Chen Feixia stated: For infants and young children, regardless of whether the condition is caused by wind-cold or food stagnation, when measles or smallpox are about to erupt and fever occurs, it is advisable to take a handful of scallions, crush them to extract the juice, add a small amount of sesame oil (Sesamum indicum Oleum), and mix evenly. Dip fingers in the scallion oil and massage the palms of both hands, soles of both feet, as well as the anterior chest, head, face, neck, and back. Perform twenty-four strokes for each area. Subsequently, wrap the child warmly with thick clothing and cover the head to induce slight sweating; profuse sweating must be avoided. This method of inducing sweat is highly effective in unblocking the couli (skin pores and interstitial spaces) and promoting the flow through the meridians, allowing pathogenic factors to exit outward without lingering in the Ying (Nutrient) and Wei (Defensive) levels, while not damaging the Zheng Qi (Upright Qi). It can serve as an adjunct to Zhou Yufan's use of diaphoretic methods.
Chen Feixia stated: When an infant or young child has had a fever for two or three days, the pathogen has entered the interior. Symptoms include heat sensation in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest), restlessness in sitting or lying down, thirst with frequent crying, chest fullness with rapid breathing, red face, and cracked lips. Constipation and difficulty in urination indicate internal heat. Take one egg, separate the white from the yolk, add sesame oil (Sesamum indicum Oleum) equal in volume to the egg white, and add one qian of realgar powder (Realgar, Xionghuang). Mix evenly and warm slightly. Take a tuft of women's loose hair, dip it in the egg white, and pat the child's chest until reaching the umbilical region. Continue patting for half a shichen (one hour). Then, apply the used hair to the chest and secure it with a cloth. Remove after the time it takes for one incense stick to burn. The egg white nourishes Yin and reduces fever; sesame oil and realgar draw out toxins and cool the skin. For those with fever, this will reduce it. Even if there is no fever but the child cries anxiously and restlessly with disturbed spirit and mind, omit the egg white and use only sesame oil, realgar, and loose hair for patting and application to the chest. The child will immediately lie down peacefully. This method is used to rescue critical conditions, and its merits are too numerous to enumerate.
Chen Feixia stated: In cases of excess-heat syndrome in infants and young children, where toxin from measles/rash is abundant, presenting with a red face, thirst, heat and irritability in the five centers, incessant crying, body heat like fire, panting with flaring nostrils, waving hands and kicking legs, when medication cannot be administered promptly, use one liang of lead powder (Cerussa, Qianfen). Mix evenly with egg white and apply to the chest and palms of both hands. Additionally, take more than ten pieces of yeast cake (Qu, Xiaoqu) used for brewing wine, grind them into a paste, mix with hot wine to form two cakes, and apply to the soles of both feet. Secure with cloth. After a short while, the heat will dissipate to the four limbs, and the chest will feel cool. This is similar to the preceding method of clearing interior heat.
