Infantile convulsive crying with a low and dull voice indicates severe disease, which is difficult for physicians to treat effectively. A floating and light voice indicates mild disease, which can be easily cured through regulation and treatment. Dry scalp, tense meridians and vessels, redness on the outer lips and whiteness on the inner lips, sores without moisture, accompanied by fright and difficult recovery, indicate extreme heat. Red eyes indicate liver heat accumulation; aversion to light indicates heart and liver fright. Gangrenous gingivitis (Ya Gan) results from milk food toxicity and indigestion, indicating spleen cold accumulation. Deafness indicates kidney deficiency. Congenital tinea (Tai Xuan) indicates lung wind accumulation; tidal fever arises from fright. Crying or singing intermittently indicates pathogenic factors invading the spleen. Mouth ulcers and abdominal distension, with qi rebellion, vomiting of worms due to malnutrition (Gan Ji), indicate stomach and large intestine heat accumulation. Malaria indicates spleen injury. Sleeping with an open mouth indicates excessive toxicity in the five zang organs. Excessive crying indicates fright-wind invading the lungs. Craving earth indicates intestinal parasites in the spleen. Night sweats indicate blood deficiency with heat. Heat in the five centers (wuxin) indicates consumption disease (Gan Lao). Ear heat indicates pathogenic heat in the kidney meridian. Abdominal distension and nausea indicate spleen and stomach stagnation. Craving charcoal indicates liver parasites. Drinking tea indicates heart involvement. Eating uncooked rice indicates spleen involvement. Reasoning based on principles and judging by intuition constitutes medical wisdom and integration.
Pediatric miscellaneous diseases must be known well, regardless of whether the child is male or female.
Excessive sleep is due to liver issues as the root; heart heat accumulation causes night-time fright and crying.
Crying out with cold sweat is due to worm pain; alternating chills and fever indicate spleen accumulation.
Red face and mouth ulcers indicate heart and lung congestion; deficient wind causes spasms and drooping limbs.
Cold and slippery conditions injure the spleen or cause dysentery; stool like pus and blood flows incessantly.
Excessive accumulation leads to a large abdomen with gurgling water sounds; wheezing and yellowed cheeks indicate poor prognosis without treatment.
Heavy eyelids, salivation, and urgent head shaking warn against slow and faint pulses.
Laughing excessively is foolish; asking ghosts instead of seeking good medicine or skilled teachers is misguided.
Acute fright-wind (Ji Jing Feng) presents with eyes preferring to be open; chronic spleen-wind (Man Pi Feng) presents with eyes preferring to be closed. Crying without sound indicates irritability; making sound without crying indicates dryness. Opening the mouth and protruding the tongue indicates wind; closing eyes as if sleeping and refusing milk/food indicates deficiency. Abdominal pain and fullness indicate qi stagnation; turning over and lying prone indicates spleen disease. Waving hands alternately and crying upon hearing sounds indicates excess. Clear nasal discharge indicates lung cold invasion; shaking head and stiff neck indicate triple burner heat. Fixed staring eyes like fish predict death at night; blue face and black lips predict death during the day.
