One qian of Iron Powder (Qieyun, 铁粉), one fen of Calomel (Lufen, 轻粉), and a small amount of Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香).
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Use a needle to prick a cross shape on the lesion, apply the medicine into the wound, mix with vinegar and wheat paste to apply externally; it is extremely effective.
Red-line Ding (Hongxian Ding, 红线疔) belongs to the category of Heart Ding (Xin Ding, 心疔). Its appearance resembles threads winding around the body. If it occurs on the hands or feet, the toxin entering the heart will cause death. It is advisable to use a pine needle to prick and drain the blood, and avoid eating hot-natured foods. Alternatively, use:
Roots and leaves of Chrysanthemum indicum (Baijuhua Genye, 白菊花根叶), about one qian of Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄), and two land snails (Yanyou, 蜒蚰).
Pound them together until extremely fine. Apply from the head of the ding to the end of the red line. Wrap tightly with silk strips; as the swelling subsides, the condition will resolve.
Furthermore, if this ding occurs on the foot, it spreads to the umbilicus; if on the hand, it spreads to the heart; if on the lips or face, it spreads to the throat. All these cases are fatal. Urgently use a needle or the edge of porcelain to pierce the end of the red thread to allow bleeding. Chew Pilea nummulariifolia (Fuping, 浮萍) and apply to the pierced site. Pound Alum (Baifan, 白矾) into powder, wrap it in pounded scallion white flesh (about three qian), and swallow it. Then drink one or two cups of scallion wine, cover with a blanket, lie quietly, and recover upon sweating.
When farmers spread manure on the ground and it is steamed by the scorching sun, people walking barefoot on it may be infected by the heat-toxin. This causes swelling and pain in the toes, resembling an ulcer but not fully ruptured. Immediately wash the area with decoction made from duck feathers combined with Ferrous Sulfate (Zaofan, 皂矾); it heals immediately.
The head of the ding resembles a leek leaf, one to two cun long, with a purple-black color. Pricking with needles is contraindicated. Urgently use:
Three qian of Alum (Mingfan, 明矾) (ground into powder), and seven stalks of Scallion White (Congbai, 葱白) (pounded).
Divide into seven doses. Take each dose with warm wine. After ingestion, lie down and cover with blankets to induce sweating. If no sweat occurs, consume more scallion white. Externally apply dilute chicken feces. Delayed treatment is incurable.
In the early stage, there is headache, aversion to cold, and fever. Red spots appear on the anterior chest and posterior back, resembling rashes. It is advisable to first prick them with needles to extract wool-like fibers. Then, take three qian of Alum powder, wrap tightly in blue cloth, dip in warm wine, and rub the skin around the anterior chest sore (one to two cun away from the lesion). Gradually, the pore opens, and the "wool" migrates to the back. Rub the posterior back using the same method to extract the wool onto the cloth, then bury it in the soil. Internally, use:
One liang of Violae Herba (Zihua Diding, 紫花地丁), three liang of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (Jinyinhua, 金银花), three qian of Alum (Baifan, 白矾), and three qian of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草).
Decoct in water and take orally.
