extremely effective.
In urgent cases, Su Mu (Sappanwood) is decocted to wash the wound, or administered warm orally; gradual recovery ensues naturally.
Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) 2 qian is administered warm via oral gavage using urine from an uncircumcised boy; bowel movement occurs spontaneously.
Administering Xiang Ma You (Sesame Oil) orally leads to recovery.
Feed Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus) several seeds, sliced small; recovery follows after one episode of diarrhea. Alternatively, mix Lu Dou Fen (Vigna Radiata Powder) with water to form strips and feed; recovery occurs after several doses.
Take the black vein on the left wing, pierce it with a needle to release dark blood, and feed with rice and oil; recovery follows.
Pigs that have been castrated become calm and docile, and their development is easier. The best seasons for this procedure are spring and autumn. The methods for castrating male and female pigs are described below:
(1) Method for castrating male pigs: For male pigs under forty-two days old, incision can be made at the bottom of the scrotum. Remove the testicles and cut the spermatic cords. If the pig is older than forty-two days, tie the spermatic cord at the wound site with thread. For pigs older than two or three years, bind the four legs first. One person presses down on the whole body, while another holds the scrotum with the left hand and uses a knife with the right hand to cut open from below the sac, remove the testicles, and cut the cords. Immediately press the wound closed with two fingers to facilitate healing. Another method: tightly ligate the scrotum with wax thread to obstruct blood flow; after several days, the scrotum and testicles will naturally fall off. However, this method cannot be used for pigs under forty-two days old. The operation must be swift; otherwise, swelling and pain may occur. If the thread is too thick, not tied tightly enough, or if part of the testicle is caught by the thread, harm may result.
(2) Method for castrating female pigs: One or two persons press the pig onto its left side to immobilize it. The operator makes an incision in the flank with a knife, gently extrudes the right ovary and oviduct ("sheng chang"), ties them off securely, and quickly cuts them with a blunt knife. Alternatively, tear off the reproductive organs manually, return any connected tissues to their original position within the abdomen, suture the wound, and apply a little oil. Perform the same procedure on the left side. Once the surgery is complete, release the pig.
