The Nianshou (Year and Longevity) area is located on the nasal bridge, serving as the gateway for Qi. If a reddish glow invades from the outside, it indicates that the Lung has been injured, causing Qi to stagnate and Blood to coagulate, leading to symptoms of pus and blood. (From *Jicheng*)
The Shangen (Root of the Mountain) area is the meridian pathway of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel. If infants consume excessive milk or food, causing Stomach Qi to become depressed, blue-black lines will cross horizontally at the Shangen, indicating impending disaster. (From *Jicheng*)
The nostrils are the orifices of the Lung. Dryness indicates Heat; clear rhinorrhea indicates Cold; turbid rhinorrhea indicates Heat. The Nose Tip (Bizhun) belongs to the Spleen. Redness and dryness of the nose tip indicate Spleen Heat; a ghastly yellow color indicates Spleen failure. (Xia Yuzhu)
A bluish nose color indicates vomiting of milk and abdominal pain. If accompanied by cold limbs, it indicates death. (From *Jicheng*)
A slightly black nose color indicates Phlegm-Fluids and Water-Qi, and also excessive sexual activity. A bright red color indicates retained Fluids; a purplish-dark color indicates seasonal diseases. A yellow nose color indicates Phlegm-Fluids with Damp-Heat and Cold in the Chest. A white nose color indicates Qi Deficiency and blood loss. (From *Jicheng*)
A dry, black nose color resembling soot indicates extreme Heat from Yang-Toxin. If the nostrils are black and moist with cold air exuding, it indicates extreme Cold from Yin-Toxin. Sweating profusely on the nose indicates Heart and Stomach disease. (Zhou Yufan)
Flaring of the nostrils, along with excessive inhalation and insufficient exhalation (or abnormal breathing patterns), indicates an untreatable condition. (From *Daquan*)
In a person without illness, the sudden appearance of black color around the ears, eyes, mouth, and nose indicates a凶 (ominous/fatal) outcome. (Zhou Yufan)
Sneezing is caused by Wind pathogen invasion. The urge to sneeze but inability to do so indicates Cold. (Zhou Yufan)
Heavy snoring and difficulty speaking indicate Fengwen (Wind-Warmth); nasal resonance and dryness indicate Shangfeng (Wind-Cold). (Zhou Yufan)
A red nose color indicates Lung Heat and Wind-Heat. If mild redness appears out of season, it indicates death. (From *Jinkui Yaolue*)
A blue nose color indicates Pain; black indicates Consumption/Labor injury; red indicates Wind; yellow indicates difficult defecation. (From *Jinkui Yaolue*)
If a patient's nose tip and Shangen appear bright while the eyes are yellow, the illness is about to heal. (Zhou Yufan)
*Ling Shu* states: "Mingtang" refers to the nose. Those with a large Mingtang live long; those with a small Mingtang are prone to danger. However, if the Mingtang is small but proportional to the face, longevity is also indicated. (From *Jingluo Quan shu*)
Nasal pain is caused by Wind-Fire. A yellow-black and shiny nose color indicates pain in the lower abdomen and hypochondrium, and accumulated Blood stasis. A blue-yellow nose tip indicates Lin syndrome (dysuria). (Zhou Yufan)
Nasal flaring must be differentiated into deficiency/excess and acute/chronic categories; it cannot be universally diagnosed as Lung Qi exhaustion. Nasal flaring appearing at the onset of illness is often due to obstruction of Lung Qi by Wind-Heat and Fire pathogens. Nasal flaring accompanied by wheezing and sweating in chronic illness indicates Lung Qi exhaustion. (Lin Shen'an)
Note: This volume focuses on syndrome differentiation and is divided into fifteen chapters. The content in each chapter consists mainly of previously memorized texts, copied sequentially without classification. Some original phrasing may be inappropriate; minor edits were made for clarity. Due to urgent requests from the printers, there was no time for extensive research, so this collection is limited. Readers are asked to understand. (Tili Zi)
