To treat dim and blurred vision with unclear sight. (This is an empirical formula from Supervisor Wu Ma'er.)
Calamina (Ludongshi, 炉甘石) (ground) Hematite (Daizheshi, 代赭石) (quenched seven times in vinegar, then ground) Minium (Huandan, 黄丹) (each 4 liang, processed by water levigation) White honey (Baisha mi, 白沙蜜) (8 ounces)
First, grind the two stones into extremely fine powder, then mix with Minium. Refine the honey in a copper pot to remove white foam, add five or six bowls of water, bring to a boil, then add the decocted medicine. Simmer using alternating mild and strong heat. When taking one bowl's worth, stir with a copper vessel. Test by dripping the medicine into water; when it sinks, the consistency is correct, and the fire may be removed. Filter through four layers of layered paper after boiling, store in a clean porcelain container, seal tightly to prevent dust from entering, which might cause eyelid swelling upon application. If eyes are dim and blurred, frequent application yields results.
To treat dim and blurred vision.
Well salt (Jing yan, 井盐) (5 qian, substitute with green salt if unavailable) Chebula fruit (Hezi, 诃子) (one, pitted) Coptis rhizome (Huanglian, 黄连) (fibers removed, 5 qian) Cuttlefish bone (Wzeiyu gu, 乌贼鱼骨) (2.5 qian, shell removed) Minium (Huandan, 黄丹) (3 liang, processed by water levigation)
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Take ten liang of good honey, boil to remove white foam and filter cleanly. Add the aforementioned powder. Slowly simmer in a silver or copper vessel using alternating mild and strong heat, stirring with locust or willow twigs until it becomes a paste with a purple hue. Store in a clean porcelain container and bury in the ground for one shichen (approx. 12 hours) to eliminate "fire toxicity." Remove, take a bean-sized amount each time, dissolve in warm water, and wash the eyes.

Magnetite (Cishi, 磁石) (1 liang, heated red-hot and quenched in vinegar ten times, finely ground, processed by water levigation) Prepared Aconite root (Fuzi, 附子) (1 liang, processed, skin and umbilicus removed) Morinda officinalis root (Bajitian, 巴戟天) (1 liang) Sichuan peppercorn (Chuanjiao, 川椒) (1 liang, remove seeds and opened ones, lightly stir-fry to remove moisture)
Pulverize the above four ingredients into powder. For each dose, take one pig kidney, remove fascia, cut finely; cut scallion white (Congbai, 葱白) and wild garlic bulb (Xiebai, 薤白) each at 1 fen finely. Mix with 1 qian of the powder and a pinch of salt. Wrap in ten layers of wet paper and bake in ashes until cooked. Eat on an empty stomach, chew thoroughly, swallow with wine or congee. Effectiveness should be seen within ten days.
