Zhou Yufan stated: The function of the rocking method is to promote the flow of meridians and Qi-blood. He further stated: For cold syndromes, rock inwardly; for heat syndromes, rock outwardly. This technique should be performed with gentle rocking to unblock the meridians (meridians) and harmonize Qi-blood (Qi and blood). It is a variation derived from the rubbing method (rubbing).
1. Rocking the head: Support the child's head with both hands, and gently rock it slightly above the front of the ears. This is called "Red Phoenix Shaking Head" (Chifeng Yaotou). (From *Anmo Jing*) Diagram attached in Volume 3.
2. Rocking the Douzhou elbow: (Acpoint annotation see above.) Use the left hand to support and move the child's Douzhou area, while the right hand holds the child's hand to rock it. This can treat Pi masses (abdominal masses). (From *Anmo Jing*)
3. Rocking the left and right hands: The practitioner uses one hand to press the Laogong acupoint (Laogong, PC8) and the other hand to press the Heart Meridian (Heart Meridian), rocking each separately. This is called "Golden Phoenix Wagging Tail" (Danfeng Yaowei). It treats convulsive disorders (Jingfeng). (From *Anmo Jing*) Diagram attached in Volume 3.
4. Pressing and rocking Weiling and Jingning acupoints: Press the Weiling and Jingning acupoints and perform a rocking motion. This is called "Phoenix Turning Wings" (Fenghuang Zhuanchi). It treats yellow edema (Huangzhong). (From *Anmo Jing*) Diagram attached in Volume 3.
5. Gently and slowly rocking the child's hand: Rock the left hand for males and the right hand for females. This can resolve phlegm (Tan). (From *Anmo Jing*)
Note: The following six methods are all variations derived from massage. Although their names differ, their underlying principles are the same. The various acupoints treated in different chapters suggest treating one disease with one method, which may be incomplete. Zhou's writings were later kept as secret family transmissions, unaware that these are methods passed down from ancients, recorded in texts, used to treat various conditions by combining several methods or multiple acupoints. Therefore, treatment methods should be diverse, not limited to a single method for a single condition. Daily treatments may occur two or three times; for mild conditions, recovery may occur after three to five sessions. For severe conditions, ten or dozens of sessions may be required. The weight of the technique and the number of treatments must be appropriate, ensuring efficacy. Other attached methods serve to supplement the limitations of standard massage. (Ti Li Zi)
Zhou Yufan stated: In cases where children suffer from alternating cold and heat, clear nasal discharge, coma, or any acute or chronic convulsive disorders (Jingfeng), decoction of scallion (Congbai, Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) and ginger (Shengjiang, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) should be prepared. Using the left hand to support the back of the patient's head, use the fleshy surface of the right thumb to dip into the decoction and rub/wash both nostrils thirty-six times. This is called "Washing Well and Stove" (Xi Jingzao) to unblock the Qi of the Zang-Fu organs (Zang-Fu organs). Subsequently, use both thumbs dipped in the decoction to rub the sides of the nose twenty-four times. Then, dip again and push from the Lishangen point on the nose bridge up to the Yintang and Fontanelle points thirty-six times. Next, use the index, middle, ring, and little fingers of both hands to pull the patient's ears forward, covering the Ear Gates (Ermen), and use both thumbs to push apart from the Tianting point on both sides of the forehead thirty-six times each. Then, press the Taiyang acupoints (Taiyang, EX-HN5) and Yintang acupoint (Yintang, EX-HN3) twenty-four times. After pressing, knead with the full finger pads for twenty-four times. Finally, press both Taiyang acupoints with the thumbs and both Fengchi acupoints (Fengchi, GB20) behind the head with the middle fingers, applying force together to rock thirty-six times, inducing crying and sweating in the child. Even if no sweat appears immediately, it will follow naturally. Alternatively, apply the scallion-ginger decoction to push Feishu (Feishu, BL13), Yiwofeng, Neilaogong, and Erren Shangma areas, all of which are sweating methods. In summary, the face connects to the Zang-Fu organs; regardless of the condition, sweating methods are most effective. After rubbing with the decoction, wipe the head and face dry with the palm to prevent moisture from attracting wind pathogens. Even for spontaneous sweating, this method induces proper sweating (Zhenghan); after sweating, push the Spleen Earth (Pitu) acupoint to consolidate. This method is most suitable for external contraction of wind-cold (Wind-Cold); for internal injury, it requires careful consideration.
Note: The origin of Zhou's sweating method cannot be traced. Was it Zhou's original creation, or did it come from an unusual transmission? I have used it to treat various external pathogenic factors with extraordinary efficacy. (Ti Li Zi)
